What I expect is for them to keep up with the industry. 32GB base is standard now, and it ought to be with the iPhone by now. I honestly believe if Steve was still at helm, we'd have 64GB base by now.

With cars, the base model is rarely inadequate. They're not giving you a 600 hp monster with a 2 gallon gas tank.

Stop digging Steve Jobs out of his grave. Let him rest in peace.

Yes Steve Jobs would also not make a large iPhone, nor the Apple Pencil. Give it a rest.

And who cares what the industry standard is. Apple makes it owns standards.

Most phones still start with 16GB like the One Plus Two and the MotoX. The reason the Samsung starts at 32GB is because they are desperate for sales and their TouchWiz takes up so much space a 16GB phone would be impossible.

I made a tl;dr version for the OP:

"I am an apple apologist trying to come up with a convoluted justification for Mr. BeanCounterTimCook's decision to sell 16GB iPhone in 2015"
It's more "let's have some fun in this forum along the lines of what happens with inconsequential political discussions".

I think he's in drivers ed, and is likely just starting to learn about cars as he looks to buy one (or his parents), and wants to use car analogies for everything.

Lets change it then.

Luxury bags. Do expect a Louis Vutton bag to be the same price as a Coach bag? Hell no.

When something is the best (iPhone) it costs more.

They used to. They had 8GB standard when everyone else still had 4. They had 16GB standard and 32GB available when everyone was still maxing out at 16. They've fallen behind.

More like iOS is so much more efficent they don't need gobs of space like Android.

I clearly made it a point to say that's not what I was pointing out here, and yet you clearly tried to focus just on that very thing that I want out of my way not to say. Gives away a clear tactic there when there's no argument to be made.
Dude, you're the one that started shifting topic. But whatever. What's your counter argument anyway?
Fact is, Apple is selling a 16GB configuration of the iPhone 6S, along with 64GB and 128GB.
Why 16GB? Only Apple knows specifically, but maybe their numbers showed that's what the market would bear.
That's it.

If the market doesn't like it, sales will tank, and next year we will see Apple react differently. Free market is great.

At least he's not the one who has to resort to using two separate accounts to make himself sound better (does anyone really think Warrior2000 and pika2000 are two different people?)

go ahead and ask the mods to see if I'm the same as pika2000. I'm not.

Speaking of changing topics....

I can make the same accusation to you. The mod can check the IP addresses.

He worked on the iPhone 5 and 5S so yes he would have. Also he most likely would not have had an issue with the Apple Pencil - He took issue to tablets that had touch screens so bad that you needed a stylus to use it, thus the "they've blown it if you need a stylus" or whatever along those lines. The Apple pencil is a high end artist tool, not something that is required because the iPad Pro has a terrible screen. Regardless its beside the point.

Customers care about what the industry standard is, Apple should be matching the industry standard at least, given what it charges.

The Moto X 16GB is $649 in my country, and the iPhone 6 16GB is $!079, and anyway given its screen size the Moto x would be more of an iPhone Plus competitor which costs $1,229 in 16GB - Thus the Moto X is a stupid example, its a much cheaper phone. In fact, it just pulls more wholes in your argument. The 6S should have a higher starting capacity, as phones that are almost half the cost have 16GB of storage.

you sound bitter.
And we go after the person again instead of the argument. Keep up the great job of proving that there's simply no argument to be made (otherwise we'd clearly be talking about the issue itself and not posting things about people themselves).

Then you can buy the Moto X. That's the beauty of free market. You can actually choose to buy things at the prices that you want. And since you say consumers want things to be on par, then we will see sales for apple will tank, and we will see better offerings next year. That's what so great about free market and competition.

Whining about iPhone being overpriced won't really move anything, especially if you ended up buying iPhones anyway.

Heck, I did exactly what I said. After the iPhone 5, I thought iPhones are overpriced. So I switched to Android, got the Nexus 5, and OnePlus One.

LOL. Then buy the OnePlus One. This is not rocket science. Buy a phone that you think is worth its price.
Heck, I did buy the OnePlus One a year ago. Now I understand I get what I paid for.

I bought a Galaxy S6 Edge + 64GB on Friday. That costs considerably more than an iPhone 6S+. Have I got what I've paid for?

Steve Jobs flat out said he would not make a big phone
http://www.businessinsider.com/steve-jobs-was-wrong-about-big-phones-2014-9

He replied that he disliked the new crop of bigger phones from Samsung et al. "You can't get your hand around it," he said, "no one's going to buy that." He also derided big phones as "Hummers."

GB is just one spec that measures storage.

That's like saying a certain luxury car needs to fit a certain amount of people.

So a BMW M3 is not luxury because it can only fit 4 people while a Kia Optima can fit 5.

People have different GB needs. Some don't need any more than 16GB. That does not mean they don't want a premium phone.

The irony is that the iPhone is obviously not the best here. It has 16GB of storage for an expensive, 2015 smart phone which is an absolute joke.

To a lot of people it is. It runs smoothly and does almost everything everyone expects it to do. 16gb is a joke and Apple will probably continue offering it as entry level storage as long as it can.

That is not the point. The basic fact is that Apple is making the decision to have 16GB as their base model for reasons other than bettering the customer experience, and for an expensive phone that is utterly ridiculous.

You defending Apple for no apparent reason is also not going to do anything.

Now this all makes sense why you think the 16GB iPhone is ripoff.

My question is: If you don't even own an iPhone or care about buying one why are you so engaged in this discussion? Its not like I go on Samsung message boards and say the S6 is a ripoff.
