The one thing I'm getting from the last page of posts - other than the fact that NFL types apparently have knee ligaments fashioned from tissue paper - is that Mr mscriv needs to get us up and running fantasy wise for the new season. :)

so who is your favorite team Jaffa?

And the rash of injuries in training camp continues:

Bryan Bulaga, LT Packers (ACL) - This one is a huge blow for the Packers. They already have a questionable o-line.

Dennis Pitta, TE Ravens (hip) - Their #1 tight end.

Dan Koppen, C Broncos (ACL) - Veteran guy they will miss.

Chris Culliver, CB 49ers (ACL) - Out for the year.

Patrick Willis, LB 49ers (hand) - Fractured hand, will probably play with it.

Off to Foxboro to bubble wrap the Patriots..

Ugggh all critical injuries. Patrick Willis is a man beast but I doubt he can play with a bum hand. Sucks for IDP leagues and 49er fans.

Yes I need my ff fix, can't come here soon enough.

Heh - I don't have one, actually. However, the Bengals' helmets are quite, quite ace.

That's what I like to see! Even if you just like the helmets. ;) I really like our chances this year. I think with Dalton and Green each a year older, Giovanni Bernard as a speed back, the defense getting better and better (best in the league for the last 4 games last year). Kirkpatrick actually gets a chance to prove himself and hopefully can become a solid number 2 with Hall on the other side. We'll at least get to the second round and hopefully even get a chance to be one game away from going to the SB. I may be biased, but I can see Cincy easily being the 2 seed in the AFC this year. Other than Denver, no one in the AFC looks like a great team. Pats are destroyed right now, Houston still has a lot to prove, Baltimore lost half of their starters, Pittsburg is old. The Bengals are an up and coming team who are a force to be reckoned with.

But Jaffa, I thought you loved the majestic blue, red, and silver of the New England Patriots? :( We even have England right in our name!

Maybe it's more of a reflection on how bad the Eagles defense is....

;)

I kid. The Pats will still be the Pats. They've shown that they can plug guys in and still have amazing success. I'm still hoping, though, that this is the year the Texans (barring major injuries) get that albatross of it's back. They got one off last year by beating Peyton, now it's time to beat Tom Brady.

The Texans will be good. I would be a bit worried about that secondary now, but otherwise, they have as good a shot as any. And you're right, I think it's time for Matt Schaub and company to prove they're not a flash in the pan.

And I don't think the Patriots will have a record setting offense, but they will score, and the defense should be improved. The D taking a step forward (please god) will once again determine how far the Pats go, not the offense so much. Still, one of my co-workers bet me the Dolphins would take the AFCE over the Pats, and I nearly fell over myself taking him up on it.

Shouldn't we be discussing the New York Jets and not your disgraceful sports polygamy? :D

Had a similar thought yesterday when I heard somebody on Sportscenter going on and on about Riley Cooper and how he had such a great practice yesterday, scoring a few TDs in the inter-squad stuff.

Is it really that big of a deal to torch a defense that was 25th in total D and 29th in passing d?

NE fans rightfully kiss the ground Tom Brady walks on, because I'm sure that they are fully aware that without him they are pretty much the Jags.

That's overstating it a bit. It's more helpful to look at NE's defense last year as a 1st half/2nd half unit. Unless getting to the AFC Championship game is something Brady can do by himself. The acquisition of Talib had a huge trickle down effect - McCourty was able to shift to Safety where he's much better. Anyway, I'm obviously biased, but the Jags they are not. I'm excited about our young defense progressing another year.

Guys like Chandler Jones, Hightower, Collins, and company are hopefully going to have a noticeable impact. Every team has holes, but we'll be in the hunt again. And the improved defense will be a reason why.

The Pats defense is ready to take the next step this year as long as Jones and Hightower progress.

We've had a solid run-stopping D-line for a while. If Jones and Ninkovich can put consistent pressure on the QB, they'll be good. Also they picked up a guy Armond Armstead who played in the CFL last year. He played at USC and was a consensus first round pick until he had some medical problems there. He's talented and could bring an extra element to the pass rush.

Mayo-Spikes-Hightower has the potential to best the best starting LB trio in the league. And we have Collins, Ninkovich, and Fletcher as solid backups.

The weakness the last few years has been the secondary but they looked like a completely different unit after we added Talib at the trade deadline.

With Talib for a full year, Dennard no longer being a rookie, and adding Adrian Wilson into the mix, the secondary has good potential. If they can gel and form a solid unit, the D could make the big step from bottom 3rd defense to top 15 or even top 10. They won't be the best in the league but if they can be a top 10/15 defense instead of 25th in the league, the Pats will be in great shape, even if the offense isn't as explosive as the last couple of years.

I'm getting excited. First preseason game is on friday!

In my defense, I've been a season ticket holder for 8 years. When I first moved here, I couldn't believe how CHEAP season tickets were. The team was bad, and I felt like getting in early would benefit me when they actually got good. It's hard not to care when you're that involved in a team. And it's actually a team that's easy to root for.

I've been a Jets fan my entire life, and that hasn't changed. But at times, they've made it almost impossible to be proud of being a fan. Sometimes, it's been downright embarrassing. It's not about losing - I can handle losing - it's just been all of the other stuff.

Regarding the Texans secondary, hopefully this will be a bounce back year. J Joseph got hurt last year right after they lost Cushing - and they were just never the same. With Brooks Reed and Cushing healthy, Merciless with a year under his belt, and JJ Watt, they should have a monster pass rush (even with losing Conor Barwin). That'll help the secondary - as will a healthy Joseph. If Joseph plays as he's been playing, and Ed Reed healthy this defense can be as dominant as they were 2 years ago. We'll see. One injury can change the entire complexion of a defense.

I know, I'm just busting your chops because I'm mean.

Truthfully, when I moved to LA, I started going to Clippers games. It was cheap, fun, and they were absolutely putrid. It also helped that they were the stepchild of LA, with the (gross) Lakers getting all the fanfare. Unfortunately it wasn't long enough for me to build deep loyalty toward them, and then they got good very quickly. The bandwagon shifted, and now I hate all these new Clippers fans and the games are no longer cheap. I still have a serious soft spot for some of their players, though.

Another confession: when I was a kid, I totally loved the Raiders. It was simply because I liked their logo and uniforms, the pirate guy was my favorite. So if LA ever gets the Raiders back (or any other team except the Chargers), I'd probably get season tickets. They're also horrible enough to be endearing.

They should, but they don't. It's tough being a bengals fan in NE, seeing all the bias and overconfidence. :p They've been a team you definitely have to respect, but they look like an 8-8 team to me this year.

Thanks for AJ Green by the way (Georgia). :)
