Quick debate, the first goal (which was anulled) of the match was really a goal. The sidelines referee called "Posicion Adelantada" (don't know the English equivalent... advanced position(?)) and hence Mexico's goal was anulled. However, if we observe the video well, we can see there is still one South African defense man after the Mexican player making the goal valid...

Comments? Was it a goal or not?

No debate. Not a goal.

SA just hit the post. This has turned out to be an entertaining little match.

Cheers to South Africa.... They stepped it up in the 2nd half, especially the last 2 minutes.... Mexico started to play sloppy in the 2nd half.... But Rafael Marquez is unforgiving...Not the greatest game... But blah..

As a USA fan, Mexico is my biggest international rival, so seeing them drop points warms my heart. ;)

As host nation at the first African World Cup I'm hoping South Africa makes it out of their group. They are huge underdogs but early indications are they are playing well.

I just hate the mexican team in general, I was really rooting for South Africa. IN any casse, Uruguay and France should keep the Mexicans out of the next round.

It will be a tough group, but I think Uruguay and France are the favorites to advance. With that being said, I think everyone in that group have a decent chance to progress. France is weak at the moment, there is no guarantee they will make it.

I'm not a particular hater of the French (I cheered them on in the '06 final), but I would consider their going out in the group stage to be just desserts for the favoratism FIFA/EUFA showed by seeding them in the qualifying playoffs, not to mention the "Hand of Gaul".

+1

I bet Mexico would say the same about us,

And agreed with south Africa :)

Is anyone else in the US trying to access espn's live coverage online? It doesnt seem to be working. I click the link and nothing happens

espn3.com

It's working for me, and actually better than it was this morning. It still goes in and out, at which time I refresh. Sometimes refreshing works better than other times, though. For awhile, I was getting video, but not audio, so I was watching on espn3 and listening on espnradio, which was about 30 seconds off.

France and Uruguay playing awful.

Not a great game. But then the 1st half of the early game wasn't great either. Let's hope for better things to come. Diaby is having a good game.

I must say though, I do rather like the French kit. Very smart.

Too bad that french kit will last this year.... By 2011 the French kit will be sponsor by Nike and not adidas.

But damm France couldn't capitalize on Uruguay, even with 10 men...

The group is tied

France looked flat, they had more chances but Uruguay defended pretty well. Forlan could have won it with that half-chance volley. The sending off was pretty clear-cut. I agree that the French shirts looked nice.

Incidentally, it seemed like there were an awful lot of wayward shots and free-kicks...perhaps that Jabulani ball is just a bit too lively?

I watched the game in Anchorage's only (self-styled) "Irish Pub", which was cringingly tasteless...at least they didn't have a big leprechaun somewhere - oh wait, they do. There was also a lot of Scottish paraphenaila, leading me to belive the owners are confused between the Scotch and Irish. And even though they advertised televising the world cup here, I was the only person there watching the game.
