He has my sympathy, not my hate. How sad! While it was a bit of a howler, had our attackers been decent, and got us some more goals, it wouldn't have mattered

That ball was hit much harder than it looks and sadly Green didn't have time to get in the right position with his body behind the ball...
I hope my sarcasm detector is off, because really that was a regulation save.
Watching a bit of Algeria/Slovenia, my there's a lot of empty seats for this one. Not a great game either.

lol while i do love the canon blasts at football games after a touchdown, i do appreciate the shutouts when they happen!
You .... is, then I'm more then happy for you to keep your American sports as your favoured sports. If Football (Soccer) is played with the right tempo with the right tactics and style of play then it is very very entertaining, more so then any other sport, if teams in North America learnt how to play it like that then I'm sure it would be very very popular.
Anyway, a very shocking and poor show by England today, but a good omen is that the USA drew with Italy in their first group game in 2006 and Italy went onto win the World Cup.![]()
There's far too much 'non-football' talk going on.
Well, despite me winning a few £££ after predicting a draw, I do feel kind of robbed. I guess if Rob Green ever applies for US citizenship he's on a winner![]()
Today was the first day I've watched a football match from start to finish since my AYSO days twenty years ago. I consciously went in with an open mind, and I must say I really enjoyed it - even the draw doesn't bother me.
Looking forward to more!
No, I'm hoping for the Ivory Coast and North Korea to somehow make it out of that group. Sour grapes from 2006, maybe.
nah, it's not off. i about half agree. still the ball was hit harder than it looked. as a keeper i know whence i speak. his body should have been behind the ball but he didn't have time to get into position becausethe ball was hit harder than it looked! ...![]()
Clint Dempsey is not Socrates. A shot straight at you from 25 yards should be easy to deal with, regardless of how hard it was kicked. He didn't even have to move! He was already standing right behind the ball...
Anyway, we can argue about this all day. Let's both hope that Algeria and Slovenia play out this bore draw to make it easier for us to get out of the group...
Well, Green isn't alone anymore. Algeria's keeper just made an equally goofy move and Slovenia is leading the group...
25 yards is close enough and the ball was hit hard! lol. i'm trying to make you feel better and save green a little grief. he attempted to make the save from more or less a 3/4 qtr angle. he wasn't set up with his body completely behind the ball...![]()
That game was rough...
Interesting stat...of the 8 goals scored so far (super low total) none have been scored by a true forward (unless you count Clint Dempsey)...

TBO, worst World Cup (or any other large international tournament) I have seen so far.
Below par games, lots of empty seats, irritating noises....
and while a lot of people talk about the great team argentina has ... they are way weaker than 2006 it seems
I thought I was the only one not impressed...my god the cult of Messi drives me nuts...wake me up when he scores in the World Cup...yes he's definitely top 10 material...his team makes him look better than he is...Argentina is weak and the announcers pump them up too much...those 3 old defenders in the back will get burnt...they do have quite the roster of forwards...when Milito comes off the bench or Kun Aguero to replace Tevez or Higuain...that's impressive...

The problem for 'keepers is this a striker can spend a whole match missing chances, but if they get it right just once then they're the big hero, the match-winning goalscorer.
For 'keepers though the opposite is true, you can do everything right for 89 minutes but make one error and you're the clueless idiot who has cost the country dearly. I feel quite sorry for them sometimes, yes Green could and should have done better but it's happened, casting him as the national villain serves little purpose and changes nothing.
^^^^I am, shame Nani won't be playing. Plus am I the only one dying to see what a CR9 foul will be with the new ball?
