Well I was hoping Germany would win. Argentina was floating through this World Cup on offside goals and handballs. Good side-linesmen/ref today. I was happy that I didn't have to watch Maradonna parade around all day long as if he were the one scoring the goals.
Much like yesterday with Brazil, everyone put their expectations on one player to save the team-Messi.
Great attacking by Germany kept Argentina on the defensive the whole game. It seems like Germany had worn Argentina out by the middle of the second half, and then the goals rained down on them.

EDIT:GER v SPA (if they win today) will be a great game. Too tough to call IMO.

good grief... 4:0 ... i guess my argentina shirt will be yet again waiting 4 years

schweinsteigers walking past 3 argentinian defenders and then his pass to arne friedrich (scoring his first national team goal) unbelivable

and the 4th goal the same .. absolutley brilliant cross by özil .. and klose hammering in his 14th world cup goal thus surpassing pele and fontain and equalizing with gerd müller... and now he has 2 more games to catch Ronaldo

edit: two thumbs up though for the fair hand shakes after the game ..after the sore loser brawl in 2006 a nice chance.... don't be let down ... the next copa america or world cup will be coming soon enough

edit2: and the next superstar going home without a goal...

I feel your pain Takao, Argentina was just hammered. Germany really outplayed them in every aspect of the game. A bit of a shocker!

...

Is there no justice at this World Cup!??!?!:

No, but there will be a TV series.

Another good performance by the German midfield; protected one suspect defence and exposed another.

It's no thirteen in one tournament, sheesh!:) With all those goals in the game, relief that Ozil got something at the end.

Man marking - anyone seen a manager respond to a man marker by man marking him, to protect and free the original marked man? If yes, how did it go?

Cheers,
OW

I did not expect that result....Spain (assuming they win) are going to have to step up their game if they hope to be in the final.

Spain v Germany: Euro 2008 redux...

On the downside, this wasn't a great game as a contest. Argentina just never got into it.

for a little bit of "karma"
http://bayern.theoffside.com/team-news/maradona-to-muller-this-press-conference-is-mine.html
from the friendly in march where maradona didn't recognize müller at the after game press conference (müllers debut game) and stormed off...

though it moved me how maradona shed already some tears 60-70 minutes into the game today

after this game it has become obvious that having a single defensive midfielder against this german squad is suicide ... if mascherano, often held up high as one of the best in this positition can't do it then no one can do it (made worse by playing with 2 wide midfielders)
it was absurd to watch how germany _ruled_ the midfield and in the last 20 minutes you could feel how instead of letting those argentina let limp away with a 2:0 or 3:0, how this germany pushed on

this game is the highest argentina world cup loss since 1958.. and honestly argentina could have went out of this game with a 5:0 or even 6:0

Back in 1974 Argentina lost to Holland 4-0 as well

Now.. Spain v Paraquay...

One of those games Spain should win. And that in itself makes in harder for Spain.
But still. Who would bet against them?

Well thank you for temporarily making me feel a tiny bit better about England's performance, at least they got through the German defence on occasion.

Thinking Holland - Germany final?

I would so LOVE that...!

and after this first half of the paraguay-spain game it is looking more and more possible... the spanish having luck with the linesman there calling that goal offside
suprising line up from paraguay: no santa cruz ? no barrios ? currently it sure is paying off.. even more so with valdez having a kuyt like work rate
apart of that xavi shot over the bar was there actually a great shot from spain ?

edit: offside or not: the question is if cardozo is passive or active.. because valdez sure wasn't ofside
IMHO because cordozo jumped for the ball he turned into an active role and thus was legitly called offside... had he decided to just stand there doing nothing the ref could have decided that he was passivly offside and had the goal allowed
all in all though it's a close call .. with a different linesman it might have ended different

I agree with that. Once someone who is offside gets so close to the action without actually touching the ball, the player must be ruled offside anyway. i.e. active.

So, IMHO you can't compare this decision with, for example, the Tevez goal...

Good to see Fabregas! Maybe something will happen now... up until now its quite boring.

Something is happening!! Penalty!
What an awful penalty... too easily saved.

OMG... now one for Spain! And they do score...
Nope... take it again!

What is all this..? But, at least things are happening! :D

WOW.... OMG... what a couple of minutes we're having!!

Drama, drama, drama!

The one against Spain was flagrant, the one against Paraguay was softer, but both clear penalties. Paraguay took theirs poorly, but the Paraguayan keeper made a great save on Alonso's second.

Spain still look like they can win this, Paraguay are probably hoping for penalties...

spain and paraguay training for penalties against germany before they even finish the game

and to phrase it more correctly: "THIS IS MADNESS"

LOL! :D

Must admit Spain should have had a penalty again... when Fabregas was brought down on the rebound.
And TBO the fact that Spain had to re-take it....

If I were a Spain fan, I'd be furious.
