I want to see the Dutch win, but I think that 2nd goal should've been called back. If you can act like a shield or a decoy you are a part of the play, IMO.

so much for south-americans dominating the tournament

it's what happened with the disallowed paraguayan goal against spain. the 'scorer' was onside, but his teammate was in active off-side because he interfered with the play in the way you mention.

nerve wrecking at the end ... though in the first half holland was really bad and didn't really deserve that wonderful goal

and honestly the second goal was lucky not being called offside after the paraguay game but perhaps too close to call
though after 70 minutes the uruguay team was at the end of their strenght and thus holland got more chances

that said: an european world cup winner confirmed
edit: and today 5 Bundesliga players on the pitch in the dutch squad in the end

and if we get Germany vs Holland it will be Bayern's Robben and Van Bommel vs Schweinsteiger Lahm Klose Muller...:D

Podolski (former) and Neuer (future) Bayern players get honorable mentions.

and for further honorable mentions: van der Vaart played at HSV for quite a bit

Kroos being another Bayern player .. he was only at loan in Leverkusen
oh and another former player: Jansen ;)

On a similar note, the commentators here haven't missed an opportunity to tell us that Diego Forlan used to play here! In England! For Manchester United! In the Premier League!

Of course, needless to say any player who does anything even slightly impressive is headed for these shores next season, what with all the top players wanting to play in The Best League In The World™.

Of course, playing in The Best League In The World™ doesn't prepare you to win the World Cup, but they can take in the lovely English winters. So they've got that going for them. Which is nice.

Van Bronckhorst's goal was ace, obviously his apprenticeship in the SPL put him in good stead (Best League in Scotland TM). I'm currently stuck in a generic hotel somewhere in England.... the whole pub was rooting for Uruguay in the end so that we'd get another 30 minutes of football.

I still can't decide who to root for tomorrow, Spain was my pick before the tournament (I pick them every WC, without sucess) but I just can't see past Germany.

We're in the final!!!

YES!!!!

IN THE FINAL!!!

Last time was way back in 1978 when we lost it to Argentina, like we lost the final to Germany only 4 years before that.

What a party here.....

Guys... it really is so cool!!!

Congrats! Most of Canada is rooting for you

You're right. But I don't think any of us expected the outcome to be what it is now.

Eh? A couple of people in this thread have predicted this outcome or very close to it.

My own pre Round of 16 prediction was for a Holland/Portugal final (Spain now taking Portugal's path after winning that match) with neither Brazil or Argentina even making the semis. It was all really quite obvious in foresight. :D

I do admit I had England beating Germany, which they were on target to do with Germany totally blowing a 2 goal lead and the score drawing equal at 2-2... but... not 2-2...

I'll predict it now so there's no dispute - Spain v Netherlands WC final. Netherlands to win it. And not a small call to make as it will be the first ever final since the dawn of creation and the Big Bang not to include Germany, Italy, Brazil or Argentina. ;)

Good predictions.

Since the 1970s when I first got into football, I always assumed the best of the best were a team that was Spanish speaking. But who would have thought that Spain would be in the finals? They still may not make it, but if pundits are to be believed, Spain has a really special team who has yet to see their full potential. If Spain got this far not playing their best, then they should just sail through to the finals, and win that one, too.

Personally, I would like to see the Netherlands win it all but I don't hold onto that hope too much. It will be fun to see how this year plays out.

As good as Brazil (and South America in general) has been historically, and with so few teams compared to Europe, with all the South American wins and near wins as runner ups, 3rds and 4ths, it's nice to see some others get a chance.

Netherlands vs. Spain would be a fun one. I will be happy for either team.

Germany also has a very young team, the youngest in 8 decades of German teams, so it's always nice to see players still on the rise get a win.
