So am I too late?

Don't ask me what's going on at Rangers because I don't have a clue, there are just so many stories flying about.

The one that really concerns me however is the Gillett-Hicks-esq stunt Whyte pulled when buying the club, he promised to pay back the £18m owed to the banks which he did by borrowing the money off future season ticket sales rather than using his own money. So he got the club's fans to buy it for him, and pay interest on it.

European Cups, Ballon d'Or twice, domestic trophies, success abroad, good work at Southampton, promotion at Newcastle United, doing well in Superstars:)...but the moments we tend to recall,

Bremner, falling off a bike, Brut/Henry Cooper, Spain 1982, loving it, lay-by, Brian Moore/Batty, last game at the 'old' Wembley.

Edit - took too long posting - didn't know he had a singing career outside of World Cup records.

Cheers,
OW

Defenders: Khalid Boulahrouz (VfB Stuttgart), Jeffrey Bruma (Hamburg SV), Johnny Heitinga (Everton), Joris Mathijsen (Malaga), Erik Pieters (PSV Eindhoven), Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord)
Midfielders: Mark van Bommel (AC Milan), Urby Emanuelson (AC Milan), Nigel de Jong (Manchester City), Stijn Schaars (Sporting), Wesley Sneijder (Inter Milan), Kevin Strootman (PSV Eindhoven), Rafael van der Vaart (Tottenham Hotspur), Georginio Wijnaldum (PSV Eindhoven)

For me no great surprises, I'm glad that he is trying out new players. 15 players who play in foreign competitions. No wonder Dutch football competition is so poor.

Poor Keegan. He's such an easy target. I still think he had a look that needs to come back though. ;) Besides, could you see CR7 or Busquets getting up with a smile after that fall?

That record cover is simply epic.

I'm tipping the Dutch to take this match. And Pierce to come in for some criticism afterwards. Still, if there ever was a 'meaningless friendly', this would be it.

Get in.
2-0 against Boro and Brum lost. Good times :D
No match for us today, but we have nine lined up next month – we'll be in action every available weekend and midweek. Add into this a number of our young players heading off on international duty plus some very long away trips and we're going to be knackered by the end of it.

We don't have a particularly deep squad and it's a rather young one too, so March is going to be a real test for us.

We have eight I think, playing one extra than scheduled as our away match at Doncaster was called off. Just hoping for a win next Saturday, it'll be my birthday :D
End of March starts our near impossible run-in, though. Blackpool, West Ham, Leeds, Brighton, Southampton, Nottm Forest, Palace then Birmingham :(

I'd take Palace, Nottm Forest, Brighton, Leeds and hopefully could sneak one or two of the others.

For us (home games in bold)...

Blackpool, Leeds United, Ipswich Town, Cardiff City, Crystal Palace, Southampton, Leicester City, Portsmouth, Coventry City.

Plus the international fixtures a couple of days before the Blackpool fixture which aren't a great help.

That reminds me, I'll have to sort out our form for Leicester tickets tonight. We're planning on making a weekend of it. :D

Hopefully you can get three points off Leeds. ;)

on the plus side - those young blokes are gonna get a lot of experience.

look for silver lining maytee, the silver lining... :)
A month's worth of fixture congestion is small fry compared to past trials and tribulations, I can tell you. On that note, yesterday marked the 30th anniversary of our becoming the first professional club in England to go into receivership – essentially the forerunner to the administration process in place today. Here's a news report from the archives, featuring a rather young Steve McLaren.

We've flirted with financial meltdown a number of times since of course, but it's still crazy how our fortunes have waxed and waned over the past few decades.

UP THE OWLS!

Ace. I had a Pound on the Wendies. ;)

In today's other, lesser derby Spurs coasted to a 2-0 lead before spectacularly imploding and – as I write this in injury time – are 5-2 down. I take back everything I said, this sort of result demonstrates that 'Arry would be perfect to manage England. :D

Good grief, that was a trying affair. I really feel for Anthony Gerrard, what a horrible end for him in his big moment.

There isn't a word in the English language that adequately plumbs the depths of horror necessary to describe how bad Liverpool's finishing was in this match. 120 minutes of peppering the Cardiff goal with shockingly wayward shots. Almost 20 corners and one goal to show for it.

Carroll looked really poor for most of the match, despite being involved in Liverpool's first goal, Suarez looked rusty, taking too many touches in the area. Even Bellamy seemed infected with a stone foot. Downing had a great match overall, possibly Liverpool's most consistent player over the match.

Cardiff played an excellent match, they defended with total conviction and they were much more deadly in front of goal despite having far fewer chances. Turner and Taylor were absolutely huge for Cardiff. Toward the end they showed wonderful heart - finishing much stronger than Liverpool.

Both sides looked totally exhausted by the end of extra time, late sub Kuyt was pretty much the only player till running at speed. Enrique was walking and Johnson's diddling on the ball led to the late corners and Cardiff's equalizer. The penalties were evidence of the fact that the players had nothing left in the tank.

Gerrard's finishing all day was awful, as was his penalty, though he had a couple good free kicks.

The win should be a morale booster, but Liverpool need to forget about today tomorrow and finish out the season. It was a good result but not an encouraging performance.

EDIT: What a huge win for Arsenal. Just the kind of performance Gooners needed to see from their boys. Always hate to see Friedel get hit for 5 though.

He was on loan with us last season, so we'll probably get the blame for that.

People can talk about penalty shoot outs, and whether or not they're a fair way to decide matches – but the really important thing that now needs to happen is that this result completely demoralises Cardiff and spoils their play-off aspirations. :p

Both sides were completely finished physically by the match, I have to think it's going to affect upcoming performances. It was obvious that Dalglish was hoping to win the match without having to use Bellamy or Kuyt, but that didn't happen.

Downing got man of the match, but I would have given it to Turner.

Still, a Cup win is a Cup win. :)
