In MLS news, today it was announced the 20th team in the league will be another New York team owned by Manchester City with minority owner New York Yankees.
I'd have been more impressed if they'd have linked up with York City – however, I'm reasonably sure that their owners aren't as wealthy or as influential as their Manchester counterparts... ;)

Götze is anounced to definitely not be playing the CL-Final, because of his injury.
It's a pitty, not because I would like to see him play, but because if they loose one will always ask, if it had been different if Götze had played.

see: fifa news

Women's Football Bundesliga:
Wolfsburg winning the DFB-Finale against Potsdam with 3:2. The first half was a bit like "Rumpelfussball", then the second was very action-some with better technique shown and really entertaining. Wolfsburg went 3:0 (1:0) and Potsdam managed to get 2 goals after Wolfsburgs 3rd goal (one was a penalty though).
Interestingly Wolfsburg's men's Coach Dieter Hecking was there (wonder, if they are told to by the Management), aside the usual officials of Football and politics.
Audience was 14.269 (took place in the 1. FC Köln men's stadium (Podolskis club before Arsenal ;)).
I wished to find a video of the first goal, an assist with the back-heel over the shoulder. Unfortunately on my PowerPC-Mac I can't watch the content, maybe they show it here http://www.sportschau.de/fussball/frauenfussball/videowolfsburggewinntdasdouble100.html

It's a real shame. Götze, if healthy, would obviously make a big difference and Dortmund are already underdogs to begin with. More and more, it's feeling like an inevitable Bayern win. The player they stole from Dortmund won't even be available for his almost-former team just when they need him most.

Pretty so. But at the same time, I feel like the more of a underdog Dortmund becomes, the better for them. Bayern being self assured of their trophy is always good. They do not only look arrogant, they are deep down to the bone.

And playing Götze only at 75% (at max) fitness and his somewhat awkward (psychological) situation right now may have been a bad decision anyway (remember Messi first game against Munich). Fingers still crossed for a tight outcome. And the right outcome. ;)

I agree about the folly of playing Götze if not fit. If he picked up a big injury it could delay or scupper his move to Bayern and that would cost Dortmund a lot of money.

Bayern are the better team but Dortmund are definitely good enough to win it and I very much hope they do.

60 is far too young. Players of that era played hard and lived harder.

Finally, UEFA gets something right:

Uefa will announce on Friday that the Europa League winners will get a place in the following season's Champions League from the 2015-16 season.

I can't believe it took them so long to figure this out. Back when European cups were straight knockout competitions with less teams involved I would have said this was not necessary. But now that the formats are so bloated there needs to be more reward for playing all those Europa League matches.

This could actually make the Europa League very important. Teams like Fulham or Aston Villa (for example) might now have a realistic path to the Champions League.

On the other hand, one might see this as further dilution of the Champions League. Still if you look at the winners of the UEFA Cup/Europa League over the last decade, they are all pretty good teams.

It's something I've wanted to happen for a while. What I'd also like to see is when teams fail in the CL, then they DON'T get entered into the EL!

Indeed, and I'd say that the Europa League winners are more deserving of a Champions League spot than the fourth-best team in a national league – after all, they've actually won something.

I agree even though this would really hurt Dutch teams.

UEFA: New drug-testing plans and 10-match bans for racism
Uefa will retrospectively study 900 doping samples given since 2008 as it attempts to combat use of performance-enhancing drugs in European football.
Though it will not lead to future punishments, the governing body intends to identify the scale of steroid use.
Uefa will also carry out blood testing in more competitions from 2013-14, and consider using biological passports.
A proposal for 10-match European bans for players and officials found guilty of racism has also been ratified.
For racist incidents involving spectators, a partial stadium closure for the first offence and a full stadium closure for a second, coupled with a fine of 50,000 euros (£42,800), will be applied.

It does seem as if UEFA is slowly waking up to the problems in the sport at last.

^ Mark your calendars football fans...UEFA has finally discovered that racism exists...in 2013.

It's a positive move all the same, and hopefully handshakes will not be required punishments.

And that's the point...Europa League Champions are champions.

CL Final 2015 to be played in Berlin. Not sure why it has to be Germany again, but still. AWESOME!

Hope I can get tickets a second time then. Anyone from you to visit Wembley this time?

Re BVB - FCB: Only thing speaking for Dortmund is their striker (although almost certainly signed already by Bayern). Lewandowsky sky high above Gomez or Manzdukic imho, and last couple of finals were all won by strikers. It's a rather small straw, but I'll grasp at it nevertheless.

At least it isn't in Qatar.

That's too subtle for me. AWESOME! I say :D

How much do you think it will be? I saw people last year in Munich in front of the stadium paying up to 4000€ for a ticket...those poor rich Munich losers...:D

I got a regular ticket for about 400€...think you have better chances if you apply for most expensive category.

Update: Wolfsburg's got the tripple. Today they won the Women's CL against the much favoured team of Olympique Lyonnaise, winning 1:0 with a (most probably wrongly) given penalty for a hand in front of the french goal. While a penalty being the reason for the win might not be satisfying, they played almost equal overall, so the lead had to come with something like that, perhaps. Though the french had about two thirds more ball possesion, Wolfsburg did a good job overall, playing nice passes and defending smart. It should have been very exhausting (though you could not see it). Wolfsburg played 4-4-1-1 against Lyonnais' 4-3-3, which resulted in Wolfsburg running forth and back all over the field, while the french seemed to be more spread. I was also surprised that Magan Rapinoe plays a different style/role at Lyon than in the US-national team. Well that's a sign of a good player adapting to the stile of the different teams, I guess.
Though I got to admit I did see only the summary shrinked to 60min later (missing it live), because I was all the day thinking about not missing the men's relegation of Hoffenheim against Kaiserslautern. :)

what the dickens
is this an answer to my post?

btw. I heard a sun journalist talking about Dortmund. He said, if the management goes on like this, they can get as big as Manchester United. An interesting comparison... well I guess he meant the financial side of it. ;)

In MLS news. Chicago Fire trade Robbie Rogers rights to LA Galaxy for Mike Magee. As a Fire fan I cant help but think that LA really took it in the shorts on this trade. Magee might have a few years age on Rogers but has always been a solid player. I hope he can resolve Chicago's goal scoring problems.

In other Fire news, Bakary Soumare is back as well. I was pretty upset when the Fire originally traded him because he was a pretty solid defender. Hopefully he can be the player he once was on the back line.

I still think the season as a whole though is a loss.
