Breaking News! I've left it late but I've literally made this post in the dying moments of Deadline Day!

It's all a bit silly, it really is. What annoys me is that a club can do really good business earlier in the month but if they're not having strikers sent over by fax with minutes to spare on the final day they're seen to have had a poor window.

Word is that 'Arry Redknapp is currently trying to get Bassong out of the way so he can bring Ryan Nelson in before the window closes. He can't help himself, he really can't – he has to do a deal. Any deal. :D

I'm sure Sky wishes there were about 19 more Harry Redknapps in the Premier League - especially since the original version might be headed to the clink. ;)

Very few notable players changing hands, and of those, none are really that interesting. I'm also glad to see that Tevez looks set to rot until the summer.

In championship news, Nikola Zigic scored four goals. In one match.

Heh. :)

The Suarez affair has been the big off-pitch scandal of the season so far, but the Rednkapp and Terry trials have the potential to be far more headache-inducing for the FA.

They really do make a big deal about nothing, it reminds me of a normal day on Fox News or MSNBC.

Very funny today especially, as barely anything happened, and SSN had the studio done up specially!

Everton did good business today, pleased for them. Pleased with their result too.. good, proper football club.

Rather than being an unusually dull January trsnfer window, we should probably look at this is being "normal". It's just that recent years have been crazy.

Most clubs look for major signings in the summer anyway, January is a time to shore up/slim down on cheapish squad players and loans. Big signings are an indication of either desperation or prodigality.

Dumping Saha was wise, his injuries caught up with him, and Jelavic had a good strike rate in Scotland. He'll debut against Wigan as well, which gives him a decent chance to score. He'll get good service from Donovan for a few more weeks...

That's only marginally better than me claiming I have a good strike rate on Fifa 2012 ;)

His best bet would probably be doing a deal with HMRC to avoid being banged up ;)

So 'arry did indeed have a few deals yesterday, With Bassong going to Wolves on loan, Pavlyuchenko going to Lokomotiv Moscow, Corluka going to Bayer Leverkusen, Pienaar going back to Everton on loan, and Saha coming the other way. It was funny listening to Martin Keown on MotD last night going on about when he played against Saha, commenting on how much pace he had. Maybe so, but just how long ago was that Martin? :p

Actually, I'm a PES man myself. Still plodding along with PES 2011 and my edited Sheffield Wednesday. Still, it's good to see Messi in blue & white stripes, sporting the Owl :)

Do you have a good strike rate on FIFA 12?

Football Manager is where it's at, you young upstarts with your fancy graphics and stuff.

Meanwhile, John 'JT' Terry will stand trial starting July 9th – meaning of course that the loveable adulterous racist* will more than likely be England captain throughout Euro 2012.

Lovely.

*Allegedly.

I heard the guy who handcuffed himself to the goals at the Everton City game was just trying to postpone the match.

I also heard he was trying to conduct a post-match interview with the keeper.

Meanwhile, Leeds United have sacked Simon Grayson after last night's heavy defeat to Birmingham City. As for his replacement, the bookies have slashed the odds on Neil Warnock taking over at Elland Road.

That's right – we could potentially be seeing Ken Bates and Neil Warnock at the same club. It's the situation the phrase 'dream ticket' was created for.

After playing so rubbish last night that even Andy Carroll managed to bag a goal, many Wolves fans are now calling for Mick McCarthy's head.

I've heard a few people mention Colin as a replacement but I think I'd rather just settle for relegation with Mick. Go on Leeds, sign him up. :D

That could all end very badly for England...supposing Ferdinand is healthy, what then? This squad has the potential to have the worst personal atmosphere of any England squad.

I lurked on a Leeds forum the other day to read up on the O'Brien story. Leeds supporters absolutely tore him apart when word came out that he had refused to play, and posted some pretty nasty comments filled with vile personal attacks. Once the news came out that the player was suffering from depression, those very same fans posted long conciliatory missives about how they wished him the best, and wagged a finger at their fellows, lecturing that everyone should support him. They didn't seem the least bit disturbed about the horrible things they's said just a month previous. Football supporters are a dangerously capricious lot, and the biggest idiots always seem to speak the loudest.

Tragic news that I've been following all morning: a massive pitch invasion by a large group of Ultras (supporters of al-Ahly) in Egypt has resulted in a large number of fatalities. The Ultras attacked the opposing team's supports and their players on the pitch, some were armed, and police have either been ineffective or overwhelmed. The death toll is 73 and rising.

Very, very grim stuff.

Very sad, and unfortunately maybe more to this than meets the eye, the Ultras have political links and so this might be more than just football hooliganism.

Meanwhile in Scotland, the biggest newspaper the Daily Ranger seems to have turned against their favorite club. They've accused [new owner] Whyte of stealing supporters money and not reinvesting transfer money as promised. I'm skeptical myself, factoring of future earnings is a standard business practice, especially in football, to improve cash flow, and the fact that they received £5.5m for Jelavik doesn't mean that a cheque for £5.5m cleared in their account today, there are so many clauses attached to these deals.

So there is a bit of a bun fight going on up here at the moment, those fans who believe the Record as gospel are planning to protest this Sunday but opinion is divided.

With Egypt being in a politcally fragile state, it's definitely bigger than just one incident in a match. We can't class this as strictly football-related violence or simple hooliganism, but it raises the ghosts of past football disasters and it's not something anyone wants to see.

Do you think Jelavic was sold in order to pay the bills?

Yes and no, I think he had served his purpose and hadn't played much this season so it was time for him to move, but it's noted that Rangers accepted £5.5m from Everton rather than £7m from West Ham so whatever payment terms Everton offered were more to their liking.

I'm guessing Everton offered more money, in cash, up front, versus money tied to a certain appearance threshold or something.
