Good game by PSG and Barca. Not so much the Ref though. Barca's defence again questionable. I wonder when they're going to fix that longstanding issue.

Terrible ref in Munich, too. I mean they're humans, too, but one is always surprised how they manage to appear utterly incompetent and unprofessional again at that level.

I to must echo the comments about PSG vs Barcelona match, as a neutral it was a great game to watch. PSG are far from out of it, Barcelona as mentioned are not good in defense. (they remind me of the Netherlands 1974.:p)

The Bayern vs Juventus I only saw the so called high points, Bayern are through barring a wonder.

The media are going to bait Di Canio until he slips.

I dont understand this part...Fergie doesn't need to rest anybody. They can afford to lose a good handful of league games and still comfortably win the title.

Well, the press/media started the day having a go at Di Canio. Suppose it gives them something to do.

Kagawa - could've survived 30 minutes. :) If Lewandowski turns up, they may work well together. ;)

Barcelona v PSG - Ibrahimovic to stink again?

Cheers,
OW

Beckham looked like the old man that he is. He obviously still has his touch but zero pace, and he isn't much of a physical presence either. The media machine can only paper over the cracks so much

Barcelona were a ways off their best, but PSG were lucky all the same and they are out of their depth despite their wealth. I can't see Barca failing to win this tie, even without Messi - though his absence is probably Barca's biggest worry. According to the latest reports, the injury will only keep him out for one league match though, which is no big deal if true.

Haven't seen the game, but boy, was I surprised that Becks could start! Thought he's the dangerous free-kick / corner-machine for the last 10-15mins when they need a goal or two. Would be surprised as well seeing Barca kicked out by PSG.

Let's all cross fingers for BVB doing well this evening. :D
That is if you ain't supporting Malaga...

Lord Blackadder,

Did Beckham ever have pace? It's not been much of a problem; unlike most, he rarely needs to get beyond the defender to play the required ball. Put in a few tackles, wasn't great but was better than Ibrahimovic.

twietee,

Beckham - 10 minutes - Arsenal could do with him for the times Wenger gets desperate and shoves Per M up front / England plan C - booting it to Carroll. :)

Is Isco available for Malaga? Only seen a few clips, may be limited to them, seems the ball is getting away from him after his first touch but he will beat the opponent with the second.

Also tonight - Jose v Drogba.

Cheers,
OW

I think both were lucky not to get more goals against.

I wonder if all those hormones, drugs that were given to Messi to try and have him develop more normally aren't helping him recover faster/stay healthy, or if he's just that lucky, his last serious injury cost him 2 matches if i recall, and this might cost him 1 if the latest reports are true.

He was never speedy to begin with, but during the last few matches I've seen him in for the Galaxy he was almost stationary. He'll probably be able to strike a free kick wonderfully till he's 60 and he knows how to pick out a pass. But when will he reach the point where that is no longer worth a roster spot? Ibra did not look good, so in that respect I agree with you.

He has had a remarkably injury-free career.

true messi not only has managed to stay rather injury free so far but also is able to play gazillion of games per year without really tiring out either

on Beckham: in his time at Manchester United he sure wasn't a "slow player" ... average but he alsways knew managed to start sprinting a few moments earlier than others

meanwhile Kroos, the other stationary free kick and corner machine, seems to be out for the rest of the season

today is going to be interesting how Malaga will be handling Dortmund .. the better matchup than Real vs Galatasaray ... The turks simply are too fragile in the back IMHO. (Up front their are always dangerous though) They barely made it through against Schalke who missed countless of opportunities.

About Kroos: I pity him, had a great season so far. Hope he comes back soon enough for Pep. But Bayern certainly got lucky this season: Badstuber injuried, now Kroos, Gomez part time (well, who knows)...just when they vastly improved on depth of their squad.

Was he doubtful? Haven't read anything suggesting so. Will be interesting who snatches him up next season. Today's a showcase, I expect some grand stuff.

Agreed on pairing Becks and Per! Much kick, no rush but plenty of goals.

My Dutch is extremely ropey, but it looks like there could be a chance that the mighty PEC Zwolle could grace European competition next season.

(Blue) fingers crossed. :)

It's not a certainty but if the Netherlands gets an extra place via the Fair Play system, and PEC don't pick up any more cards, red or 2xyellow, and they manage to keep above both AZ 67 and RKC Waalwijk.:D

Then they will indeed take part in European football, I must warn you this can be a two edged weapon, as this will bring extra costs to the club. Playing in Europe has been the joker for many teams from the lower places in the past.

Just getting the stadium up to European standards, and the the extra cost of policing the matches.(UEFA fines if anything goes wrong at the home games, it can be a big head pain)

Hang on – how the heck does the Dutch league qualify through the fair play system? You guys have been averaging two or three red cards a game over there! :D ;)

First off I want to say that I did not want to 'Rain on your parade' about your good news.

Since the winter stop the red cards have started to slow down. But yes if we are in the running for Fair Play the other leagues must be like war zones:D

----------

Also some what about football news, I see that Joey Barton managed to get himself into trouble, without even getting on the pitch.:D

Football will have special teams before he retires; a railway porter will wheel him on then press his head down for the kick.

Isco - doubtful - me being too lazy to search re suspension/injury. Where he ends up? Arsenal have a Malaga connection.

Strange game last night; some excitement, but poor finishing and poor clearances. The stars were at the same level, mediocre.

The Real Madrid game - Benzema not sent off. Ramos :D.

Fizzoid - kits - good to see 'No actual tigers were harmed...'.

oscillatedwildly, Isco to Arsenal would be a big bingo I'd say. Great player and finally one worthy of hope for the club. Besides Mertesacker, of course. Doubt it, but still. Emirates connection?

Yesterday was a strange game. Since I know how BVB played last two years interantionally, I was quite excited till the end, because normally they'd have lost it.
Terrible to watch for so. unrelated I'd guess.

For the kit lovers out there, this probably isn't something you don't already know, but the BBC today posted an article about kits:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22004803

Looked through the slide show, and this for me is always how I wish the Netherlands to be kitted out.

It's an interesting commentary on the rise of corporate power. I couldn't see Adidas making a two-stripe kit for any mortal these days, regardless of their wealth or fame...
I have a replica Dutch '74 away shirt, and it only has two stripes on the sleeves. This may be due either to clever attention to detail or the fact that it's not an Adidas manufactured replica. :p

Mind, you couldn't imagine a player nowadays having such a demand indulged, despite them arguably having more power over their 'image rights' than was the case decades ago.
