Poor Liverpool. Ref hasn't had a great match. Handball from Simpson to stop a goal, plus Papisse is offside for the second goal...as in MILES off. Also useless sending off. Game is almost over, 3 subs already used why send off the GK. It wasn't even a real headbutt to boot. Perch conned it and ref gullibly fell for it. Common sense please.

Liverpool continue to be in free fall. FA cup looking less likely.

Enrique looked hilarious.
They always do. The shirt rarely fits and never matches the outfield shorts, and that's even before they've tried doing any goalkeeping stuff. :D

And fittingly, seeing as how today is his birthday...

The knives are out for Dalglish in the press. On the upside, this slide will hopefully remove any doubt in the club ownership's minds that we need to sign some players in the offseason.

It also continues to be demonstrated that the Carling cup is a poison chalice. At least we can't be relegated.

Just great.

Spurs predictably win. Chelsea & Newcastle are only 5 pts behind. We still have to play Chelsea, City and go to Stoke as well. Also RVP has stopped scoring recently.

Arggghhh...why did we have to lose at Loftus Road

*sigh*

Now then, how will it play out; pick up the full 21pts or the more realistic 12...or even less. In other words, 3rd, 4th or Europa.

How are you feeling as a Wolves fan right now? especially after Saturday's result

The anger subsided weeks ago and has since been replaced by apathy. :(

Realistically we were relegated the day Morgan and Moxey appointed Terry Conner as manager. He was already regarded as a waste of space by most supporters and his promotion to manager was unbelievable. The lack of faith felt by the fans at the time has been confirmed on the pitch and Saturday's loss to Bolton made it the worst run of home defeats in the clubs history.

We played well for 60 minutes on Saturday but missed too many good chances and were made to pay the price after one of our formers players conned a penalty to give them the equaliser. After that the defence reverted to type and fell apart to quickly gift them a couple more goals.

After a bright start to the season we've gone downhill and in recent weeks have become a laughing stock. We only bought the one centre half to strengthen the squad in the summer and our new Captain has been a major flop by all accounts; making loads of stupid mistakes which have lead to goals, turning up drunk for training and arguing on the pitch with a team mate is not what we expected from a player as highly regarded as Roger Johnson.

McCarthy should have been sacked before Xmas because we were already in free-fall but the board knew they would have to spend big money in the transfer window if a new man came in so they did nothing. When they finally panicked as a knee-jerk reaction to the Albion result, their shambolic attempt to find a new manager confirmed most supporter's suspicions that Morgan and Moxey were totally clueless.

One amusing thing is that on the same day Mick was sacked, the Early Bird season ticket letters were sent out so supporters could renew their seats for next season at a discount price. You won't be surprised to hear that it attracted the lowest take up for over 6 years even though they had opened it up to new season ticket customers for the first time and there's also a brand new stand with seats up for grabs. It looks like we'll be kicking next season off to a half empty stadium unless they manage to attract a decent manager and have a major shakeup with the squad.

Though it looks like our Chief Executive isn't too concerned by recent events...

Moxey maintained it was the right decision to appoint Connor. “Yes and we still support him,” he said. “We were losing games and we’re continuing to lose, but we made our decision and we’re sticking to it. But I believe the team is performing better than before.”

lol. Moxey's statement is outright hilarious. Do you think Wolves might have stayed up if Mick wasn't fired? i'm tempted to say yes. Experience of being there before and pulling through would have been massive.

I wouldn't say he would have definitely kept us up because it's mostly his fault we are in the position we're in but I'm sure we would have battled to the very end with Mick as manager.

At least you're guaranteed an easy 3 points next Wednesday to help towards your fight for 3rd place. :)

I'm categorically against these mid-season managerial changes. The only reasons that owners/chairpersons do it is because

  • They can't radically alter the squad in midseason and
  • They won't fire themselves
So the manager is left holding the bag. Bad ownership, injury problems and off-form players are issues that all end up getting laid at the manager's door, because he's the first to go. It isn't fair, it often doesn't work, and it's just plain silly much of the time. I'm not saying it never works, but usually it's just a knee-jerk move so the board/ownership can be seen to be doing something. Or, in Roman Abramovich's case, it's the equivalent of a nervous tick.

Agreed.

I'm guessing they tried to emulate what happened with Sunderland but failed. I dunno why they rejected Steve Bruce either. Maybe he asked for a transfer kitty they couldn't/wouldn't provide.

I think that's the reason Alan Curbishley turned us down.

At the time Bruce was an unpopular choice with the supporters but I'm sure he would have been welcomed with open arms if we'd known what madness Morgan & Moxey had in mind.

The problem isn't so much getting shut of McCarthy, but more so getting shut of him with nothing near a viable replacement waiting in the wings.

It's a bit like when we got shut of Brown and installed Dowie. Brown should have either gone earlier or at the end of the season, whoever was brought in had nowhere near enough time to turn things around – and in any case, Dowie wasn't the right man for the job at all.

Rest assured though that we'll welcome you with open arms in the Championship, OllyW – that nasty Premier League doesn't appreciate you.

One amusing thing is that on the same day Mick was sacked, the Early Bird season ticket letters were sent out...
No sign of our renewal forms yet – word is that the owners are hanging on in the hope that we'd potentially have play-offs/Premier League to entice stragglers. Hmm.

Young and Valencia are proving to be lethal weapons for Utd. Two brilliant goals.

Poor Blackburn but you just have to put your hands up and accept the brilliance.

Ferguson gets away with it, again; slow versus Fulham and no left for most of today - a great job wasting Rooney and blunting Evra's attack. The games were in the balance for too long, and a lot of it is down to SAF.

Edit - at least Rooney provided some entertainment; tripping over Robinson when Valencia scored.

Cheers,

IMHO there is a lot of bad ownership in football these days. There is a lot of "Better keep up with the Jones' " mentality going around and it bankrupts team after team.

I guess that was the whole strategy right there: keep it tight for the first 60 minutes, then go for it at the end. Luckily it worked out, though the more conservative/defensive strategy ended up with Rovers getting more good chances. Thank goodness for De Gea, he has been stellar lately. Rio has also been very good. Glad to see he's still got something left in the tank.

Guess he thought it was a cross, as well? :D

But seriously, how did Valencia put that spin on his shot? He hasn't scored a ton, but he does know how to finish when he's got the chance. Really pleased to see him in such flying form.

Yep, leaving it late is pushing luck. I didn't like the selection, either; why not Giggs or Young out wide and Rooney up top? It restricted Manchester United more than Blackburn Rovers.

De Gea; thankfully the spill was covered and he made up for a poor punch. He is coming on, and hopefully his whole game can reach the standard of his shot stopping.

Cheers,

I watched the highlights (lowlights?) of the Liverpool-Newcastle match last night; Reina has to go off for that but my word Perch is a disgrace for his outrageous flopping. Every time I see a player go down clutching his face it drives me nuts. Sissies.

It was sad to see Carroll get barracked by his old club's fans - he's playing like crap at Liverpool, it wasn't his fault he cost too much and Newcastle did well by the deal. Was it really necessary for the Geordies to ride him that hard? I'm finished with Carroll, and I really don't even want to stick up for him, but the whole thing seemed excessive to me. Newcastle were 'bad winners' that day.

The thing is, the owners and board members never suffer the way the supporters, managers and even players do. Owners obviously never get fired, and when they do lose money on a deal (like Hicks and Gillette) they fight tooth and nail over it, as if they have some innate right to walk away with a profit regardless of what happens to the clubs. I think some Bundesliga-style financial controls are needed throughout UEFA. I doubt the 'Fair Play' rules will do much to fix the problem.

But seriously, how did Valencia put that spin on his shot? He hasn't scored a ton, but he does know how to finish when he's got the chance. Really pleased to see him in such flying form.

Even the best players don't do that every time. It's a lot of skill combined with a healthy slice of luck - just like Crouchy's goal against Man City. Nine times out of ten that ball does not go in. But when it does you get a spectacular goal.

One bookie has already payed out on United's inevitable title win...

EDIT: Barca and Bayern both through to the CL semifinals, no shock there. Poor APOEL, I hope they snatch a goal somehow at the Bernabeu.
