Well, I guess the Midlands is a reasonable meeting point for most of us UK based pie lovers :)

And they do look tasty!

Look on the bright side – at least Scotland have qualified for next year's World Cup. :)

Assuming World Cup 2014 has been cancelled (or Scotland don't qualify) the next major championships will be Euro 2016, 18 years since our last jolly to France. That's an entire generation of fans who haven't been to a major championship. An entire generation who don't know what it's like to give Stan Collymore a good slapping in a pub.

The Kidderminster pie looks like a Parmo!

On a serious note though, it would be interesting to hear from our non-British regulars how the costs stack up against what they pay. If I fancied popping along to see your local side play, how much would a ticket set me back?

In Columbus, season tickets range from $234-$683 (£144-£422), and you can get a match day ticket for almost any section of the stadium for most games, with the prices ranging from $23-$50 (£14-£30).

The concession stands sell beer, pizza, bratwurst, and a couple other highly processed and overpriced food items. The beer is not particularly cheap, about $7.50 (£4.60) for a 22oz. But we do have Buck a Brat night once a year, where beers and brats are each just $1.

Parking is within spitting distance of the stadium (there is really no public transport to it), and costs $10 (£6ish) if I recall correctly. Since I live 150 miles from the stadium I have to factor in 5 hours of driving time and roughly one full tank of fuel into my gameday costs.

The 700g pies are 'more like a dinner' according to one full-tummed match goer. I propose a forum outing. :D

They look tasty, but 700g - a pound and quarter each? Wow. That is a hefty meal.

O
And do you like pie? :)

I'll have another slice as well if you don't mind. Your famous cucumber sandwiches were obviously eyed quite too closely by Mr Patchyderm.

Glad this weekend will be some real competition again.

If anyone here is interested whether Hertha signed contract with Kevin Pezzoni or not:

Wait for it.

They didn't.

On the plus side, you've had a Wrestlemania!

Which team or teams do you follow, rtues-d2? And do you like pie? :)

do tell rtues-d2...

I thought that article was pretty interesting. The comparison here in the US though would have to be American Football. The prices are outrageous, especially considering that there's only 8 home games per season! Check out this price list:

For most 4 person families, it'd cost upwards of $500 to attend a game. Sad really. It's a simple game. And it's such a great family outing, but it's so far out of reach of most normal families.

Well I've never had British pie but I do like our fruit pies here in the States and I'm gonna catch a lot of heat for this (most likely than not a response of "typical Yank team to follow". jk I'm sure you lot aren't judgmental) but I've supported Manchester United since the 2005/06 season when I first started watching the game. As for national sides, one would say I had my choices (either the US or Mexico) but I ended up choosing an entirely different country. I ended up choosing England. Not a terrible choice but definitely one that's led to some up and down moments. Like the Euro '08 Qualification tournament. That was definitely a down moment when they lost to Croatia at Wembley.

Clearly Arizona is the new Surrey ;)

In other news, Rodgers has not considered recalling Carroll from his loan spell with West Ham, despite now only having Suarez available as a senior striker, with Borini being out for around 3 months. Doesn't say much for what he thinks of Carroll?

"Nordecke" sounds very familiar but I never heard of that either :D

The Nordecke is the Columbus Crew supporters' section. The name reflects the strong history of German immigration to Columbus. ;)

I think the loan was simply the easiest way to be rid of Carroll. Rogers has shown very little interest in him from day one.

Frankly, based on recent performances, I don't think the loss of Borini changes anything either, since he wasn't scoring to begin with. Still, I hope he heals up and shows better form on his return.

I ended up choosing England

Good grief, I've come across some strange things on internet forums, but are you sure you haven't been spending too long in that Arizona sun? Without a hat? (I can't imagine why anyone would choose to voluntarily put themselves through it...)

ha, especially considering that Mexico was in the mix. I fall for them every single tournament.

A Leeds equaliser at Hillsborough results in a number of their fans on the pitch, Owls 'keeper Chris Kirkland assaulted in his goalmouth and the officials picking up bits of seating from the playing surface.

Well done, Leeds. And well done Sky, for zooming in on Kirkland's attacker as he slithered back into the stand.

Should be pretty easy to identify the little ****.

One good bit of news – the little scumbag was quickly and very publicly identified, his name is currently all over Twitter. Hopefully he'll be getting a knock on his door in the morning from the local constabulary.

In Case someone wants to watch USA-Germany (women) in Chicago and its not aired otherwise:
http://www.zdf.de/ZDFmediathek/beit...nfussball-USA---GER-am-21.10.-live?bc=lve;lv0
(starting 1:00 o' clock German time this night, they will meet a second time on 23rd of Oct. though))

It's interesting for me, because since the World Cup 2011 Germany had some injured to replace by younger players, now that they have fitted themselves in well, they are replaced for the regular players again (after one year) and I am watching to see what the status quo of the team is, having the EuroCup 2013 in mind. (the qualification games were not really telling, since they have none of the strong teams - besides Spain - in their group).

Since I couldn't watch neither the Dortmund "Derby" nor Mainz, this will be my football match for today (well for tonight, I should say). ;)

by daneoni: Chelsea looking really formidable this season.
Wolfsburg looking really "crap-idable" this season :D
