How much time can Miereles get at Liverpool now? With Adam and Henderson ostensibly ahead of him in the pecking order, it would only make sense for him to be sold on despite his quality play last season. He'd definitely get good minutes at Chelsea with Essien out for a while.

Mertesacker would be a good addition to the Gunners. Apparently they're serious about signing Clint Dempsey away from Fulham. Götze would be a better fit, but Dortmund is smart to try to hang on to him.

Good question. I still think there may be plenty of minutes to spread around between the league and domestic cups, and the need for injury cover. Whether the player agrees is another matter.

I would be thrilled to see Dempsey in an Arsenal shirt. I've always wanted to see Dempsey at Liverpool but Arsenal will do.

EDIT: Joe Cole off to Lille on loan, with N'Gog and Poulsen rumored set to transfer to Bolton and Evian respectively. Cole has never clicked at Liverpool and he's expensive, I wonder how much of Cole's wages are being picked up by Lille.

On a typical Saturday night in any town, guys are at the dancing trying to 'pull' a girl. The night goes on without success, hot babe after hot babe ignore the advances. Suddenly it's 2.55am the last song goes on and in sheer desperation they grab the larger girl they've been ignoring all night in the hope of redeeming something from the night. Then the lights go on and the bouncers throw you out. And she wants a kebab.

That's the same as the final day of the football transfer window.

And now we know how Fuzzy spent those long, lonely nights while he was marooned on Teeside. ;)

Owen Hargreaves to Manchester City? I suspect their plan is to strip him down for spare parts.

And he passed a medical???

Seemingly, in City's rush to sign anybody and everybody player wise, they forgot to sign any medical staff. As good as Doris the Tea Lady might be, her fondness for permed hair might just come back to bite City! ;)

Apparently that Joe Cole deal also means Liverpool get first dibs on Hazard. *sigh* i'm now resigned to the unlikelihood of him joining us.

Hopefully we can at least land Malouda as a stopgap (although given that the Alex deal is dead i'm not holding my breath there either), as well as M'Villa. Not really keen on Benayoun at all tbh...wouldn't mind Dempsey though.

The Manchester City promotion department have the poster ready [pinched from the Web]:

Looks like the Dempsey to Arsenal deal is pretty unlikely. He has been arguably Fulham's best attacking player for two seasons now, so I can see why they want to keep him. They obviously spent some money in this window, presumably to add credibility to their Europa League adventure. I just hope he doesn't get in a funk over missing out on a chance to move to Arsenal.

Now its a £10m bid for Arteta. Too bad the bid is for a club that doesn't not even want to be looked at much less entertain the thought of selling from an already thin squad. Therefore it is unlikely to happen.

The Arsenal/Arteta move is completely dead in the water, according to the telly types. Everton unwilling to sell, Arsenal unwilling to up the offer.

Signs of midfield-based panic from Arsenal?

Unquestionably. When you start to "step up your efforts" to buy Benayoun who in essence goes against your purchase philosophy then you know there's a problem.

Arteta would've been a much better buy but once again...we miss out.

Why do we have someone who holds a Masters in Economics for a Manager. Stingy!!!

just for reference: last year Arne Friedrich which was mertesackers partner in germanys central defense in the 2010 world cup transfered within germany for 1 million...

honestly if it were a 3 or even 5 million transfer i would have said it's a fine deal but 10 millions ? also next year he would have been transfer free

why not invest money into one of the countless young german players, Mertesacker sure hes one of the better defenders but there are similar players which are younger

I think the emphasis this time seems to be experienced players...having been lambasted for buying inexperience over the last several years.

I think the problem though is that Arsenal are overloaded with promising youngsters – Wenger needs to back them up with more experienced heads.

As for the fee – the Premier League's all about the money.

Apparently we actually made a £10-£12m bid for Cahill not £6m, City were also in it but again Bolton/Coyle wanted more. You know you're being greedy when City think you're overcharging!

God this boring, where's the stories about Messi being seen on the Humber bridge looking glum because his big move to Hull city has fallen through.I've got to say in spite of the cash spunked on Hargreaves and the long support for him from Man U I can see this coming back to haunt us.

Everton cannot afford to sell a single player. So I'm sure they've priced them well above what they are worth.

They just want to play football. It's all about the football with the Premier League. :D

Again, I think Coyle is just trying to hang on to Cahill. When you get an offer you can't refuse, you take it - but some teams need the players more than they need the money.

Until I hear official word from either Pearson that it isn't happening, I'm living the dream. :p

For our part, we're waiting on Leicester City to sign Jermaine Beckford from Everton. This will then free Martyn Waghorn to join us from the Foxes, and in turn we'll then be sending Jay Simpson out on loan to Millwall...

EDIT: Sky Sports now reporting that Arteta/Arsenal could be back on...

True. Evidenced by 'Arry saying Levy turned down a £40m bid from Chelski for Modric

Please let this happen. Pleaaaseee. Haha
