Seems like he's kept his head down a bit since leaving Hull City.
The fact that he's been plying his trade in League One – well away from the unrelenting media glare of the Premier League – will also be a factor in that. Plus he's not annoyed Arsenal lately. :p

I hate to say this, but in a fight between Owls and Blades, there can be only one (bloody and feathery) outcome. Unless, of course, we are talking about blades of grass. Then I'd tip the Owls to win. :D
The Blades? Pah! The Blunts more like, which may or may not be rhyming slang...

Meanwhile, Fulham have to face Bernard Mendy this evening – a former Tiger who is of course best remembered for being one of the players involved in Phil Brown's half time team talk. :p

The Owls are a much older club, and you can't knock that. I like Wednesday's original blue hoops too.

The one thing I really wish we had today was the late 19th century facial hair styles you see in all the old photos. I wish some modern player would grow a handlebar 'stache.

Shhh...don't say it too loud or that fact might show up in the match report. :D

1960s vintage, would I be right in thinking?

Also, is the image flipped? The crest on the right hand side would be unusual, and it looks to be the reverse of the usual Athletic Club mark (any other outfield number other than '8' would have confirmed this ;)).

Or 11, come to think of it.

yep flipped. i forgot to flip it the right way in iPhoto. how do i find out who would have worn #8 in 1960?

That was before the days of squad numbers of course, so the number 8 shirt would have been issued on a match-by-match basis – meaning the number would likely have been worn by a few players.

You might be able to find some old team sheets or photos or something online which will give some names, the club didn't win a lot of trophies during the 1960s though so you're not going to find cup final or league winning teams listed.

Fulham out of the Europa League. A rather embarrassing collapse at home too. Stoke, however, are still in Europe. It would be hilarious to see one of the Manchester giants eliminated by the Potters at a later stage.

yeah, i wondered if that wasn't the case. still cool though.

A notable name from that time is Fidel Uriarte, a forward who spent 15 years at the club (including much of the 1960s) and won La Liga's top goalscorer award in 1968.

None of the pictures online show him from the back so we can't see what number he tended to wear, but he might be a possibility?

EDIT: The Athletic Club team list from the 1969 Copa del Rey Final has Uriarte listed eighth in the starting eleven. Pictures show that the team's shirts had collars at that point so they aren't quite contemporary with the style of yours, but it's an indication that the player in question may well have worn the number 8 shirt during his time with the team.

It'll do for me, in any case. :p

Good detective work. In this day and age, players are photographed from every angle every week...it's funny how poorly documented the history of football sometimes is. Newpapers and oral history (interviews) are often our only substantial sources, with a few scattered photos thrown in.

Check eBay for old programs (did the old programs have the proposed teams printed? In those days there were no subs so it was easier for them to predict.)

Happy birthday by the way. If it was yesterday then we share the same date.:)

I have it on good authority from Mr Claus that he will be delivering my boys some new 2012 Scotland strips.;)

I then noticed something when I saw next year's away strip... I wonder where Adidas have used this template before... (Lord Blackadder I'm looking at you)

Bad news for David Villa, the striker broke his leg in yesterday's pointless the World Club Cup match against Al Sadd and is probably out of the Euros. What a horrible tournament to suffer an injury in.

Ha, I stand corrected!

There's definitely quite a bit of similarity there. Do you know what color shorts they will use with it?

The home design's faded flag bit on the front makes it look a buit like a T-shirt, but the collar with the "x" stitched on the front looks nice.

Indeed, while it's not as big a loss to Barca as they have such an impressive squad, it's certainly a big miss for Spain and for the player himself, to be injured so badly in something so meaningless

Can you imagine this as Wenger's line up next season? ;)

...not so much an "x" as it is the cross of St. Andrew?

Indeed it is the X of St Andrews.

The point of posting the Scotland away strip is that Adidas used the same template as the Columbus Crew. The only difference is Scotland have navy blue shorts with yellow stripes, Columbus are all yellow.

Celtic were given into trouble for sectarian singing last week. I don't think retaliating is too clever (didn't want to post the picture here.)
