The 2009 iPhone

A slightly new design. Probably back to the metal looking casing, but this time it will be entirely one color metal, unlike the first iPhone.

This is my singular requirement for purchasing the new phone. I so hope you are correct.

I was trying to hold out for a revision but my iphone died and had to get a 3G but when a new one comes out and it's a decent revision then I'm getting it.

No, terrible for reception, I'm thinking aluminum?

Wasn't the first gen made from an aluminum? And then they changed it to plastic claiming better reception?

I'm thinking carbon fiber?

Anything but this cracking plastic shell some are experiencing.

I care about 2 things:

1) Battery

2) Software

The battery on the iPhone 3G is probably better than that of other comparable 3G phones, but it still sucks. I don't mind if the new iPhone is slightly thicker in favor of a better battery.

The software, while pretty good, feels bloated at times. It sometimes gets sluggish...switching from texting to safari etc. Make the OS more stable, Apple.

I agree 100% and have been saying this for the longest time.

If it has most or all of the features I want I believe I could live if it were a slight bit thicker and a big + on the battery in that instance.

I'm thinking a Multi-core processor, along with a 32GB bump in capacity with a new higher tech battery that lasts. A software update is obvious, likely iPhone OS 3.0. It's been rumored it will contain multi-core support. Let's see it.

I bet it will be the exact same phone but with copy and paste and a $700 price tag. People will be lining up around the block for weeks. :D

There's no way you can walk around from 9-5 with GPS, 3G, and push on. It'll die before lunch with moderate use. I'm willing to accept as much as a 50% increase in thickness in favor of better battery life :) How a bout you?

Yea I agree, but I'm the type'a guy that would just turn the feature I need on when I need it. I don't need gps constantly on in my pocket or even 3g for that matter since probably half the time I'm not in 3g coverage anyhow and I DO see what your saying about the multi-tasking breaking the battery down throughout the day and I TOO wouldn't care if it were twice as thick! I don't really care if I have the thinnest phone there is and in fact the thinner it is the less, I dunno, flimsy it feels in my hand.

I think on a minimum Apple will upgrade the storage capacity to 32GB to bring it on par with other smart phones being released into the market.

Im hoping for a quad-core 32 GB iphone so I can ifart at lighting fast speed. Each fart will utilize the latest in quad core technology loading farts in the background without a noticeable drop in processing power or performance. The front line bus will allow for enhanced graphics and incorporating quad-core technology, the iphone will sure take its place as the leading most revolutionary ifarting phone around. Truly amazing and breath-taking. If you don't feel like ifarting, you can make use of some of the other more revolutionary applications offered via the app store, such as Koi pond, Dog whistle, spell check, or fake call. Either way, the app store combined with the blazing fast speeds of a quad-core processor will ensure the iphone experience is one we will never forget. The iphone (quad core) + the app store = the best iphone experience around* Thats what I see in 2009

:D:D:D

* iphone experience based solely on users who enjoy applications that dont offer any real substance.

Well I DO believe that there will be something new this year. The 3G was not really "new" I mean if the original was a version1 then the 3G was a 1.5. I think this year will bring a proper upgrade. Definitely a design tweak. For me thats worth waiting for at this point. June seems to be realistic.

I agree. Most likely a design tweak with memory bump. I could also see more colors offered? What do you think?

I want to see a better signal reception situation. I love the phone but it does not get as good reception as many other phones that I have had on AT&T. My old MOTO was a signal magnet, it would catch a signal in far more locations than the iPhone. So I want a better cellular chip or whatever it takes. First and foremost this is a phone isn't it?

Yeah, you're right...I, too, only turn on GPS when I need it. And even if the iPhone battery had twice the capacity this wouldn't change. But I can see the advantage of having 3G on all the time, since where I live I get coverage just about everywhere. I'm afraid to turn my exchange mail push on for the sake of my battery. I doubt Apple will do this though...form over function...and if it were not for the iPhone's gorgeousness who knows if it would be as successful as it is today? I say Apple made the best decision it could. If the iPhone was twice as thick a lot of people (not us though!) would be turned off.

I think its safe to say there will be a revision of some description this summer. This year see's a lot of the original 2G iphone contracts coming to an end in both the US and UK so apple and the cell operators will be keen to get people signed up for another 18 months.
