About a week ago all the pundits were sure that Europe was being dominated by South America in this World Cup too, but that changed pretty fast!

The question really is whether Spain can "flip a switch" and suddenly play up to their potential when it's needed. I kind of doubt it because it doesn't usually work that way. On the other hand, going with the hot hand (Germany) doesn't always work either. Everyone was talking about how Argentina was locked in until they played Germany. Then everyone decided they were pretenders. As usual, we just guess until the game is played.

exactly that what makes this game so unpredictable ... also some are already talking about spain as if they had so easily made it into this semifinals like they did into the finals 2008.. ignoring that this year david villa not only scored 5 out of 7 goals but also prepared/assisted the other 2 goals but also that the other knock out results where just two 1:0 .. and for the paraguay game a rather lucky one at that
also it will be interesting if the spanish players will be if all of them have the nerves .. after all let's not forget that for spain this is the first world cup semi final and to make it worse they will be facing a team which not only won against england and argentina in the knockout phase but did so scoring 8:1, making this their 12th semi final and have players who played at a world cup semi final before including the striker who is close to being the best world cup striker of all time

and with the germans they are going to have to replace their absolute stand out player who simply couldn't do anything wrong in front of the goal (10 shots , 4 shots on goal->4 goals)... and to make it worse he was perhaps one of the key players responsible for the immense psychological & mental strenght: absolutley no fear or trembling nerves while playing, no doubt about his own abilites and off the pitch even more impressive as a character
for christ sake after been booked with the yellow which sent him out for the semi, when being substituted out he jogged out of the pitch grining in a good mood and even shook hands with the referee which booked him

edit:another little statistical fact:germany never lost (so far) against a reigning european champion at a world cup. 1966 Spain, 1970 Italy, 1986 France, 1990 Holland were all german victories

I really don't care much either way, but I'm rooting for Germany just so I can give my manager who is from Spain **** tomorrow :D

Plus the Germans make good cars. What have the Spanish done? :p

The confidence is flowing through the Germans and i can't see anything but a German win tonight. Spain have spluttered to the position they are in, ok they are in the semi's of the WC which is no mean feat, but they will be found out tonight.

German 3 v Spain 1 :D

I have a good feeling about Germany in this one. I think they win 2-0.

Don't say things like that! Unjust Unjust. Viva Espana!!!

That's my call as well...Spain starting a 4-4-2 w/o Fabregas or Torres:

Spain XI: Casillas, Ramos, Puyol, Pique, Capdevila, Busquets, Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta, Villa, Pedro

-J.-

If Spain play to their potential then they will win 2-1 but i haven’t seen anything to suggest that they will up their game for this game.

BUT

This is the semi final of the World cup. I have always taken a defeat in the semi final of a football match or golf game harder than loosing the final so if they can motivate themselves for this game we should have a great game on our hands.

Germany XI: Neuer, Lahm, Friedrich, Mertesacker, Boateng, Trochowski, Khedira, Schweinsteiger, Podolski, Ozil, Klose

So Trochowski for Muller...straight swap so tactics should remain...

dissapointing but obviously Löw wanted to go for more expierence. .. considering that cacau more of a striker and kroos perhaps playing too much out of position (and perhaps more needed as a substitution for central midfield)

what should be noted though is that trochowski is just like podolski known for striking from a distance... .. something to watch out for

The problem with striking at distance is the bloody ball lol.

This should be a great game and i can’t wait for it to start!!

Nyet! Spain 2-1 Germany. :D

I disagree about Spain spluttering. Quite the contrary, Spain has been extremely consistent for the last three years by not conceding more than a single goal in any of their last 21 competitive matches including Euro 2008 - bar one solitary occassion against Bosnia in their last WC qualifier when they had already easily qualified. So based on actual consistent form, I'd say anyone, including Germany, putting three past them in one game is being overly optimistic.

It's my belief right now before kickoff that what's more likely to be found out in this match is the hype surrounding Germany, not that Peek and Pooh are going to suddenly and inexplicbly crumble like Argentina's backline did.

Well we’ll see in two hours mate ;)

Pedro in ahead of Torres and Fabregas both on the bench. This is his big moment to prove himself or not, I'd say!

That guy running on the pitch was expending more energy than both teams so far! Very cagey first five minutes.

It’s starting to open up now. I find that when a game starts a bit cagey it takes a good attack on the goal then both sets of players relax a bit. That ball played through to the Spain striker was awsome and seems to have had a positive effect on the game
