I'm afraid I just don't see how AVB will last beyond this season. Only Arsenal are allowed (expected?) to self-implode like that repeatedly with little consequence.

Won't be surprised if Mourinho returns to take over in summer.

Also i think its time Chelsea gave up on Torres. Yes he made a brilliant cross BUT unforgivable not to win it for Chelsea at 3-2. Similar howler in the reverse fixture at 3-1. Been too many months now its no longer just a blip.

Malouda is also becoming the next Arshavin.

Welbeck dived for the second penalty. There was contact, but he sold it hard and the ref fell for it. As long as Man U can count on two penalties every match, their future looks rosy. ;)

Seriously though, Chelsea ripped Man U apart but then failed to finish the game out. The ability to reverse such a big deficit (apart from the penalties) is all down to the spirit Ferguson instills in his team. Take that same group of players and pop another manager in there at halftime and the game finishes 5-1 Chelsea. Swap out Steve Kean with Fergie and Blackburn are playing Europa LEage football next season (and Man U are relegated).

Agreed that United essentially had a 12th player in Webb. But still, as you said, under a different manager the Chelsea mentality would be different. A Chelsea team under Mourinho or even O'Neil wouldn't implode like that. AVB has let the team capitulate too often that its no longer a coincidence. O'Neil or Mourinho could even get Torres *gasp* scoring again.

As Fergie once said "We made them look better than they were" Thats what Chelsea did today.

Congratulations Chelsea on ripping Manchester United apart for, erm, let's be generous, ten minutes.

The 12th Man BS; thanks for not giving at least one penalty in the first-half, not sending off Cahill, and for ignoring Luiz's penalty area foul on Evans - even though it's staring you in the face. Yeah, the 12th Man.

Welbeck and Adam Johnson should have been booked at the least. The FA should make it a 5 match ban from next season.

Other matters - I hate RVP;):D

Cheers,

That's all it should have taken, frankly. Despite Man U's energetic performance in the second half, Chelsea only have themselves to blame for not winning, and almost stole the match anyway but for one or two great saves from de Gea. I don't care who you are facing, if you are up 3-0 at the half you must win the game. Chelsea became too cautious.

Both teams should have been punished more for various fouls; in the end I think Man U got the rub of the green but only just. I could have done without quite as much pressuring of the ref, something both sides were guilty of doing.

Am i the only one who just cannot get into this sport? As far as i can tell, its a bunch of grown men in tights + shirts with giant shoulder pads dry humping for a few secs a time.

Cool graphics and ads though.

So, Don Fabio isn't happy about the FA's decision to remove the captaincy from John Terry, has publicly said so on Italian TV, and now may be in breach of contract. If so, does that mean he's fired??

Ok, so while JT IS innocent until proven guilty, I personally think it's the right decision for the FA to make. Let's face it, JT wasn't going to surrender it voluntarily (but then why would he, that's like admitting guilt). But in terms of bad publicity, our media do their very best to hound the players, especially around the time of major tournaments, as it is, and it's not as if JT's case is just an unpaid parking ticket...

He shouldn't have been given the captaincy back in the first place...

Aside from Capello and Terry, the manager speaking out like this is only going to undermine whoever is selected as Terry's successor.

He hasn't been caught parking his Bentley in the disabled bays again, has he? ;)

No, indeed. I saw the interview on FF with Rio on Saturday. He certainly didn't seem happy that he'd been stripped of the captaincy to have the armband handed back to Terry and said he didn't want the captaincy back. It was also discussed on MotD later. Shearer commenting it was one of the greatest honours of his career, but he could understand Rio's frustrations

England is going to be a mess for the Euros. Situation normal then. :D

What should have happened is this - the FA ignore whining from clubs about playing committments and push to begin the trial as soon as possible. Surely players can be stuffed into a suit and go give evidence for a few hours here and there. The FA brass and Capello have immediate closed-door talks and decide the captaincy issue, together, in person, after which a statement is made with no further comment from either party.

The FA took far too long to resolve the Suarez issue, and this case against Terry is going to drag on for what, 4 months? that's incompetence on the part of the FA, plain and simple.

Still, Terry should never have been made captain in the first place - the man is a controversy magnet. And there the blame falls squarely on Capello. He seems genuinely surprised that the captaincy is such a big deal in England (and I'm with him there), but even so he should have accepted this cultural quirk and worked with it, rather than plowing forward with an unpopular choice.

EDIT: I am wondering if ex-Crew midfielder Robbie Rogers could become a victim of Ken Bates' sacking of Simon Grayson. Usually new managers shuffle the squad when they come in, so having shown enough promise to Grayson to get a gig Robbie will likely have to prove himself all over again to the new gaffer...

Liverpool once again show an inability to score. Carroll and Suarez both had chances saved, Carroll shanked a half-volley and we just didn't test Friedel enough. Spurs defended very well, but they were too cautious overall, pinging the ball around uselessly in midfield before inevitably being stopped by Liverpool's defense. Bale had that one great chance but his shot was perhaps not world-class, and Reina was able to block.. The 0-0 result is no good for either team but probably worse for Spurs, though with Chelsea and Man U drawing they don't lose too much ground.

Suarez was very energetic in his substitute appearance, we need the extra pace and guile up front.

On to Old Trafford. We will lose there, and both Man U's players and the crowd will wind up Suarez, get him sent off, and we'll lose him for another three matches. ;)
