Switzerland sure don't look like winning. Honduras have blown a couple of good scoring chances in the second half so far...

Wouldn't surprise me that Spain and Chile quite like it that way it is... ;)

It certainly looks like it. What a terrible game to watch. Spain should get 11 yellows for collective time wasting.

Honduras were onside for that disallowed goal so they should have won anyway.

That was a good game until Torres took a dive that gave Estrada his second yellow. Even if Estrada did touch him - I haven´t seen a replay angle that shows anything other than Torres tripping over himself - it was way off the ball and definitely not yellow card worthy. The ref ruined a good game.
Piss poor second half from Spain. I kinda hope Portugal kicks their asses for having passing practice the last 30 minutes of the game.

When Chile scored I actually got the sense they had gotten together at half time and agreed to let Chile score one straight after the break, and then just knock the ball around for the rest of the game. Conserve themselves for Brazil and Portugal.

Clearly, Chile was happy losing by 1 with 10 players on the field, and Spain had no attack power and no desire to burn themselves.
The second half, after Millar's goal, was a waste of time.

Bravo is one of the greatest goalkeepers I've seen, but he made an awful mistake on the first goal... that conditioned the game. I honestly thought we were going to win this game, Spain is not a great team.

Brazil, on the other hand, is going to be the toughest match for us. The biggest hurdle in the cup.

Original post incorrect SF draw. Edited correctly now:

Quarterfinals:
Netherlands / Slovakia - Brazil / Chile --> Netherlands wins
Uruguay / South Korea - USA - Ghana --> USA wins
Argentina / Mexico - Germany / England --> England wins
Paraguay / Japan - Spain / Portugal --> Portugal wins

Semifinals:
Netherlands:USA --> Netherlands wins
England:portugal --> Portugal wins

Final:
Netherlands:portugal --> Netherlands wins

Game for 3rd Place:

England:USA --> USA wins ;)

I don't think you have that right, have you? The US can't meet England again until the final, as no team can meet the other advancing team in its group until that point. If the teams progress as you predict, the US would meet the Netherlands in the semi-finals while England would be gearing up to take on Portugal.

Based then on how you think they'd fare in head-to-head matches, the awmazz World Cup Final™ would see the Netherlands take on Portugal. I don't think that be a bad match at all, as it happens.

That's what I was thinking too. I was going off Ahmed's predicitions so I may have made an error. I'll have another look and modify my post if they're incorrect.

Edit - Yep, you're right. The USA will have to play the winner of the Brazil / Holland QF. So they're screwed! I'll change my post forthwith. :)

It could even be a Holland / England Final. That'd be good, eh? :)

Of course Germany and Brazil will ruin my prediction by winning through all the way and contest the final, but where the fun in predicting the predictable? :D Interestingly though, the odds are against it. The last time they played each other was the *only* time they have ever met in a World Cup match in its entire history if I recall correctly.

I'll give that a try.

As much as I'd love for USA to go all the way, I don't dare to pick them going beyond the semis. While I still think that the Netherlands is a dark horse, for some reason I don't think Brazil is a team they could get past.

Again, the consequences of beating Algeria and topping Group C on goals scored still astound me. They have the easiest path to the semis of any team among the 16.

The door's that way!

I've family in the Netherlands, so it would either be most fantastic or quite terrible depending how the result went – the Dutch arm of the Cake family (the Slagroomtaarts) wouldn't let us forget it. ;)

I thought you were related to the Stroopwaffels? :D

I am super excited about this match....this is going to be huge for us. Ghana are a good side, they held the Germans to just one goal. But I hope all the USA veterans of 2006 will be looking for revenge.

Final 16:
Uruguay:South Korea --> Uruguay advances
Argentina:Mexico --> Argentina advances
USA:Ghana --> USA advances
Germany:England --> Germany advances
Netherlands:Slovakia --> Netherlands advances
Paraguay:Japan --> Japan advances
Brazil:Chile --> Brazil advances
Spain:portugal --> Spain advances

That's how I picked the final match before the World Cup...

Interesting predictions - though I must say I just can't see a final without one of either Brazil or Argentina. Both look very comfortable if not totally dominant, and I feel like Germany, Enngland and Spain are all a bit tentative.
