IMHO i think it actually helped Dortmund to have Götze off the pitch: Grosskreutz can run forever and worked excellent in closing gaps in the back, because of that the midfield always seemed too crowded for anything

but that was to be expected with the likes of Bender, Grosskreutz, Kuba and Martinez, Müller, Mandzukic on the pitch ... with those hard worker it always feels like there are somehow 'extra' players on the pitch

Now that PSG have taken a hard line against Madrid poaching Ancelotti, Madrid might want to consider an old acquaintance who has offered himself to take over the helm.

Not that they have many options now mind.

Who says Arsenal didn't win any silverware this season. 2013 FA Cup Winners. :p

Looked like a cracking game too.
It's the 7th FA title in a row for them, despite 2012.

---------------
On the newspage of my internet provider, there is an article about the referee of the Dortmund-Bayern CL Final.
In an interview he gave the gazetta dello sport, he said he had tears in his eyes and was moved when he saw, that the Dortmund fans applauded Bayern when they got the cup (for he is used to fighting and racist chants in the seria a ;)).
He also found that it was a fair match and that he did a really good job. The article says, he is known for giving a lot yellow cards in the seria a. He also said, that he waited for Collina and he and the team was lauded by him.

I appreciate Collina a lot, but how he can "laude" him is a secret to me. Maybe the referee mistook that for his own work, but Collina actually meant the referee team ;)

Over the weekend Go Ahead Eagles from Deventer won promotion to the Eredivisie.

This reignites one of the oldest derbys in Dutch Football, after 17 years PEC Zwolle and Go Ahead Eagles.

http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/IJsselderby

Over this summer GHE will have to get their stadium up to standard for the Eredivisie. It is one of those old style stadiums, built in the middle of the working class housing area. It's like a trip back to the 1980's.

What a bittersweet season for Wigan. Some say that Martinez is overrated, but I'm sure that Wigan fans will be nervously waiting to see who replaces a man who kept them in the Premier League for quite a while and finally won major silverware too.

The Falcao move is a bit disappointing. Monaco are trying to build a trophy-winning side via the now-popular "Rich Billionaire Owner Strategy". European football has become a little chess game between a small number of fabulously wealthy people.

Rafa Benitez is now the manager at Napoli. His last stint in Serie A did not go well, hopefully this time things will go more smoothly.

Well, Kolo Toure to Liverpool is a done deal it seems

I'm a little bit surprised Rogers didn't go for someone younger, but I suppose he does have plenty of experience.

It's a lateral move it seems, rather than a big upgrade. Skrtel got totally frozen out by Rogers though, so obviously we need to sell him. I would have liked to see a younger player in myself, but we still have the room and time to ams such a move this summer.

Looks like Everton have issued a public apology to fans for the god awful new crest design. Unfortunately it will be used through the 13/14 season then be redesigned next year with fan input. Thank goodness.

^ I like that '83 thingy!

Read some talk about Liverpool's intersted in Papadopolus of Schalke. Am a bit of a fan myself, but strikes me a bit expensive probably plus doubts about his fitness. So Kolo maybe a good move, but on the other hand...didn't impress me much whenever I saw him.

United have open talks with Barca in order to land Fabregas which is interesting if indeed it does happen.

Although moving to United is now no longer the trophy guarantee it used to be. So it might be end up being another dead end for him.

Also, Bale's agent has effectively told Madrid to come and get him.

Thiago?

---

Looks like the Everton tower has given up on the diet.

Cheers,
OW

Thiago is keeping mum but is also another target. Seems United are keen to sort out that dire midfield this summer. Unfortunately Monaco, PSG and Madrid are flexing their financial muscles.

Did someone see the Germany vs Ecuador match?

----
read that Hoeneß said, Gardiola didn't want Götze and had wished Neymar, but Bayern said they had bad experiences with brasilian players and so decided to buy Götze, against Gardiolas wishes. It's a shame, if they do not see him as a top player, why then take him away from Dortmund.

for a club it's always a risk taking a south american player who hasn't played in europe for a single season yet ...
also the price for Neymar, because of his pre-contract with Barcelona, would have been staggering...

Götze already played and scored in the Bundesliga enough, knows half the squad from the national team, speaks german, less drama personality etc. ... simply a safer bet

i'm sure Neymar was on their radar but even without him they have so many attacking options: ... Ribery, Müller, Kroos, Robben, Götze, Shaqiri, Mandzukic, Gomez, Pizarro and perhaps even Lewandowski ?
i somehow doubt Guardiola is crying himself to sleep

Yea, I was rooting for Ecuador! Awesome that they made the second goal...but have to admit that I only noticed there was a game today because my girlfriend wanted to pause the BluRay yet hit the source button and switched to ARD  :D

Edit: who would have thought that Ecuador ranks tenth worldwide

Edit II: uff, 8.3s for the first goal? not bad, have to have a look at youtube

Edit III: and on sunday going against Klinsi and his boys...I'll definitely root for Ger in that game :D

USA 2-4 Belgium

I actually attended this one. a hot, muggy night in Cleveland and a tepid USA performance. No movement off the ball, too many giveaways and individual mistakes. Beasley earned his 100th cap and was the best player out there for us. Benteke, Lukaku and Fellaini are huge in person.

Oh well, they are 14 places ahead of us the FIFA ranking.

As for Suarez, I'm ok with losing him so long as he's adequately replaced.
