Now that was a deliberate handball. I don't blame him actually. He had to stop the goal even if it meant a red card. Paid off too, with the penalty miss.

He's actually celebrating being sent off, ha ha. He saved them. So far...

Penalties.

Edit - that's good argument for awarding a goal instead of a penalty. They do that in Rugby League here for the same reason. Players deliberately sacrificing a penalty to save a try. Now they can't do that any more as the try is awarded anyway.

No kidding. Even if the penalty kick went in, that was a heads up play.

How do you miss a penalty shot like that? Is he blind?

Uruguay! The first Latin American team to make it to the final 4.....

Now its up to Argentina and Paraguay..... And maybe Spain if you consider them latin.:)

Did you see some of the Ghanaians trembling waiting for the penalty kicks? Their nerves were fritzing overtime.

Closer game than I expected, shame about the cheating...but losing Suarez for the next match is a huge blow. Will Uruguay have anything left in the tank when they face the Dutch?

Suarez is a cheat and i hope Holland stuff them in next round. They need to change the rules so that the attacking team gets the goal and the offending player still gets sent off. I can understand a penalty if someone handballs in the area from a cross or whatever but that ball was clearly hand balled off the line.

Also, the Dutch will be facing the team that really 'lost' 2-1 but advanced instead due to the vagaries of the rules.

I agree he won't be winning any FIFA Fair Play award any time soon, and they will probably be frowning right now over this episode. Not in the spirit of the World Cup, as they say.

i would agree with this rule change, but as is it's not cheating at all. it's a foul, like another foul, correctly punished accordingly to the rules.
cheating is a different level and involves trying to fool the refs or bypass the rules. there is nothing morally or ethically wrong in suarez' play, in my view. the right play based on the current rules.
