We're in the final!!!

YES!!!!

IN THE FINAL!!!

Last time was way back in 1978 when we lost it to Argentina, like we lost the final to Germany only 4 years before that.

What a party here.....

Guys... it really is so cool!!!

I would like to see the day the USA makes a final....which will probably be 2084.:p

Congrats! I was wearing my holland jersey today!:)

spain and germany today will be another game of epic proportions though .. spain is nowhere on the same level yet like they were 2008 (etching out a slim victory) and germany has improved significantly

though there are 2 downers before hand:
-Müller missing out (please Löw bring on Kroos not Trochwoski)
-Fabregas sustained a leg injury in training and is in doubt for the game: he 'could' play despite this slight injury but i think Bosque will go for Torres in that case

edit: ah the germans and their little superstitions: the dicscussion is about Joachim Löws blue kashmere sweater: which after having worn it at the 4:0 against australia and 4:1 against england, Löw was more or less forced by his staff and players to wear it against argentina

and again the kashmere sweater provided 4 goals... expect to see Löw wearing the same sweater again today ... an epic battle indeed: sweater vs octopus

Congrats! Most of Canada is rooting for you

Cheers! :)

I'd love to see a Spain - Netherlands final, because it would mean a new champion. But simply judging on current form the Germans are the best side.

Congrats! It must be awesome to have your national team in the final!
Thank you! :)
Yep. I was small when it happened in the 70's, so I can't remember those finals. In 88 when we won the EC it was so fun... but being in the WC is so much better...!
So excited!

It was crazy last night indeed. My road ended up getting shut down due to the amount of people on the streets. Ended up having to get out of the taxi and walk the other half of the trip from city to house!

What a night, bring on Sunday!
I can't wait! I have to make sure I have the Monday off.. at least the morning. ;)

Hmm...

They also blamed the ball’s light weight of just 440 grams for the poor flight and lack of consistency...

The latest edition of FIFA's Laws of the Game specify that the weight of the ball at the start of the match should be between 410-450 grams, so despite what folk are saying the Jabulani isn't that light really.

Mate, i played with the Jabulani a few weeks ago and everything the players are saying is true. We played with it for 45 mins and changed it back to another ball at half time. It flies like and old cheap plastic ball you could buy out the newsagents as a kid. When you hit a shot it is all over the place.

Adidas got it wrong with this ball IMO

My point is that a lot of the complaints about the ball mention the ball's perceived lack of weight as a factor – but the Jabulani is towards the upper end of FIFA's specified weight, so I think if there is a problem it lies elsewhere.

Some players have indeed had issues with the ball, but I wouldn't say it's the weight – it may be something to do with the materials, some element of the construction, perhaps the reduced amount of exposed seams causing the flight to be unpredictable. I don't know, but players regularly use balls of similar or even lighter weight without complaint.

For what it's worth, I too had the chance to have a bit of a kick around with a Jabulani the weekend before last and my experience with the ball wasn't too far away from what you're describing. Every deft pass went astray, every carefully placed shot flew well wide. However, this is what happens every time I kick any ball so I wasn't that surprised. :D

Yeah, when you hold it in your hand it feels normal, then you kick it and things change :D

I have a good accurate shot on me and i am pretty confident at long passes and being able to bring them down (just don’t ask me to tackle!) When i first started the game i thought i was just having a nightmare then other lads that are far better than me were all over the place too.

I am sure you are aware that Adidas have Seb Blatter in their pocket so he will never come out and criticise the ball.

Bring back the tango!!!

It has not so much to do with the weight and everything to do with the seams. Regular balls are made with 32 hexagonal panels. The Teamgeist for World Cup in Germany 2006 had only 14 panels. The Jabulani ball has 8 panels. The more seams or panels the more stable the flight of the ball. What is frustrating players is the erratic flight of the ball.

That all said as a spectator I have seen some "mind bending" shots that looked like they changed planes three of four times on the way to the net!

...

edit: and today 5 Bundesliga players on the pitch in the dutch squad in the end

How does van Bommel get away with it?

They won't let him wash it! The stinky v-neck to win by knockout.

Cheers,

Sepp Blatter, influenced by the financial muscle of one of FIFA's major sponsors? Surely not! :D

Bring back the tango!!!
The Tango is the absolute pinnacle of football design, with an honourable mention to it's illustrious predecessor the Telstar.

As an aside, Troon is – unless I'm mistaken – the birthplace of Alan Hutton, the player whose spat with Jozy Altidore led to the American international being red carded in his final match for Hull City. Links everywhere. ;)

i have no idea .. one of the mysteries of the game .. how bommel didnt collect 5 yellow and a red in this last game alone... perhaps it's his positive behaviour towards the referee all the time

on the ball discussion: i should be noted that there has been a new ball at the tournaments for decades and the complaining about the ball business hadn't started right until the early 2000s ..which just per pure luck 'coincidences' with Nike starting to push for and get "official game ball" contracts in the premier league, serie a and la liga :)rolleyes:)
and now it's adidas getting the "money" blame despite the players in those leagues not being forced to train with any different balls anymore like for example in the bundesliga which until this year never had an "official ball"

also where were those complainers with the adidas supplied official Championsleague ball ? remember how the teamgeist got complaints ? and how many complaints where there the CL season 2006/07 ? exactly ... not a single one

i can only fathom how 2012/2014 in the complaints will develop with the Bundesliga also choosing an official ball now for the next season... and adidas won the bid ... don't be surprised if the next year suddenly all german clubs start hammering in the european contest with being able to play with the adidas ball not only at certain clubs but in all of them

one goal last night was knuckling ever so slightly... made the keeper for Uruguay look like he had made a mistake... he didn't the ball kept him guessing...

Adidas, a German company, make a ball only the German team seem able to use. It's a conspiracy I tell ya!

;)

Yeah i know Alan well.

....if pundits are to be believed, Spain has a really special team who has yet to see their full potential. If Spain got this far not playing their best, then they should just sail through to the finals, and win that one, too.

About a week ago all the pundits were sure that Europe was being dominated by South America in this World Cup too, but that changed pretty fast!

The question really is whether Spain can "flip a switch" and suddenly play up to their potential when it's needed. I kind of doubt it because it doesn't usually work that way. On the other hand, going with the hot hand (Germany) doesn't always work either. Everyone was talking about how Argentina was locked in until they played Germany. Then everyone decided they were pretenders. As usual, we just guess until the game is played.

Well, they'd have to change the rules for that to happen, since that's expected to be a Summer Olympic year instead. Maybe in 2086 instead!
