Good lord, looks like a full on mutiny now. The team director has resigned and the coach threw his accreditation away.

Telegraph

It looks like to me that Domenech had better resign today, else I don't think he'll have any players for their next game. If Domenech goes, the players will probably come back.

So the Kiwis got an offside goal allowed and the girls in blue a very, very, Italian style cheap penalty.

My God...
But should it all be blamed on Domenech? IMHO the players are doing the naughty stuff here. The FIFA should send the whole French squad home.

It only looked like it did. My own close examination looks like Reid ony headed the back of the Italian defender's head:

I played it over a couple of times frame by frame in EyeTv and it looks to have come off the Italian defender's head. Reid's head was behind his. Correct call imo.

Reinforces my previous posting about video reviews being useful for the big decisions to avoid any controversy and the correct outcomes. Maybe each team can have 3 'video appeals' a game. The Italians could have used one there, and lost the appeal. :)

Gawd, this is more nerve wracking than watching Australia. C'mon Kiwis, hold on. Score even. 90 seconds to go...

Edit - Best result of the WC so far. :D

Well, that was a new one. Booked for having cramp!

As for the shambles that is the French team's hissy fit, couldn't have happened to a more deserving bunch after cheating their way to victory against the Irish - karma's a bitch. (I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if Gallas is the whinger-in-chief.)

So, as England fans, do we feel better now knowing Italy have had a worse start than us?

But Italy managed to get some shots on target, which is more than can be said for that sorry performance on Friday night.

It might have got off to a slow start, but in my humble opinion this is turning into a very entertaining tournament – as much for what's happening off the pitch as on it.

France. Heh. :D

More like thanks to what's happening off the pitch!

OTOH, on the pitch, gr8 to see New Zealand hold Italy to a draw, although that does mean that there now is a very big chance that Holland play Italy in the next round... and we hate playing Italy.

Good to see an (almost?) full house with the Brasil vs. Ivory Coast match.

It would be nice to see Ivory Coast win this one!

EDIT: crap.. 1-0 to Brasil (nice goal though)

EDIT: 2-0.. using his hands.. twice :-/

Hah hah, now that Australia's all but eliminated, I just find the differences between the FIFA rules for football and the FIFA rules for Germany/Italy/Brazil/Argentina to be highly amusing.

And now the Ivory Coast are opening themselves up by trying to chase a lead that shouldn't be because their game plan is shot to s*** by an illegal goal, I look forward to all the headlines tomorrow about how brilliant Brazil are. Oh, look, another Brazil goal because the Ivory Coast left gaps, aren't Brazil briliant, aren't the Cote D'Ivoire crap.. hah ha.

At least it's Drogba getting the bad deal now. Can't say I feel sorry for him. :D

Kaka red card = karma for Rivaldo in 2002?

Obviously not, and I hope it gets rescinded, but Ricky Kaka really hasn't looked at the races for the last 2 games...

Kaká is double yellow carded!! (Never should have happened, but I guess that even outs the hand-goal.)

The last 15 minutes of this game were crazy. Hard fought game on both sides.

Pathetic sport.... Run into someone and then start rolling around on the floor crying to try and get them sent off? What on earth!? Nice to see Kaka walk straight off without giving the referee a mouthful... That level of professionalism is rare in football.

I just did a couple of screen captures to help explain FIFA rules on 'handball' for any people new to this sport. There are two sets of rules, Football and GIBA.

Example #1, FIFA rules of Football - if an opposing player kicks the ball straight at you and it hits you in the upper arm while you're not even looking at it and even have your eyes closed, it is deemed a deliberate handball resulting in a penalty goal and a straight red card for the player to be sent off and take no further part in the game:

Example #2, FIFA rules for GIBA (Germany/Italy/Brazil/Argentina) - if a player controls the ball with his upper arm while looking directly at the ball to ensure he is controlling it correctly, it is deemed non-deliberate or accidental and any resulting goal is allowed to stand. He may handle the ball this way as many times as he wishes:

These different rule sets are essential for letting these four teams (GIBA) win the tournament every time between them bar one single occassion since 1970 in order to spread the popularity of football around the world. :D
