I find it absolutely hilarious how many people on this thread consider themselves part Irish. Genuinely.

I actually am part Irish, and I'm part French, Scottish, German, & Hungarian.

I just don't see the point in bragging about my bloodline, it's not like it's something I accomplished.

True. It just amuses me that the common heritage seems to be Irish. I'd be interested to see just how tenuous / non-existent some of these links are.

Maybe it's just because I'm from Boston, but I think you are under-estimating how many people in the US are Irish, due to the fact that you want to remain "special", and hate people thinking they're as "special" as you.

I mean, I'm no doctor, I just call 'em like I see 'em.

Edit: nope, not done with this...If you find people's heritage "genuinely hilarious" then you need to get some (funnier) friends! Allow me to volunteer to be the first - Hey man, I'm Ben, and I'm a quarter Irish. Let's be friends! Want to hear a joke? etc...

My Grandmother is 1/2 Irish 1/2 scottish. Does that count for tenuous or non existent? The part of the family that came here from Ireland, did so sometime around the turn of the century and their last name is Flanigan. (My grandmother's maiden name). My great grandfather (Flanigan), married a scottish girl (My great grandmother) with the last name Larabee.
