Now LA has a chance to break the road win record - just what I wanted! Sucks for my buddy - he's in a wedding going on Saturday, haha, so he's relying on me for text updates.

I must say this too- both teams have played well and with skill and honor for the most part. I like seeing that.

I hope the rest of the series will be more like tonight. The first three games were boring snoozefests. There was actually a touch of emotion tonight.

Yeah. I'm sure Marty is thinking this might be his last time to win the Cup too. I saw an interview with him where he talked about sticking around a while longer. Last year he was thinking retirement due to numerous injuries. But in this interview he said he was having fun and wasn't ready to quit. I see no reason why he should.

Several friends of mine think he should quit after this season. I say no- ride the train til the wheels fall off. Give it your all. Quit when you are ready.

He deserves to retire on his own terms. I think he should come back and play one last season, and have a farewell tour of sorts.

However, with the CBA coming to an end and no negotiations underway, there is a good chance that there won't be any season next year. So, he may be forced into retirement after all.

There will be a season- too much money to be made. And I can tell you this- I will never own a stick without a Brodeur curve. I will always use his sticks. They're great.

Don't be so sure. You weren't a fan back in 2004-2005 when the entire season and playoffs were cancelled. It was a mess. It could happen again.

The owners aren't happy with the way things are (continuously rising salary cap and high salary floor), and neither are the players (they want more money, they don't like the escrow). They both want a bigger piece of the pie, which obviously isn't possible.

Now that the NHLPA has a very strong leader (Donald Fehr), they won't back down this time around.

I'll take a late start like the NFL/NBA and condensed season like the NBA as the most likely odds. There's far too much of a gap for it to work out perfectly between Bettman and Fehr, but the game has just become too good for the two sides to stupidly lock out for another year. Also, many teams don't have a war chest of cash they can just sit on this time around.

While I do agree with you that owners and players are unhappy with how things are, I really do not honestly think they will let an entire season go-it would literally kill the sport forever. Is a partial or condensed season possible-absolutely. But I guarantee we will have a 50 plus game season. Anything less, and not only will Betman be done, but anyone who was a casual fan will disappear and we will be left with Canada and everyone on this board.

(and no, trading bettman for a another lossed season is not worth it)

I agree....the entire season probably won't be cancelled, but I can definitely see a shortened schedule. There's no way they'll come to an agreement in time.

Anyway, if you guys think that the officiating in the NHL is bad, check out this blown call by the refs in the Calder Cup final last night. The loss put the Marlies down 3-0 in the series.

The problem is game officials didn't notice Norfolk had at least one player offside when the puck was shot in. According to AHL rules, the goal should have been disallowed.

But AHL president Dave Andrews said in a statement despite the error, the result will stand. Norfolk can clinch the Calder Cup final by winning the fourth game of the series Saturday afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum.

"We have spoken with Toronto Marlies management and confirmed that a rules interpretation error by the on-ice officials occurred on the Norfolk Admirals' overtime goal during Game 3 of the Calder Cup finals," Andrews said.

He went on to explain that a correct application of the AHL rulebook would have negated the goal.

Kings break the playoff road win record and clinch tonight or are we going back to LA?

I'll take Kings with the clinch, but I expect a helluva game. I also hope it's an entertaining game, or else I might hit up drop in tonight instead.

I sure hope so, for the well-being retailers trying to run a business there. ;)

Welp, so much for that prediction. What an awful, awful play on that first goal by Quick. It's surprising there hasn't been a goal in this series yet due to his miserable puck playing skills. So on to Game 6.

That WAS bad. If you're gonna handle the puck, don't give it to the other team. Ah well, on to the next.

I thought it was pretty amazing how Brodeur reacted when Richards pulled his sweater over his head after that scrum in the crease. He laughed it off with the ref. This guy is having loads of fun and is almost acting like it's a preseason game. He's been doing this for so long that he's capable of totally ignoring the pressure.

This series will go to game 7. Marty has it in him to win the next game.

He's been there, done that... And you can really tell. Nothing gets to the guy anymore.

As for NJ going to seven... It's all going to depend on luck. This series should be over already, but luck has been on NJ's side. In the last two games, LA has hit about 8 or 9 goal posts. (I counted 4 or 5 last night) Not to mention the goals that NJ have scored have mostly been fluke. NJ has scored 7 goals in the Stanley Cup finals; 1 empty net, 2 off of LA players, 1 deflection in front, 1 beauty, 1 loose rebound in front, and 1 where quick gave the puck away. They definitely have not been dominating.

It takes luck to win, but I think their luck is going to run out.

Stuart has been making San Jose his summer home, so he clearly likes the area, and I heard whispers that we may make a play for him but I really don't see what he will do for us..

He was an okay top #4 D in our system, so really a 4-6 in San Jose, I'd guess. Surprised Holland got anything for him as mostly everyone knew he was leaving.

Although he wasn't great, that's now 2 of Detroit's top 4 d-men gone. Suter just got a bit more important to grab. Also if Holmstrom retires, combined with this departure, that's even more money off the books. Ton of room to spend.

Stuey's family still resides here in SJ (and apparently never moved) , so he does spend a good amount of the off-season here. I personally don't think it makes any sense for us-we would only have him for 2-3 years, and then he will retire. And if his contract is of any indicator, he may be asking for 3-4 mill over x amount of years, and I dont know if we will do that.

However, he is a competitor, and we need them, so who knows.

at least they admitted the mistake. NHL would never do such thing (show me the last time NHL released statement saying officials screwed up)

While I enjoy Apple products and the rumors surrounding them, the rest of these forums is just devolving into complete hysteria, so I figured I'd sneak back into the sanctuary of the NHL thread.

Thoughts on Game 6? Can LA finally close it at home? Does NJ push them to the brink? What will Taylor Stevens wear behind the bench? So many important questions to be answered!

The NHL admitted a missed call on April 13, 2012 - less than 2 months ago - when Briere scored a goal against the Pens, but he was offside.

The NHL acknowledged Thursday that a linesman missed an offsides call that led to the Flyers' first goal in Wednesday's playoff game vs. the Penguins. The goal, scored after Danny Briere took a pass a couple of feet past the blue line and skated in alone on net, started Philadelphia on a comeback from a 3-0 deficit that ended with the Flyers winning in overtime.

"There's no other way to explain it but a missed call," NHL senior executive vice president of hockey operations Colin Campbell told The Canadian Press. "We're as upset as Pittsburgh, almost. It's a mistake."

I really think that the Devils will win again tonight and the series will go to game 7. If that happens, I have no idea who will win the Cup.....it could totally go either way.

I stand corrected.

And I have no idea who will win tonight, let alone who would win a Game 7-you could throw gum at a wall and have as much a chance at being correct.
