I thought RVP left one team because he was tired of carrying them?

Utd the new Arsenal. Take away RVP and you're left with the ordinary.

RVP deserves a bollocking, what the hell was he thinking! Also missed some sitters. He had a decent game when Kagawa and Carrick were poor; one match.

Ordinary; none of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Spurs have impressed, all have big weaknesses.

Cheers,
OW

Good win+clean sheet. Even though Liverpool had a pen shout, but Suarez does himself no favours by diving earlier on.

Looks like we didn't really need M'Villa or similar. Diaby and Arteta bossed central midfield. I hope they both stay fit. Cazorla and Podolski also seem to be finding an understanding.

Sterling and Allen the stand out players for Liverpool.

I don't know why, but this match felt like an absolute punch in the stomach to me. I have no confidence in Liverpool's ability to score goals and win games. We pass well most of the time, our defense is good, but teams don't fear us. Suarez will get a goal every second or third game, but that's it apart from Agger/Skrtel on corners.

I like Rogers' overall philosophy, and Liverpool maintained a lot of possession at times against a possession team. We need to keep working at this system and not give up...

...But where the hell are goals going to come from with this team? Suarez and Gerrard were very poor today, very sloppy on the ball. The second goal was off a good shot more than a Reina error. Howard Webb has been reading The Sun too much about Suarez - he sells fouls too hard, I know that, but Vermaelen got very lucky once or twice. He guessed on the Sterling penalty shout - correctly, as it turns out, but still...

I think I'm ready to give up on this season in terms of expectations. I'm just going to let Rogers work with the team and hope that by the end of the season there is some visible improvement. I have a sinking feeling in my stomach though.

Great result there – I'd looked at the stats and form pre-match to see if there was anything wager-worthy, but Montreal's recent fine form made me cautious.

We shouldn't expect anything less than a late winner from America's Hardest Working Team™. :D

Columbus fans are all waiting for the other shoe to drop; surely we can't keep this up? But we've had a pretty decent team for the last couple seasons - our major failing has been offense ever since Schelotto left. But now we have Higuain, who is a real creator. I think we'll make the playoffs now, and winning the conference is no longer out of the question. I'm even more excited about next season...Higauin is only 27.

Higuain has been a real treat for Columbus. The east is going to be a tight race. Big 3 points coming up today for Chicago who recently lost Pappa to the dutch league on a transfer. Hope this doesn't de-rail the season for Chicago.

I hope it does. ;) Chicago have had a quietly strong season, but the league is so tight in terms of parity that losing Pappa could be a big blow for the Fire, just as signing Higauin has transformed the Crew. In both cases the teams' depth will determine where we end up when the playoffs start up - we need to rest Higuain at some point, and Chicago have to hope that Pappa's loss can be covered by contributions from the bench.

Unfortunately, not. I have to work that day and I'm taking a big vacation in a couple of weeks, so I can't justify the time off. I'll be following online, though. They do a good job of broadcasting free game streams on the internet.

That's too bad. Best of luck in the final! I made a promise with my brother that if Columbus make it to the MLS Cup final we will try to get there.

I voted "like" on the shirt. I agree with Jaffa's criticisms, but anything that looks that much like the Argentina shirt can't be bad, right? :D

Chicago looks to be on the verge of going back into 3rd tonight thanks to a quick goal scoring start by Patrick Nyarko followed up with a nice Paladini re-direct.

FSG have done BR a disservice. Suarez is simply not an out an out finisher and needs to play off someone and Borini isn't a goal machine and is essentially just a winger.

I think LFC need to go and hunt Owen or Drogba down. Both free agents and both know where the goal is.

Otherwise they're in serious trouble. Actually the same might hold true for Arsenal. I'm worried about Giroud and would love it if Wenger brought in Drogba for the season. The team would be truly complete.

He's the brother of the Real Madrid Higuain, is he not?

The elder brother, yes. Obviously the magic runs in the family. ;)

Well, that's the conventional wisdom...without having more info, it certainly seems like something has gone awry with our transfer plans this summer. We need another attacker - two senior strikers is not enough. Also, we need Gerrard/Borini to step up their offensive production.

FSG have announced they will not be doing quick fixes (Owen, Dempsey).

Kenny is to blame for the current situation. He wasted a lot of money on mostly average talent and now the club is suffering the consequences.

Still think LFC should've brought Rafa back not Kenny. Unlikely to be in this mess if they did.

Just echoing what others have said really, but Liverpool certainly need some help for Suarez up front because as daneoni said, Borini is essentially a winger, and when you're bringing on Downing to increase your goal threat, you know things are amiss!

I believe the Dempsey deal hinged on them offloading Carroll either on loan or sold, but he clearly wasn't keen on going, and by the time a deal was done, Spurs had already gazumped Liverpool's offer.

Haven't seen the game..how did Sahin play? Was he deep-playing 8 again?

Only saw the highlights on MotD2 and don't remember his name being mentioned other than in the starting 11 :p

Yeah, I can imagine. Was pretty surprising when I read that he played starting11..they must be pretty desperate.

Speaking about being desperate, can't see why anyone here should care about that info, but I'll post it nevertheless:

The most important derby takes place this afternoon: Union Berlin vs Hertha BSC so if some of you are inspired by or curious about what the heck Football-Trash © could be..here it comes!

Bah. I mentioned rumblings about this a few days back, but the FA have confirmed that Nike are taking over as Official Polyester Rag Provider for the England team. The first swoosh-emblazoned apparel will be out next spring.

:(

Neither have had great starts to the season – who would you pick out as the likely winner this afternoon?

that is a shame.

UMBRO have been killing it lately with their designs.

But they make such nice advertisments...:( Like this one...feat. the true Ronaldo!

In my opinion, the Umbro kits are far superior. The all-white kit worn at the 2010 is pretty much close to perfection for an England kit, I reckon. It's also nice to have an English company (albeit a foreign owned one) doing the national team's kit.

I'd have Umbro back doing Hull City's kits in a heartbeat.

Liverpool don't make my life easy at all. Not only was the traffic into town on Sunday an utter nightmare but they didn't even turn up - at least not mentally. I'll give it to Brendan, we're dominating the ball in terms of possession and I generally (I say that lightly) like the style of play. However how can we ever envisage ourselves in the top 4 (even 6!) if we don't create any chances?

Getting rid of big Andy has been a joke all on it's own. Why on earth would a manager ever let a player go without having a replacement? It doesn't matter how likely it is. If it's not on paper, don't make your move.

Quite like m'Lord, there is a feeling in my stomach. I just can't work out if it's a short-term bug or something due to make me sick for the foreseeable future.

It may not all be doom & gloom for Liverpool. You have some new players AND a new manager with new ideas. It's going to take some time for that to all come together, but I still think there's a striker issue.

Top 4? No chance. Top 6? I'd say there's a good chance if the striker issue is addressed

I was solely writing about the quality of their advertisment(s), not the quality of their plastic kits..;)

and when I was just about to start the usual mourning...our most challenged player Wagner scores! Keep 'em coming! Keep 'em coming!

Hulk signs for Zenit in a deal worth €40m. Ditto for Witzel.

Shame really, seems like a waste to me. Would've liked to see him (Hulk) in the EPL or La Liga but as is common in contemporary football, he went where the £££££ is.

Hertha of course, what a silly question!
But if I would bet my hard earned money I'd say Draw ;)

And that's why I never place any bets!

The expected ugly 1:2 away win! That gives us rank 6 and the Euro-League qualification.
No wait, wrong league..

All the best teams play in the second tier. :)

:)

But I have to admit that I liked watching them playing against Milan, Chelsea and the unforgettable remis against Barca during their CL rally.
The Olympiastadium was shining back then...ah, those sweet memories...
