I thought this was quite funny:

Jose Mourinho has criticised the ethics of modern football following his departure as manager of Real Madrid:

"It is a problem in current society and football in particular - working as groups, not individually."

[...]

Mourinho also spoke of how Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement has affected him, saying he feels more pressure now he is regarded as one of the more experienced coaches.

"Twenty titles in all the countries I have coached in is a lot. I have learned that, no matter what, I want to win more times, but I've accepted that losing is part of my professional life," he said.

"I have been at the top of my profession for over 10 years. I feel more and more responsible. The younger coaches expect it of me and I cannot disappoint."

On the subject of Mourinho, Perez has confirmed what we all know, his return to Stamford Bridge.

On another note, it seems Fabregas is unsettled in Barca...even more so with the arrival of Neymar. If he returns to England he'd apparently prefer to return to the Emirates.

We also apparently have first dibs on him for £25m. To which i say...

Meanwhile, Italy continue to advance their reputation.

There's some talk about Dortmund signing Podolski. Not too keen about it either.

As in EquIpo?

Now off to watch some footy. Predicting lots of beautiful goals for Germany...:D

Meanwhile, plenty of goals for twietee in the USA match.

:D

Well, no risk no fun. Counts for both: pitch and posts.

Dempsey looked good, as does the English defense so far. Pity you won't win with a 0:0. The Fantasy folks know it already, but I'm a sucker for Oscar.

Germany played in the first half just like everybody played basketball/volleyball in school: putting in zero effort while hoping that the teacher gets sick of the miserable playing and decides to switch to football or field hockey...

i can still claim with pride that i have never scored at basketball unless by accident

I'm very pleased to see the USA put in an improved performance after how sloppy they were against an admittedly very good Belgium. Actually winning the match against Germany was just icing on the cake, even if it was a Germany "B" squad playing away from home. I would argue that a German B squad is probably better than the USA, at least on paper. Good to see Jozy and Clint doing what they're paid to do. I wonder how the German press will react? (I'm guessing they'll simply point out that Germany played a B squad).

The biggest problem under Klinsmann remains a lack of consistency. We have beaten Italy, Germany and Mexico in friendlies under Klinsy, but we have also lost to Jamaica and Honduras in world cup qualifiers during the same period (though we did draw against Mexico at Azteca - a big result for us).

The English press reaction to the Brazil match is so negative in its tone you'd think England got hammered if you didn't know the score....on the other hand, the Brazilians seem even more upset.

^ I kinda like what he did here - never heard it before - (you could def call it superfluous or crap, but still):

Jose on Wenger
: "Wenger has a real problem with us and I think he is what you call in England a voyeur. He is someone who likes to watch other people. There are some guys who, when they are at home, have this big telescope to look into the homes of other people and see what is happening. Wenger must be one of them - and it is a sickness." Gave me a good laugh anyway.

The bar will be set lower for Mourinho at Chelsea. Is this the first step backwards in his so-far meteoric rise to managerial superstardom?

Bernstein's call for more English players is totally at odds with the Premier League's fundamental philosophy of outsourcing for money and talent. It couldn't possibly ring more hollow. In terms of the way the game is run, we should probably all hope for a long spell of German dominance; only a demonstration that the "right way" is better in terms of results will reduce the influence of the sheiks, Russian robber barons, American tycoons and big corporations in the game. I'm not holding my breath - and, of course, we Yanks are walking our own path with MLS, a nearly pre-Bosman league.

I still love that voyeur quote - especially since it is a French loanword being used by a Portuguese as an English expression describing a Frenchman. :D

He's a real European, isn't he!

Also agree about the step backwards, although there is not much left after Real in terms of superstardom. Think he could do quite fine, though. If it wasn't for Barca, he'd have been quite succesful in Madrid. But seems he (his ego) struggled over some other big egos (how ironic), with Chelsea there is a major break happening and the only other chief I know of is called Abram...so at least he can pimp all his players as he likes. :D

In a way, it can only be downhill for Mourinho from here, since he's already won everything there is to win - except a World Cup or a Euro Championship. However, like Ferguson or Redknapp, I see Mourinho as a club manager through and through. International management would not be his strong suit.

Still, Mou looks set to be around for many years yet, and I am sure we will see him at the helm of a number of other top clubs in the future.

Wenger speaks of interest in Rooooonay. I think he's going to be wickedly expensive and not worth the money. What do you think, Daneoni?

After having watched Mignolet at the USA-Belgium friendly in Cleveland, I am comfortable seeing him as a replacement for Reina. Still just talk at the moment though, and he's wanted by a few clubs.

I'm probably in the minority here but i actually don't want him. Sure he could still do a job for you...but i think his best days are behind him and is sure to be overpriced for what you get as an English player.

I'd rather we go all in for Higuain or settle for Jovetic/Benteke...preferrably the latter since he has EPL experience. Use the remaining change to buy a decent RB and/or LW.

He'll have to reduce his wage demands for starters. I doubt any other club would be willing to pay what he's making at the moment. For the money, there are other at least equally good options.
