Ok,, Why is this so? Are the teams in this group that good?
Brazil have won the World Cup more times than any other nation, the Ivory Coast are one of the strongest African teams, Portugal are another strong side, and North Korea has nukes.

Basically, there are three strong teams in there. Portugal was one of the two unseeded European teams folk were wanting to avoid, along with France.

What was the headline of the SUN newspaper (or tabloid depends on your taste)... "England got the best group since the Beatles" or something along those lines...
I saw yesterday's Sun in the newsagents, the front page headline read...

England
Algeria
Slovenia
Yanks

I'm glad our tabloid press aren't – as per usual – jumping the gun with our chances of winning next year's competition.

Equally, if and when we get eliminated no doubt they'll be leading the demands for Capello's head...

I don't want Argentina ANYWHERE near the World Cup finals (even with the distinguished Lionel Messi) because Diego Maradona is such a bad influence on the team and is so disliked outside Argentina.

Almost as interesting as the headlines are the posts below them on blogs and sports websites...a lot of England fans are slagging off the other teams in their group. Granted, England should win the group comfortably...but I think that Algeria is no stranger to high-pressure matches (witness their games with Egypt), Slovenia showed massive toughness to beat a dangerous Russia under Guus Hiddink, and my boys USA are coming into the tournament with a great deal of belief after some emotional wins in qualifying plus our good showing at the Confed Cup.

So England are still going to have to be on top of their game in the group stage - though when you consider where the other seeded teams ended up England got probably the most favorable draw aside from Spain.

Although, if England end up going with certain medical enhancements that have been rumored, the rest of the teams in their group could be facing some stiff competition.

uhhhh i wouldn't doubt the red white and blue stripes to be second place in their group...... c'mon.... remember the freak game between Spain and USA in the FIFA confederations???? and Brazil....the USA has a good squad....and they easily take advantage of errors.

Why is that every time Honduras goes to the World Cup, it ends up against Spain?

Com'n give us a break.

I wish it was El SALVADOR......could have been a repeat of Spain 82......were we got slaughter by Hungaria 10-1....and Argentina 2-0....hahaha..

but i will be cheering on for Honduras!:) and USA

I don't recall the Sun showing how HARD the United States usually fares in a Group of Death rating typically drawn in World Cup draws... sour grapes and all that by the Sun don't 'ya know!

Oh, I wouldn't go taking it personally or anything.

Rest assured that tabloids such as The Sun will be spending the next six months convincing their readers that we're absolute certainties to win the World Cup - before rounding viciously on the manager and a scapegoat player or two when it all goes horribly wrong.

In the quarter finals. On penalties. Probably. :p

I'm fairly restrained when it comes to watching football - I don't get over excited. I support a very rubbish BSP team so don't have much to cheer about. But something about the World Cup turns me into a gibbering wreck. I start getting palpitations about a month before. I love it.
England's group isn't as easy as some are saying. USA were unlucky to go out to an utterly cheat-tastic Italy side in the last one, Slovenia no push overs. Okay, Algeria we should beat.
England have no strength-in-depth so are reliant on an injury-free squad, something that NEVER happens. I love you England but I suspect you will break my heart (again).

I am with Spain although i am Indian but i have lived my whole life in Spain. They even have a great team and a great coach by which they won the Euro Cup.

10-1??! Ouch! Anyway, I will like a repeat of Spain '82 where we bitch slapped Spain 1-1 (although we were supposed to win... Bad referee call that gave them a very proven non-existant penalty)

Yeah....that was a slaughter..hopefully El Salvador has a chance at 2014...and I hope Honduras can beat Spain......most likely It will be them and Spain to be victorious in their group... Honduras has good players like Suazo who plays for Intern of Milan, Pavon, and Guevara and Costly. :D

Costly = young Pavon....

we cloned him remember?:D

Well, the coach that guided them to the Euro 2008 championship isn't their coach anymore. He quit right after the conclusion of that tournament.

World Cup? Bah humbug!

I'm not going to tip Spain this year, I've fancied them for the last couple so they'll probably do something now.

Remember June/July in South Africa is their winter, with positively barmy 18 degC temperatures, much like the British summer. But I couldn't possibly bring myself to tip England, could I?

though that could be more difficult as expected... reaching the quarter finals

since the opposing group in the final 16 round will be group D with the germans, serbia, ghana and australia
so even if england makes it through the group as the winner it very well could mean meeting with serbia/ghana or in the worst case the germans (which as usual will play a lousy group and then come out completly changed)

i would start training penalties _now_
