Go Japan!

There sure is. You should come and visit some time.

Disclaimer: I'm English so I might go and have an Italian meal tonight. ;-)

Ohhh, that's awesome. :D

But you know what's even cooler? We have an actual "Little Portugal" in Portugal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portugal_dos_Pequenitos and http://www.portugaldospequenitos.pt/index.php/english/Historia.html

As I said in an earlier post, Denmark has the defence.

Didn't help that Kjaer wasn't playing. But Sørensen was pretty shocking all game long. The post saved him from a Seaman-esque howler in the second half, and his reaction was very poor for Japan's third goal.

I'm still buzzing from the Italy / Slovakia match. Easily the most exciting contest in this World Cup so far, and I'm well pleased with the result. If Italy had played all game with the same urgency they had in the last 20 minutes when Pirlo came on, things might've been different.

Also, kudos to Howard Webb for doing an excellent job refereeing a very intense match. (An English ref does a good job!?! Whaaaaaaat?)

And congratulations to the All Whites! You guys carried yourselves very well in this World Cup. See you again in four years -- the benefit of being in a very easy qualifying group.

The Guardian clearly disagreed. :D

It's true they are probably only here because their confederation got reshuffled, but the upshot is they will get better because they will be playing in more world cups.

I completely agree, excellent match. It also made me wonder, was the last world cup a fluke? Or does Pirlo really make all that difference? Analysing the differences between this Italy and the Italy of 4 years ago would make an interesting debate.

That is the only thing you have said in this thread I can agree on wholeheartedly...:)

So we disagree on handballs in the box being penalized based on interpretation on whether it's deliberate or not (depending if you're supporting Germany or Australia)...

But how's about Van Der Vaart's handball against Cameroon for the penalty? Why does he only get a yellow but Kewell gets a straight red? The rule is it's yellow only if the player handles for the purpose of preventing an opponent from gaining possession, this was not the case as it was heading goalwards straight from the free kick. Stopping a shot (as per Kewell) as Van Der vaart did is a straight red. No interpretation, it's the rule. But it wasn't applied.

Haha, nobody could ever top Poll's performance of giving three yellow cards to a Croat player in 2006.

The FA have pleasingly confirmed that England will once again wear all red when we take on Germany this Sunday.

Something missing from that kit... can't quite put my finger on it..

I know! A Carlsberg logo. Or is it Standard Chartered now?
