You don't have BT turned on when you start iTether, do you? If so, you shouldn't.

I have both of these installed and they worked first time.

No--I think the problem was somewhere between iTether and the SBSettings Tethering toggle. TetherMe doesn't seem to be at fault. I can get the iPad/iPhone combo to work if I do the following:

iPad: Turn off wifi and BT
iPhone: Turn on Internet tethering from the Settings screen and leave the phone on that screen until the devices pair. If I use the toggle instead, the phone and iPad won't connect.

Only then on the iPad, can I open iTether and turn it on. From that point, it pairs fine.

When I want to stop tethering, I have to turn off iTether FIRST, otherwise it gives me the whole daemon lost connection issue. I can't make it work with the SBSettings tethering toggle from the iPhone at all.

That's minor, since I'm only going to be tethering once in a blue moon, but it would be a little more annoying if I were doing this all the time.

I'm using the Tethering toggle and it works fine. Here's the sequence I usually follow: (Bluetooth is off on both devices before I start.)
  1. Turn on Tethering toggle on iPhone
  2. Turn on Bluetooth toggle on iPhone
  3. Open iTether on iPad, turn it on and select my iPhone from the list

Every time I install the toggle my iphone goes into safe mode.

You installed the wrong toggle. Look for the "SBSetting Tethering Toggle" (by Filipe Pina). NOT the "SBSettings Tether Toggle" (by Ryan Petrich). The latter causes the Safe Mode issue.

Confusing, I know.

Well it would help to install the right one. Thanks.

Thanks! I would've sworn this was exactly what I'd done before, but it certainly worked this time. I'll be interested to see how it behaves over the next week as I'll be traveling with these two and without my MBP. Fingers crossed it all stays relatively trouble free.

TetherMe crashes Settings

A few hours later I can no longer run Settings on the iPhone 3G running 4.0. It starts to load, then after about 5 seconds it just closes.

I started to delete a lot of stuff (mostly themes) and rebooting the iPhone as well. It wasn't until I deleted TetherMe that the Settings would load completely.

Anyone else notice this and/or have a solution?

I had this problem myself. Settings would crash as well as my SMS and MMS, and unlimtones wouldnt work. When sending SMS it would just crash, and inlimitones wont DL.

I removed safari DL manager 1.5-1( the newest version), mobileterminal 4.0, tetherme, safari dl plugin (didn't work) and dtunes. SMS/MMS works after a respring.

I forgot to test unlimtones at this point.

So i reinstalled safari DL manager and mobileterminal4, and tetherme.

same crashes of settings sms/mms

removed tetherme respring and settings, SMS works but no MMS and unlimitones doesnt work correctly. tried rebooting twice and reseting network settings and still not working.

So im going to try again to get things to work and will edit this when i get progress

EDIT
I realized it was a problem with my SMS folder contents. when i saved my data manually from my 3.1.2 OS i just copied the SMS folder contents. Then deleted the contents in the new 4.01 SMS folder and put in the new ones.

I later copied the old SMS folder and replaced the new SMS folder and things worked.

I tested MMS each time after installing safari dl manager, and dtunes (still doesn't work)and it works, its possible that i didn't have enouhg patience to wait for the MMS to send earlier.

MMS still takes longer to send and gets stuck at 95% for abit but sends about a minute later.

couldn't get tether me to work so I removed it, and went with mywi4.0 and "fixed" it using this link
http://gizmodo.com/comment/27107004

I also used the native thether fix by patching comcenter here https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/984943/

folowed the first post and went with the replace option. Only minor issue I had was having to do the reboot/reset network settings step twice.

I can use mywi 4.0 and or the native tethering now. I did buy tetherme for $2 but the last few updates they gave, i think 1.3-1 just caused problems so I gave up on them.

Also unlimtones now works again after the upgrade they put out today

tehterme issue iphone 4 reboot itself

iphone 4 4.0.1 reboot by itself when im using tetherme, thats sucks:confused: after 5 min or less... is there anyone with this issue please i need HELP

Mine seems to reboot randomly when using the TetherMe package as well.

I'll still be watching for that $2 wifi option MuscleNerd mentioned, as it would be useful to be able to tether more than one device at once, but this will do for a trip I'm taking this week, and the BT tethering is more secure than wifi with WEP.

So; has anyone any news of this other app that will probably take the place of MyWi?
I surely hope this app gets released soon, and has an easy way to make the iPhone a hotspot for WiFi-devices! I think $20 for MyWi is expensive (and you get the "clutter" of Rock-app, which I don´t want at all!), but I´ll gladly pay $5 for a hasslefree app from "friends-of-the-dev-team-hotspot-tether"-app! :)

I don´t need to use this app very often, that´s why I don´t want to pay $20...

Works great for me...loaded it on my IP4(TetherMe)/IP3gs and iPad(iTether)

Anyone try TetherMe (new in Cydia) yet? Any issues?

I just downloaded TetherMe and it is working like a champ with my MBP via USB and Bluetooth. :D I Just hope AT&T doesnt catch onto this little gem.

I did not feel like the hassel of mywi/rock and I do not use tethering enough to spend $20 on the app.

I did the same--if you don't need the wireless capability, this pairing is a pretty good solution for less than half the price of MyWi. More secure than a wifi option as well.

If you have to have wifi broadcasting, so far there's been nothing released in the way of the rumored $2 app or a no-Rock version of MyWi.

Tetherme issues

I updated to Tetherme 1.3 -7 yesterday, and since then I cant tether... I dont even get the option to turn on tether anymore. it says "set up internet tethering".

I'm on an IP4 and I restarted multiple times to no avail. I even tried re-installing. I know 1.3 -4 worked for me, but not the latest update.

Does anyone else have these issues?

You've tried through USB and BT? I'm isn't 1.3.7 and it works awesome.

TetherMe tip for people with issues

Issue:
I bought TetherME and installed it. I noticed that the tethering options were now available, and turn-on-able, but I can't get the blue indicator to show that my connection is shareable. When I USB connect to my MacBookPro, SystemPrefs>Network>shows "iPhone USB", which turns into "iPhone USB USB" (yes, it says USB twice), and it is "Not Connected".

Setup:
iPhone 4, 4.0.1 (Jailbreakme.com), Cydia
MacBookPro 17", 10.6.4, iTunes 10.0.
I have NOT installed PDAnet, BiteSMS, MyWi, iTether, SBS Settings Tether toggle(s).
I have NOT done anything with CommCenter
I tried UAFaker, but uninstalled it weeks ago.

Solution:
Tethering will ONLY connect when I start iTunes on the Mac. It makes no sense to me, but it works. Once it's started, I can shut off iTunes, and tethering will stay on. This is only for USB. I have never used Bluetooth.

If you´re going to use via bluetooth, you might have to pair your device again first...

1.3-4 works

I tried 1.3-7, didn't work. Uninstalled it and installed 1.3-4, and worked like a charm ;). I have iPhone 3G on iOS 4.1 jailbroken using redsn0w 0.9.6b1.

Oh. forgot to mention that this post is created via native tethering from my iPhone 3G =)

I can get it to work with my iPad with oproblems, i have never gotten it to work with my MBP.

1. I have paired device
2. I plug in iPhone via USB and select the iphone network
3. It connects for a few seconds and then it just disconnects
4. I even tried running iTunes, like an earlier post in the this thread had mentioned.

Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong.
