To be fair, the Malaga - Dortmund tie seems a bit open. I can see either going through. Galatasaray haven't got a snowball's chance in hell, and PSG are still a project rather than the finished article.

I also chuckled when I read that PSG's sporting director Leonardo reacted to the draw by proposing to his (TV presenter) girlfriend on-air. She responded by saying they'd talk about it later...that's going to be a rough chat. Hasn't anyone learned from Raymond Domenech?

Ouch.

The feeling is mutual. He's obviously a talented player but he has an attitude problem. Rogers played him out of his preferred position and it put him in a funk. It was a low-risk situation for both parties so it was worth shot and no harm done really.

but he is right about playing out of position... why buy a player which is great on a position (he is one of the rare _young_ deep lying playmakers) and then put him on a position behind the strikers, for which he simply doesn't have the pace
he has an excellent long range pass, which means he is better suited playing with the field in front of him, together with the 2 fast dribblers kagawa and götze and the pacey, endless stamina Lewandowski/ Grosskreutz he was and excellent match

on the other side i would take a guess and add a little home sickness to the mix

Yes, it's a combination of having a legitimate gripe and being young. Of course, few players have the luxury of always playing in their favorite position.

Well done Everton. Confirmed bye bye to City. Fergie will go 15pts clear with 9 games to go.

1 step forward then 2 steps back for Liverpool then.

Also, a proper relegation match between Villa and QPR that.

With all due respect to Southampton, who were the better team and certainly deserved the win, it's a bit of a flukey result. I don't expect the Liverpool to play that badly on a consistent basis. Plus, Southampton are fighting for survival and desperately needed the points. They were motivated.

Fortunately for us, we have nothing to play for and no fear of relegation, so the loss is irrelevant. Unfortunately for us, we have nothing to play for and no fear of relegation, so Rogers will be hard pressed to motivate the squad for the remainder of the season.

It was indeed an off-key performance and means nothing in the grand scheme.

Meanwhile Utd did as Utd do and are now officially 15pts clear.

On the Nuri Sahin topic: today was the second game from the beginning for Dortmund and he managed 2 goals and 1 assist in their 5:1 victory and was voted "man of the match"

meanwhile the league is now pretty much over: bayern still has their 20 point lead after a not so convincing 2:1 over Leverkusen while rotating many players

There's no doubt about his talent. It would have been nice to have seen him in his preferred position at Liverpool. Our midfield roster is still a bit crowded, but for whatever reason Sahin just didn't work out for us. Rogers' transfer record for Liverpool is spotty, but as long as he doesn't buy an Andy Carroll I imagine most Liverpool fans have plenty of patience left for the time being.

Spurs lose for the second consecutive week. :D

Only 4pts ahead now and still some tough fixtures incoming for them. Plus we have a game in hand.

Football from the Eredivisie

Friday
PEC Zwolle 3 vs Roda JC 2
PEC got a very useful win which moves them out of the bottom of the table. The match it self was quite lively as the score suggests.:D

Saturday
NEC 1 vs Heerenveen 3
Heerenveen have unlike FC Twente come out of the winter stop a winning team. Once considered likely demotion candidates they are now mid table.

PSV 2 RKC Waalwijk 0
PSV won in a match that will quickly be forgotten.

ADO Den Haag 0 vs Vitesse 4
Vitesse are a club on fire at this moment, mostly thanks to Wilfried Bony.

Sunday

Feyenoord 2 vs Utrecht 1
Feyenoord stay third with this win Utrecht, stay stuck in the mid table.

AZ 2 vs Ajax 3
Ajax keep top position with this win, for long periods in the second half Ajax were under real pressure.

FC Groningen 0 vs FC Twente 3
Twente finally won again.

The top four teams are separated by just 3 points, it hasn't been this close for decades. :D

Is Ferdinand really out of the England Squad because of the "detailed pre-planned training and medical programme he must follow", or is he out because he and Ferg want a little payback for Roy dropping him earlier (plus a lack of motivation to play against San Marino and Montenegro)?

I'm only surprised he didn't pull out for "footballing reasons" and announce it on the 09:26 from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston...

I dunno why Woy considered him to begin with, there was only gonna be one outcome. Bloody waste of time. Hopefully this nails the coffin on his England career.

Some football news from the Netherlands.

PEC Zwolle have a new trainer, Ron Jans signed for two years yesterday. Art Langeler who guided PEC to promotion to the Eredivisie, is to leave at the end of this season to take over at PSV Youth team.

Ron Jans is an old player from PEC, he played it the first team from 1976 till 1982. He had 157 games and scored 44 goals, which for a mid-fielder is not bad. (His father Dries Jans was also a player by PEC)

Yep, on the hallowed plastic. :)

Pa Jans is around about as old as I feel at the moment, having read the news this morning that Michael Owen is to retire at the end of the season. It's easy to scoff at how his career progressed in its final few years, but in his younger fitter days he was a very fine player. Oh but for a pair of sturdy hamstrings.

Yes the hated plastic.

Michael Owen reminds me of Marc Overmars also a player who's career depended on good hamstrings.
