To a lot of people it is. It runs smoothly and does almost everything everyone expects it to do. 16gb is a joke and Apple will probably continue offering it as entry level storage as long as it can.

4GB of storage and an A5 chip would probably run smoothly for a lot of people so why doesn't Apple do that and charge its current prices then?

Now this all makes sense why you think the 16GB iPhone is ripoff.

My question is: If you don't even own an iPhone or care about buying one why are you so engaged in this discussion? Its not like I go on Samsung message boards and say the S6 is a ripoff.

I don't think the 16GB iPhone is a rip-off. I'm very neoliberal. If there is enough demand, it can't possibly be a rip-off.

I've entered this discussion because people's belief that the price of a phone is a reflection of its quality is nonsense.

That is not the point. The basic fact is that Apple is making the decision to have 16GB as their base model for reasons other than bettering the customer experience, and for an expensive phone that is utterly ridiculous.

You defending Apple for no apparent reason is also not going to do anything.

so everything so be based on 'bettering the customer experience"?

Do you live in fantasy land or what!

If that was true Apple would be selling the iPhone6s for $299 with 128GB.

Apple is running a for profit company. Expecting them to sacrifice profits for no reason at all is utterly ridiculous.

And what's your point then? You whining about iPhone prices for no reason is also not going to do anything. At least I was trying to offer healthy suggestions, that there are options out there. iPhone is not the only smartphone.

I still don't understand why you waste your time in a thread about the iPhone not being a ripoff if you were never interested in the iPhone

A5 can't run touchID and ApplePay. And who knows what other services/software Apple will release in the next 2 years.

Apple is well-meeting the customer experience expectations for people who don't need more than 16GB and would find it a rip-off to pay more for something they don't want or need.

Corporate buys a lot of 16GB phones. Don't need 32GB to run the company app.

Good point.

Corporate would rather buy 16GB than 32GB even if they were the same price. Why? Because corporations don't want their workers to load up their phones with personal apps, picture, videos, ect.

I am interested in technology and that includes phones. I just happen to think the Edge+ is the best phone on the market at the moment so I bought one?

The basis of your augment is about Apple not having money to do Research and Development to better customer experience so maybe read your own arguments before contradicting them.

Apple should be aiming to provide its base level (hardly base anyway given the price, but anyway) with an experience that is on par with other expensive smart phones, and 16GB storage is not on par with other expensive smart phones.

Given Apple bangs on and on about caring for the experience and making the iPhone the best smart phone you can buy, then yes they should make small sacrifices in profits to ensure this. Making the best customer experience is what is MEANT to separate Apple from other companies.

Who buys 16GB iPhones?

1. Corporations - they don't want their employees to load up unnecessary apps, photos, videos on company phones.
2. Teenagers/Kids - they use their phones mostly for texting and pictures. They take very little video. They don't buy music or movies. They stream everything.

3. Slim users - they don't buy music, videos, ect. They like to keep their phone clutter free. They don't take many pictures and if they do they just save it on the cloud. I consider myself a slim user. I use my phone ALOT. But mostly for streaming movies, tv shows, music, web browsing. I don't buy music. I have photos but I only keep the good ones. There really is no reason to have 10,000 photos on your phone. That's what the cloud and home servers are for.

That's barely a consideration at all when it comes to that. It's simply what's the cheapest option.

1 GB of RAM still works more than fine for most. Why did Apple bump it up?

they want to run two apps on the screen at once.

only the devices with 2GB of ram will run two apps on the screen at once (iPadAir2, 6s)

Awesome. Let me know when you have become the CEO of Apple, and don't forget free iPhones for all. #oprah

So many incorrect assumptions.

I have ordered the 16gb 6S having had the 16gb 5S, and, for me personally, it is plenty. If I happen to fill the memory up (which has never ever happened in the past) then I will just upload everything to my MacBook and then onto my external hard drive. I will hardly ever be using 4K videos or live photos (I just don't really take pictures that much) so this is a non-issue for me. At the end of the day I think that everyone has different needs and requirements from their phone, we all use them in different ways.

Which is fine. I still don't understand why you would get into a debate to say 16GB iPhone is a ripoff. I mean you are free to do so, but seems like a waste of time IMO.

1. This isn't much of a consideration by corporations, especially when we look at your next point, as employees can just stream everything.

2. Some great generalisations and assumptions here. A lot of kids are not buying a premium smartphones anyway.

3. and 32 GB of storage will suddenly make it harder for you to be a slim user??

They could make it work with TouchID and Applepay if they wanted. Besides why would they offer either?? Plenty of iPhone users will never use either if we're working from your argument.

No. They can't do touchID without at least an A7. They need the secure element that the A7 and later chips provide.

And like I said who knows what other software/services Apple will provide in the next 2-3 years. They don't want to release a phone with an A5 this year that won't be able to run those stuff. The entire iPhone line up is now 64bit with touchID. Heck, even the $199 iPod touch has the A8 now.

People would still buy tons of phones even if that option wasn't available on them. So not much of an argument from the profitability side of it.

But that's not Apple vision for the future.

They want the majority of their install base on the same level.
That's why the entire iPhone lineup is now 64bit.
