My facebook status: Still getting that USA jersey..... As an ex-goalkeeper myself I have to admire Tim Howard going to the other side and try to go at it with the other goalkeeper... and as a US fan I would only get pleasure from Mexico losing tomorrow against Leo messi. :)
;)

I was really rooting for the US boys - well next time around.

Tomorrow is an important Day for Germany. Pole Position in Formula One and World Cup against England - awesome.

Go Germany !

Shame for the usa. They had an amazing tournament and have been fun to watch. :(

Well, we were simply outplayed. Giving up that first goal in the first four minutes of play like we have in almost every game really cost us this time. I knew that it would come back to bite us at some point in the tournament and it did.

The US played very well in the second half, but... in the knockout stages if you can't finish your chances and make a couple of defensive lapses, you're going home.

Per FIFA:

Germany - 39 attacks; 9 from the left, 9 from the centre, and 21 from the right.

England - 50 attacks; 15 from the left, 18 from the centre, and 17 from the right.

Relatively important game for England's left side?

Cheers,
OW

Ashley Cole offers a good attacking threat down the left, but the player in front of him has to provide cover when he gets forward.

Whoever plays on the left of England's midfield has to be disciplined, no drifting in to the middle this afternoon. I'm looking at you when I say that, Steven.

Sadly Gerard will almost certainly drift inside... Switch Gerrard and Milner for today's game?

I'm sitting in the slowest train in the world, and am starting to get just a little nervous...

What Cole forays? He's only come forward a handful of times in the first three games, and then runs straight back into position when he doesn't get the return pass. Gerrard totally kills his attacking game.

Ohh, kick off finally. Exciting. Ing-er-lund, ing-er-lund...

Edit - there you go - @ 10 mins Cole comes forward into acres of empty space and doesn't get the pass as if he's not even there. Edit 2 - he's actually coming forward in this game, having to chase back a few times.

James has started well :)

I think I am actually hearing some singing for the England fans... not very well thanks to those vuvuzelas...
Can everyone blowing one of those things please be shot?

EDIT: Oh my....!!!

brahaha ... english defense and keeper working together in der usual manner

ohh and miroslav klose: +1

edit: "der usual manner" .. i'll just have to keep that typo

and by 17 polish goals you mean now 18

as expected: if England tries to make the game they will be running into german counter attacks

now the only hope for the english is to get into the break without a further goal and then in the second put everything into the game

also i hope Milner losing the ball to the Referee will be a classic in the highlight reel

Okay you rules-gurus, can you enlighten me as to how this linesman right in line with the England back line didn't call Klose offside on this goalkick for him to score.

there is no offside on the goal kick

edit: by that i mean "the offside rules doesn't apply when a goal kick is made"
