He'll have to reduce his wage demands for starters. I doubt any other club would be willing to pay what he's making at the moment. For the money, there are other at least equally good options.

Maybe PSG?

I, for one, would love United to cash him out now. I don't even know that a change in scenery will rekindle his competitive fires and/or work ethic. Play Chicharito more (anyone else notice the vast improvements he made in his all around game this season?) and take the proceeds and invest in other areas of the squad.

It was a lovely few days seeing United linked to Alcantara and Fabregas in the press. The former isn't strictly a player United needs, though if someone of that quality comes available at a good price, you do want to get them if you can. Fabregas, however, would be absolutely perfect. I do get the feeling the best United will do in the midfield this summer is Strootman and/or Fellaini, who would be incremental improvements but not exactly game-changers.

I'll try to be as diplomatic as possible, Rooney is only considered a world class footballer in a country that last performed well on the worlds stage in 1966.:p

Still not very diplomatic. :D

His goal last sunday was pure class but, I was very surprised to learn that a lot of Bavarians would have loved to see him ging to Munich when there was some talk about that some weeks ago. And him going to PSG: isn't there a huge tax problem coming down this year in France (not that Becks quitted because of that and Ancelotti as well, of course not, just sayin')? Monaco has it's own tax laws - more super rich friendly. Not saying that Falcao and the likes went there for mere material causes, of course not.

Navas likely to move to City btw.

Goal of the day: Wayne Rooney (England) vs Brazil
[Monday, June 03, 2013 ]
A wonder goal from Wayne Rooney helped England claim a 2-2 draw in their glamour friendly against Brazil at the newly re-opened Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro.

Wayne Rooney shoots to score England's second goal against Brazil

Brazil dominated the first half on Sunday, but they were kept at bay by England goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Fred opened the scoring for Brazil in the 57th minute before England drew level through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ten minutes later.

The Three Lions continued to show enterprise and they were rewarded again 12 minutes from time when Rooney got the second with a wonderful solo goal.

The Manchester United striker picked the ball up just inside the Brazil half before before surging forward and curling an excellent shot into the top corner.

But the lead lasted just four minutes as Paulinho showed great athleticism to volley beyond Hart as the home side claimed a deserved draw.

"Both English goals were beautiful, Rooney's one deflected in off Fernando's back, it was a bit lucky," Brazil goalkeeper Júlio César told Globo Esporte.

I always thought that a Deflection makes it an own goal?:p

PSG not only have the cash to afford Rooney, but also have a recently opened vacancy for a good looking, articulate Englishman...

OMG they've signed John Terry.

You're quite harsh..:D ;)

Haven't noticed it before to be honest, though. So yeah, Booo-ney!

re deflection, it is my understanding that the deflection is counted as an own goal when a significant change in direction (onto the goal I guess) is involved...but I found the FA decisions quite odd at times.

Waaaah :mad::mad::mad:

I hate that goal, made playing soccer with Argentinians quite unbearable. Not a chance to reach the ball? Grab it with your hands. Anyone's complaining? Tell him about the hand of god with a fat smile in your face. Then continue playing as if nothing has happened. Sometimes I wish I could hand out yellow cards while playing with friends...lol

Indeed, but you're not questioning his dashing good looks?

I can imagine him marshalling the PSG defence in the manner of an Englishman on a foreign holiday – lots of pointing and shouting SLOWLY... IN... ENGLISH... so Johnny Foreigner understands. :p

Oh ****! I laughed out lout at this....while at work and drinking coffee :)D). Everybody's looking now what's the deal here.

I thought that the rule was now, if the shot wasn't goal bound and is deflected in, it's an own goal?

Yeah, that's what I meant. My English = poor.

But also goalbound leaves quite some room for interpretation, not everybody shoots straight at the target ...> Rooney last sunday (bad example, Iknow) or me every Thursday. :p

Just followed some decisions because of FantasyFootball and was a bit surprised at times.

Ugh, Sturrigde out for months. Hope he recovers soon, I'll need ya!

Why is Reina on the move actually? Too old?

It used to be 'significant change in direction' but again, define significant change. Personally, if it comes off an opposing player and goes in the net, it should be an own goal, end of!

^ hmmm, ok. Coincidence that I just used those words myself, I meant it the way you described it. Personally, I only care because I play some online manager... :D ...in the end it just a goal, although one that won't become goal of the year (well, who knows).

Not sure if I follow your strict logic, what about goalies then? Producing lots of OGs every season then...;)

PSG could afford Rooney but they can also afford better players who would probably be cheaper. They might go for him just for the headlines but it would not be the smartest footballing move.

I see a difference between a shot that is unknowingly deflected into the net by a defender (who can't get out of the way of a shot or has it hit him while his back is turned) and a defender mis-playing the ball into his own net...but in the end it's best to keep it as simple as possible. I would rather see a deflected shot be awarded as an own goal.

A fit Rooney is world class, the problem is he has been fit for one tournament re England and is spending too much time out of shape at club level.

Cheers,
OW
It's not just Rooney, I normally disregard everything from the Sun newspaper.

RIO FERDINAND has made an astonishing admission over the failings of England’s golden generation.
The Manchester United defender was part of a group of players tipped to take the world by storm over the last decade.
But despite boasting talents such as David Beckham, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney, the Three Lions did not even come close to fulfilling their potential.
Ferdinand wrote on Twitter: “[The] So-called ’Golden Generation’ obviously wasn’t because we won nothing!
“Great players don’t always make great teams.”
Ferdinand, 34, also waded into the heated debate over the tactics of the current England team.
Former Lions hero Gary Lineker launched a scathing attack against the set-up of Roy Hodgson’s side following the 1-1 friendly draw with the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday.

I liked that generation. Plenty of remarkable talents and players. Don't know if golden is appropriate, but the Portugese one haven't won anything either and I still wouldn't question the denotation.
