No. They can't do touchID without at least an A7. They need the secure element that the A7 and later chips provide.

And like I said who knows what other software/services Apple will provide in the next 2-3 years. They don't want to release a phone with an A5 this year that won't be able to run those stuff. The entire iPhone line up is now 64bit with touchID. Heck, even the $199 iPod touch has the A8 now.

Nup. They could add the secure enclave to the A5 if they really wanted.

You've completely missed the point I was trying to make - the same as some consumers won't ever use more than 16GB, some won't ever need more than an A5 processor. So why has Apple upgraded the processor ? They could have bettered their profit margins by continuing to use the A5 processor.

On your argument, what if few years 16GBs of storage won't run all the stuff in the future?

Just lots of assumptions that get used and arguments that get changed left and right to try to make some point, even if it goes against the previous arguments.

4GB of storage and an A5 chip would probably run smoothly for a lot of people so why doesn't Apple do that and charge its current prices then?

Same reason why they probably started incorporating 64-bit CPUs before there was any real need for them. A bit of future-proofing and laying down some framework for things to come.

Why the animosity man?

1. This isn't much of a consideration by corporations, especially when we look at your next point, as employees can just stream everything.

2. Some great generalisations and assumptions here. A lot of kids are not buying a premium smartphones anyway.

3. and 32 GB of storage will suddenly make it harder for you to be a slim user??

So why is the 16GB the most popular model then?

Obviously a ton of people are buying it. I was just thinking of some users who would fit into the 16GB model.

And lets get real. The only people who need more than 16GB are:

1. People who take a ton of photos and videos
2. People who download a ton of apps
3. People who download a ton of music or movies

Photo's and Video's are migrating to the cloud. Cloud storage is so cheap right now it is crazy not to put your collections in the cloud.

Apple is using AppSlimming to decrease the amount of space Apps take on the phone.
Music and Movies are trending toward streaming instead of owning.

By that logic they can want more people to record more 4K content or be able to purchase and download more movies from them so 32 GB would be good for that.

movies is going to streaming not downloading.

4k is a nice extra feature in the 6s. Not a main selling point at all. Even with a 32GB phone you won't be able to fit more than an hour of 4k video anyway.

4k video was never meant to permenantly stay of the phone. Hell the 6s only has 750p resolution. It is mean to record 4k video than transfer it to either the cloud or your computer at home.

BECAUSE ITS CHEAP. End of story. For some it meets their needs. For me, I'm on a 5 in 16GB despite needing more BECAUSE ITS CHEAP.

You've got to be bloody kidding. "The only people". I want to see your data for this.

Using the cloud because your phone doesn't have enough storage is an added cost, and insecurity and often an inconvenience, and a clear indication that more on device storage is needed.

Ah, so assumptions work when supporting your argument, but not when supporting other arguments. Got it. Just not how things work in reality though.

Clearly it's because it's the cheapest model. Not sure why that's even much to think about.

You're kidding. You've got to be kidding.

Do you understand the process of recoding video? Funnily enough it is sorted on the phone as it is recorded. 11 GB of storage is not going to get you much time with 4K.

Use the cloud or backup on your computer. There really isnt any reason to keep 10,000 photos and 40 GBs of video locally on a phone.
there is if you are on vacation. Luckily I tacked it onto business trip so i had my laptop and could dump my pics/video but I recently ran out of space everyday while on vacation. That was with the 32gb 5s. I can definitely see how the 16gb could be problematic and even with my laptop, it wouldnt have taken me far

So you think 4k video was meant to stay on the iPhone?

LOL.

The iPhone has 750p resolution. There is no benefit of watching a 4k video vs a 1080p video on an iPhone.

Its obvious you are meant to upload the video on another device that you know THAT ACTUALLY DISPLAYS 4K NATIVELY!

Neither will 27GB.

There are flash drives that connect to the iPhone's lightning port.

GB is just one spec that measures storage.

That's like saying a certain luxury car needs to fit a certain amount of people.

So a BMW M3 is not luxury because it can only fit 4 people while a Kia Optima can fit 5.

People have different GB needs. Some don't need any more than 16GB. That does not mean they don't want a premium phone.
Oh really? Besides bytes, what is another spec that measures storage?

And again with the car analogies...

Not any of that, just that a lot of assumptions made to support whatever argument, even if that argument itself goes against the arguments that were just made before it. No arguing with that really.

then buy the 64GB phone.

Can't beleive all this bitching about $100. If you are so hard up for $100 maybe you should buy a $200 Android phone instead.

Its like someone buying a $200k Ferrari and then grumbling that he gets terrible gas mileage. LOL.

.........

Yes because iOS has great facilities to move content onto these 'lighting flash drives' NOT.

Again, another added expense/complication/annoyance that is just there to compensate for a lack of storage.

then buy the 64GB phone. Not complicated at all.

no idea what you are saying.

NEXT.

Because your average consumer is not as well off as Apple is, thus Apple should be making the tiny compromise, for something that is an industry standard.

You're an apple apologist go the highest order. I couldn't and still can not afford a 64 GB iPhone. $150 is a lot of money that can go almost anywhere else for me.

Your car analogies make no sense.

I'm just going to leave this quote here:

'If you keep your eye on the profit, you’re going to skimp on the product. But if you focus on making really great products, then the profits will follow.'

Changing the base storage may impact Apple's profits. It may not. I don't know, I don't have access to their account and margins and user statistics to find out.

What I do know is that, in this day and age, 16GB is skimping on the product for the sake of the bottom line. That's not the ideology which got Apple where it is today. Sure, they made products which were very profitable, but by and large you could buy any product and the experience would be fantastic. Buying a 16GB iPhone now means you're going to have to consider turning off 4K recording and Live Photos, not downloading software updates over the air and avoiding new games which can have a very large file size.

That's not a fantastic experience.
