you must have data. think about it if you already had wifi you would not need to tether! the iphone creates a wifi hotspot with the tethering app off of the data plan. then your laptop will connect to the iphone and access the internet.

I know, I was talking about my wifi ONLY ipad... Which doesn't have a data plan like the 3G model. I guess I can't get tethering to work on either of my iDevices correct?

But my other question, everyone here with an iPhone using t-mobile, do you guys just add the $20 data plan on your accounts and it should automatically work with your iPhone?

So I'm not 100% sure if this bug is related to TetherMe or not but I haven't installed anything else recently on my phone...

After installing TetherMe, even when I don't have tethering enabled, my SBSettings shows an incorrect IP address for the WiFi network I'm connected to. If I go into the stock Settings app and then the Wifi screen and look at the connection details, it shows the proper IP address, but SBSettings shows something starting with 172.10.xx.xx which isn't the proper address.

Anyone else having this happening?

My SBSettings IP address matches my Settings IP address.

I just uninstalled TetherMe, and rebooted my phone. Also respringed it. The tethering options are still showing up in my settings as if TetherMe was still installed...

Makes me think that this program is making some system file changes rather than just running everything dynamically through MobileSubstrate...

it will show until you plug your phone in and tether. At that point it goes away

For whatever reason, SSH hasn't been working on my phone for awhile and I have been too lazy to mess with it. Spent a couple bucks and bought this. Worked beautifully connecting BT to my MBP.

got it to work via bluetooth, but not sure yet how to do it over usb?

it says choose iphone from list of network settings, is that under the airport tab? when i go to network in preferences only bluetooth and airport are green, the other things are ethernet and firewire and they are red... what am I doing wrong? BT is working fine but I'd like to try usb as well, thanks

If I try and turn off BT via SBSettings the phone crashes. No biggie, just need to keep it on.

I re-tested TetherMe and determined I cannot get USB to work on OSX 10.6.3 or Windows7 Ultimate. Before, I must have inadvertently connected via BT.

Neither operating system even recognizes something is plugged into the USB port.

For those that got USB working, what operating system and what settings?

EDIT: I also determined you can only have one device connected at a time, which obviously makes sense, but it's another difference from MyWi.

I got it running via USB on windows 7 but I have to open iTunes and let it recognize the phone before it will work.

Thank you! I got it working on Windows7 and the same solution works for OSX.

Since you don't have to keep iTunes running or the iTunesHelper service, I wonder what gets loaded that allows for USB tethering.

Cirdan says all of the CommCenter changes are made through code injection, i.e., MobileSubstrate.

well I have had mywi and loved it up til this last update. I did have the cracked version initially but started having issues and then felt guilty so I bought the update. it is junk! hasnt worked worth a dam to be honest. so I bought tetherme this morning and it works like a charm! I installed it and then went into settings and turned on tethering and it worked! but the funny thing is I still get the blue bar that says tethering and it also says mywi but it is not on!

i bought this and it is awesome! basically tetherme enable the iphone tethering on iphone.

Well, since I JB'd the iPad earlier in the week anyway to get Categories, I went ahead and put TetherMe and the SBSetting tethering toggle on the phone and iTether on the iPad. Together, the two seem to work perfectly.

I'll still be watching for that $2 wifi option MuscleNerd mentioned, as it would be useful to be able to tether more than one device at once, but this will do for a trip I'm taking this week, and the BT tethering is more secure than wifi with WEP.

Edit: well, I was wrong, these two don't want to play well together at all. Went back to tether them, and they wouldn't connect. Told them to "forget" each other, as you would to re-pair any other BT devices, and now they don't seem to even see it other at all--re-pairing is impossible. Not sure if the problem is on the TetherMe end or the iTether end, but either way, I'm unimpressed.

Reinstalled, respring, rebooted, etc. Other ideas?

Edit2: pretty sure it's an iTether issue on the iPad. See the iTether thread in the iPad hacks section for details.

so the inevitable question... is att going to catch on to this? can they tell?

Will they catch up on this? .... Doubt it.

Can they tell? Yes they can, your traffic is logged automatically, if they look at the logs they can tell you are tethering a computer and it is not normal phone traffic. Will they ever do it? ...doubt it.

Installed tetherme today.

Works just fine via USB on this Macbook Air. USB is required for our needs as the office disabled bluetooth on their work-issued laptops.
