If the Devils can actually come back and win this game, they deserve to win the Cup. I don't see it happening though.

Here's Bernier's freshly updated Wikipedia page :p

That hit should never have happened. Keith Jones got it right when he said that the Kings should have been called for a two minute penalty for hitting from behind just before Bernier's hit. Ah well, crap officiating strikes again.

Congrats to the ****ing Kings! <----as Dustin Brown would say it live on NBC :p

Only 2 arrests so far.....one for public intoxication, one for forgery. No riot yet......;)

What an incredible turn of events in the 1st period with that penalty... wow. Utter domination by LA pretty much regardless, but that sure did help.

Never for the life of me would have predicted a 6-1 steamrolling.

Congrats to LA and NJ. Well played final series. Everyone won tonight-a great game played well. Quick gave me some heart attacks tonight (please teach that guy how to play the puck) and Marty just looked happy to be there. He should. He's a legend.

Congrats to both teams- they played with honor and skill this whole series (except for the evil play on Quick). Otherwise, good series and congrats to LA. You earned it.

And Marty- don't retire! You're clearly not done! (saying this as a 45 year old goalie myself ;))

I guess we're done now and I'm glad the Kings ended up winning it. I did like the grit that the Devils showed but it was too little too late.

I guess we are moving on to signings and July 1st free agency. Bruins locked up Chris Kelly (4 yr / ~$12M) and Greg Campbell (3 yr / ~$4M) which are both good moves. I'm looking forward to when they announce that Rask is locked up given Thomas's antics.

Winter classic leaf vs wings.

Great series.
One selfish stupid play ruined it for the devils.
Glad to see the kings win it though.

Wonder who the flyers will dump this off season?

There are those that think Scuderi turned at the last second and left himself unprotected while Bernier was already committed to the hit. Also, people think that it should have only been a 2 minute minor, not a 5 minute major.

That being said, the Devils have no excuse for allowing 3 goals on that PP.

Also, if you watch the whole video, you'll see that Stoll should have been called for a hit from behind just before Bernier's hit from behind. Bernier's hit probably wouldn't have happened if the refs made that first call.

Yes there was a non-call as well but it might have been masked by the line changes.
I am not sure any player would want to risk eating glass only to stagger up and look dazed.
The question I posed to some discussing the hit was it really necessary? Was there a need to crush someone like that. Come off the bench full stride to make a hit after the puck was already going up the boards? Some called it finishing the check. Ok

The Kings had a questionable interference call on them in game 5 which led to the devils scoring and eventually winning.

I think that many players tend to risk "eating glass" to make a play, especially at this point in the playoffs. I don't see much of a difference between "eating glass" to make a play and diving in front of slapshots to block the shot. That's just as crazy. I think that Scuderi knew that Bernier was coming, but hoped he would let up on the hit. That's why he turned a bit at the last moment- he didn't think Bernier was going to hit him full force.

I agree though, the hit wasn't necessary- at least in the way that it occurred. Bernier could have easily rubbed Scuderi out instead, and it would have had the same intended effect (unless Bernier meant to injure him, and we have no way of actually knowing that. I don't think he meant to hurt him- Bernier isn't known for that). There's nothing wrong with finishing your check, but there was no reason for Bernier to finish his check with as much force as that.

haha that was awesome. reminds me of recchi last year, when chara handed the cup, he raised it up and screamed "****in right!!" clearly over the nbc mics. love it.

I'm glad the Kings won too. They have a good team. And I can't stand anything related to new jersey.

Kelly for $3 million per is a steal. Love both these signings. If they can flip thomas's rights to a team trying to reach the cap floor, they have (including Savard's $4 million being put on LTIR) almost 14 million in cap space. More than enough for Rask (hopefully 4yr/14mil or so), an ELC for Dougie Hamilton, and an impact player (PARISE please!!!).

The Kings should enjoy this now, because the other boys in black will be back better than ever come October. ;):D
