what you should do is buy enough for everyone in the family to have one, that way no one feels left out or is burdened with "hand me downs" give the 1st gen to the hired help i.e. maid, gardener, or pool-boy
oh and buy them all at the same time and open them simultaneous, no one is any more special than the other

Why not kill her dog while you're at it? Do the right thing and go out and get her the $829 The new iPad she deserves.

Great news! The Easter bunny came this morning and got my 8 year old daughter the $829 the The New iPad! This evens the score for her since I got her 11 year old brother the $829 iPad last week after he refused the slow/heavy/blurry iPad 1 I tried to give him.

In the middle of all of this I forgot my 13 year old son, so the Easter Bunny had to get him a new $2000 iMac because the $1200 one he got for Christmas didn't have the 27" screen.

Where do I sign up to be your child? Lol. Blessed kids! I hope they enjoy!

:D Glad you liked it.

Maybe someone who speaks German could translate it for us!

The link doesn't seem to work for me, it keeps coming back as "YouTube not available". Is it the one where they're in the kitchen and he uses it as a chopping board? If so, she asks if he likes the iPad they gave him for his birthday and he answers that he does. At least that's the jist of it, I don't remember enough to do a direct translation.

Nevermind, just saw someone else beat me to it.

I am the slightly older son you didn't know about until now and my birthday is in two months time ... small iMac 21" is fine, nothing over the top. Thank you.

re topic: My iPad1 is fine again with iOS 5.1 and I have basically decided to keep it for another year. It doesn't really bother me that Safari takes three or four seconds to load or refresh a page.
But the new screen is surely tempting...

I skipped iPad2, but sold my original 16GB wifi on CL for $250 and bought the newest one. I thought I'd regret it, but wow, I don't at all. I'm really happy with the new one. Screen is gorgeous, faster, and no more crashing apps (for now). :D

I am beyond happy with my upgrade! I went from the first iPad to the third, and oh wow. It's like going from oatmeal to pancakes! (I hate oatmeal)

I'm glad to see other people are enjoying theirs as well. I was starting to think I was the only one!
I had sent my mother the iPad I had before I got this one, and I kind of wish I had hung onto it so I could compare the two directly. But the screen is just so..so stunning I don't think it even matters.

The worst thing about the iPad 1 was the limited memory RAM, I got tired of reloading tabs, unresponsible keyboard when typing fast, many apps got stuck suddenly, so at the end I stopped using it, the only task iPad 1 can do well is as a reading device and music player when on bed. I'm very happy with iPad 3.

i was tempted by v. 1 as the v. 2
but the 1, when i was considering to get it, was clearly a 'beta 0.2' version, something not at level of current (3 years ago?) technology, where for example android tablets where giving out amazing hardware (and ****** software)
i made my consideration that apple played too much on the NO-RIVALITY so the buyers must take it in the A..., but hey its wow, amazing

the v2. was good, much better, but yet, not something complete, worth it
the 3, i had to get it (for my wife, but i have got my share of usage eh eh)

that is why apple succeeds, because they can make magic something that is not magic yet (version 1)
that was totally to avoid, something NOT worth the money

i strongly believe, that Apple could have released with their knowledge an Ipad 2.1 immediately (instead of the v1) but that is business and you cannot throw billions like that.

The 1st gen iPad is still a great piece of tech, but its definitely dated. I skipped the 2 and went straight for the 3, and I am loving this thing. I love how thin and light it is, the screen is incredible and the speed is awesome. Not fond of the speaker layout though on the new iPads. Still, a minor flaw in an otherwise perfect tablet.

Now I have to convince someone to buy my iPad1, lol.

My iPad 1 sits on top of my refrigerator (and occasionally in the bathroom), where it does a perfectly good job of streaming video and letting me know about emails coming in from work when I'm making breakfast.

But of course I also have an iPad 3 and before that, an iPad 2. I'd have kept the 2 and sold the 1, but I could get a lot more money for the 2.

My wife has the iPad 1 and when I showed her the iPad 3 she really wasn't impressed. She wanted it for the camera but when she took a picture in low light it came out crappy without a flash. Most non-techie people could care less about the resolution or speed difference. If people are willing to take pictures with a horrible camera in the iPad 2 how many of those people will appreciate, and I mean truly appreciate what the retina display provides?
I feel you OP. Between the iPad 1 and iPad 3 there is no contest but that's because I'm a gadget geek. But I just don't think Apple will beat their iPad 2 numbers. I believe Apple should have done a little more in the cpu department to make the iPad 3 a major hit over the iPad 2. When 2 products look the same and perform the same why should people spend more money for a resolution bump?
I bet that if you take 100 non-techie people between 12 and 80 over half would not be able to tell you the difference between a iPad 2 and a iPad 3. Don't get me wrong; iPad 3 is the best tablet today. Apple could have done a little more to make me forget about iPad 2. Remember the feeling you got when you compared a iPhone 3GS to a iPhone 4? That feeling was not there after iPad 3 was announced. I felt the same with the iPhone 4S.

Agree. But the The New iPad wasn't made for iPad 2 owners; it was made for iPad 1 owners. That's why it's so amazing.

No one but a handful of Apple geeks are buying two $600 tablets in a 12 month period. "New every two" just like the mobile phone companies drew it up.
