The Hawks blew it last night, but that's OK. At least I was spared from having to see Nashville walk all over them. Was also hoping The Sens would wrap it up last night. I'd like to see them go further. Maybe Anderson will show us mercy at goalie camp this summer if they do- Ha, doubt it! ;)

But you know what's good? Vancouver is gone! :)

It found me. It was certainly not my first choice, but a captain suggested I try it. I was afraid of it, but once I tried it, I loved it and never would play any other position now. It suits me well.

Playing goalie is the best. I've played since 7. I started a roller league at 6 and was a skater, but the next year I think there was a need for a goalie/I wanted to do it. Started ice hockey at 9, played A/AA onward.

Huge perk of being a goalie? Never pay for drop in. Or rat hockey is what you crazy Chicago/IL people call it. During college on break when I was back in Michigan, I could hit anywhere from 1-5 nights of drop in hockey a week and not pay a dime.

Yeah, but our stuff is much more expensive and we get a lot of injuries. But yeah, it is THE most fun position out there if you're so inclined. Where do you skate? I go to Robert Crown in Evanston, Johnny's IceHouse and Heartland in Lincolnwood.

A better perk of being a goalie is - being a rent a goalie. Getting paid to play hockey. I make about $200-300 a week (It's a part time night job. You play when you feel like it. Making 25-55$ a skate) It's all cash money, and boy is it lovely.

OK, how do I get that started? :) That would be awesome.

It depends on where you live. Try using Google and see if there are any rent-a-goalie companies in your area. If there is, apply and hopefully you'll get accepted. If there are none in your area, try marketing yourself. The better you perform, the more often you'll get called back. Leave your name with arena managers and things like that.

I always enjoy playing hockey, and when I can make cash from it, it just makes it that much more fun.

I get emails all the time for games. That's how I broke my foot, by playing too much. I will look into this.

Judging by his avatar, move to Toronto. ;)

You know you want to anyway!! :D

Someday. ;)

Haha yeah, Toronto definitely has the market for this type of thing. There is always hockey going on, and goalies are always needed.

If you're new to the game, I'd recommend starting off cheaper. I would say charge around $25-30 per hour (or for one full game) and for every 30 minutes, add $15. So if the skate is 1.5 hours, they pay you $45. Once you get better and you can start charging more. Charge $40 for the hour and then $15 for every additional 30 minutes. So for a two hour skate, you could potentially make $70. It's easy and fun money. Not to mention it's all cash money.

That's cool. Do you wear a crazy mask like your avatar? I did notice that goalies get to play for free on most open hockey. I then saw how much and expensive the equipment is! I played goalie in football and a little wicket keeper in cricket when I was in High school, but will do a few 'semesters' of clinics to see how I do learning to be a skater...

True, I dropped a ton on my equipment during my travel playing days, but I also keep things for a long time. My pads are the original Vaughn Velocity SRs. I think I blew all my teenage savings at the annual Perani's mega sale for those.

I actually don't skate at all in Chicago. I went to college here, so during that time I never bothered to bring my equipment to IL. I just skated back home in MI. Now that I'm working full time, though, I've considered it. Thing is, I don't have a car. Johnny's... East? I guess has locker rental, which is quite appealing. I'd probably have to be married to their rink or start Zip Car-ing around, both I've thought quite a lot about. I want to get back to skating regularly instead of once or twice every couple months when in MI. No way I'd be able to (or want to) take my equipment on the CTA haha.

Meh, not my style. I've filled in for a few friends' adult/beer league teams on the rare occasion, but not one to place a sign out "For Hire". :p

---------------------

So I haven't watched a second of the Florida/NJ game due to stuff going on tonight, but now that it's 2-2 going into the 3rd, I'm free. I hope Florida closes it out. Time to turn the game on.

Lunongo would waive NTC

While I commend him on being the adult in the relationship that is the Vancouver Cannucks, I dont see him moving anytime soon for one simple reason-

The CBA. No one will attempt take on a massive contract like his before the CBA is sorted out. No one knows what the cap will be, how contracts like this will be treated (if they are even deemed acceptable). Once the CBA is re newed, then maybe he will be moved, but one minute before a team knows whether they can take the cap hit

Here's a pic of me and a teammate making a cool save. I do have a red and black mask. ;) The reasons for us playing free is the physical risk and cost of equipment. Injuries are a given, and you need to buy the best stuff you can. Skaters spend several hundred on equipment. We spend a few thousand on equipment, not to mention medical bills. One thing you need to accept is that you will get hurt playing hockey, especially as a goalie and even more so if you're a bit older like me. If you're not OK with injuries, play another sport. You will get hurt playing hockey. BUT, you will also have more fun than you've ever had in your life. I can guarantee you that. Hockey is a blast.

I use iGo or have friends drive me to rinks. Bring your stuff up man and play! There are tons of rinks here. I'll PM you my email. There is a good open skate at Robert Crown Center in Evanston in the summer on Saturdays from 4:30-6 that I pretty much run. Skills range from juniors/minors to beginners. It's a good place to practice with some great, really skilled guys. That starts first week in June through September.

The hockey director at my local rink said I can start going to hockey clinics, only thing is it needs full protective equipment. $270 later and it looks like I'll be going there next Wednesday!

Very excited, and yes, I do accept that I could and probably will get injured playing, hopefully I can use the time on the clinics to just make sure I have decent technique and get myself prepared to take hits if they happen. After that, I just need to always remember to warm up and cool down properly, because the one time I didn't, a few years ago playing rugby, I hurt a knee (which has been better for a while now).

Very cool! Yes, make sure you stretch really well.

So Bruins-Caps Game 7 in about 20 minutes. Head says Bruins, heart wants the Caps - probably the first time my heart has ever wanted the Caps to win anything.

Any thoughts or predictions? I know a sizable chunk of the posters here are Bruins fans, so they're probably a few beers deep and glued to the TV.

I want the Rangers out so the Blues are guaranteed home ice advantage should they reach the finals, and I want the Bruins out because I hate all Boston sports teams.
