Bill's right though, Welker picked Talib on the play. He should have been penalized. Hooman did the same thing to a Denver receiver during the game and he was called for OPI. Welker should have been too.
Sour grapes all around. Nobody else is claiming that was an illegal hit. Not even the ESPN Patriot homers.

Sour grapes = you posting more on here to whine about the Patriots than posting about your team that's been golfing for the last month.

I don't think Welker was trying to injure Talib. But picking a player is a penalty. He should have been called. You can't call Hooman for OPI on a pick and then not call it on Welker 5 minutes later.

Why would Welker risk another concussion to go after Talib, that is just stupid. The league called it a legal block and that is what it was.

What the **** does "risking a concussion" have to do with it? If Welker was worried about "risking a concussion", he would have been sitting on the bench in warmup pants yesterday.

The league botched the call. It's a legal block if the guy making the block makes contact AFTER the WR has already received the pass (or had it hit his hands in this case since it was dropped).

Welker begins to make contact before the ball gets to the WR. Its a pretty close play, probably why they didn't call it, but they missed the call on this one.

For once, I'm going to defer to zioxide on this one. 10 years without a SB victory is considered a drought for New England. How many times have ya'll pulled out the "we made 2 AFC Championship games!" 20? 35? 150 times?

Besides, now we have more time to discuss all the dick debacles going on with the Jets since the season ended. ;)

You talk like making the AFC title game is some rarified feat. How hard can it be when Mark Sanchez did it, twice? :D

I'd rather my tight end shoot his load rather than people. :D

Contact looks to be simultaneous. Plus how many times have the Pats done that exact play? Is Belichick going to tell his team not do do it anymore?

Duh-dunt....duh-dunt...WILLLLLLLLSSSSSSSSONNNNN!!!!!!

I love how Denver fans are underestimating Seattle's defense ;)

They don't know, for the most part, what a tough defense is but they will know in less than two weeks.

My fellow Niners fans were beating their chests last year with the explosive offense, Kap's running and passing, etc. but the under the radar Ravens shut us down. Many didn't think they were the best team in AFC, or even their division for that matter.

A decade earlier we all were here ready to coronate Jerry Rice on his 4th Super Bowl and with Rich Gannon throwing and Tim Brown on the other side, but we got shut down by the Buccaneers of all teams. And I am sure people in the midwest, south, and east coast have had great offensive teams head to the Super Bowl only to end up eating a plate of crow when a defense shut them down.

Defense wins championships. Seattle by a touchdown!

The reason behind Sherman's rant to Erin Andrews :

Sherman has been upset with Crabtree since last summer. Both attended Arizona star receiver Larry Fitzgerald’s charity event. While there, Sherman went to shake Crabtree’s hand, and Crabtree tried to start a fight, according to Sherman’s older brother, Branton.

“I’m going to make a play and embarrass him,” Richard Sherman vowed that day.

He has nothing but good things to say about Denver's weapons .

I would suggest they not trash talk Seattle before the Super Bowl. They feed off this stuff.

Contact was pretty close but it was a little early. But you can see where the complaint comes from, because if the contact is early, it's technically a penalty.

I don't see how any of the rest has anything to do with it. Teams make plays like that all the time, but if they make the pick while the pass is in the air, they should expect a penalty to be called. Like we saw, Hooman did the same thing and got called for the penalty. That's all Bill was saying.. he thought it was a pick play and should have been a penalty call.

I think Wilson, who hasn't had a very good year, folds under the pressure and the Broncos win by 10.

I'll take the opposite. It snows, and Peyton chokes in the snow like he always does. Sherman takes a pick-six back for a touchdown to end the game and win the Super Bowl ala Tracy Porter & the Saints a few years ago. :p

I think if this was anyone but Welker he would not have made a big deal about it. Belichick is pissed that Welker is going to the Superbowl and he is not. Plus had Welker done that exact play while on the Patriots he would be praised by Belichick. To call it the worst play he has ever seen is a stretch.

On a related note how bad are the Patriots with Talib not in the game.

No, Bill said a little bit more than that. I dare say, if that is "one of the worst plays" he has seen, then he hasn't seen all that much.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick called Wes Welker's collision Sunday with New England cornerback Aqib Talib "one of the worst plays I've seen," a sharp critique of the actions of one of his former stars.

Well that's a little bit over the top.

I still think the NFL needs to readdress guys diving at knees like that. It's a cowardly play. That's probably why Bill was pissed.

Umm...didn't Belichick coaches kinda teach that to him ?

Diving at the knees to tackle or block is taught to all players by all 32 teams. Technically it's still a "routine" football play.

That said, I'd like to see them get rid of hitting like that. Way too many guys have had their knees blown out the past few years because of this. It's gotten worse as the NFL has told guys to avoid the head so now they just dive low.

It's a cowardly play. Guys hit like that because it will bring the guy down and the guy doing the hitting won't get hurt, but it completely disregards the health of the guy getting it. Deliberately diving into a players knees is illegal in other sports like hockey because it's extremely dangerous. Football should do the same and the NFL should revisit this in the offseason and define a specific area on the body for tackling. You should be squaring up and hitting a guy between the shoulders and the thighs. They got the banning head shots right, but they should be doing the same with diving into the knees if they actually care about player safety.

Obviously in a high speed contact sport you'll never get rid of all hits like that, but deliberately diving into a guys knees should be a penalty just like a deliberate head shot.

Interesting factoid: in their 38 seasons, the Seattle Seahawks have played 53 games against the Denver Broncos (excluding pre-season). In their one post-season matchup in 1983, Seattle defeated Denver in a noisy Kingdome. This is a bit unusual for SB contenders, to have this much history in common.

Denver will finish their 54th season with their 54th meeting with Seattle.

I'm a huge football fan but I don't ever want to hear anything Erin Andrews, or Pam Oliver, for that matter, have to say. It's bad enough I have to listen to the boobs in the broadcast booth.

Thankfully they're rarely asked to do analysis. Then again, the guys in the booth rarely contribute any sterling insights. Although Pam Oliver getting nailed with a football is still one of the funniest things I've seen, because I'm a terrible, terrible person. :D

Oh, you have the sound on on the TV? I usually listen to the radio, though it gets frustrating as hell, because they are very rarely close to in sync. In this last game, the radio was about nine seconds ahead of the TV, so every play was almost like watching a replay. Back when I could find commercial-free SB wild feeds on the C-Band satellite, it was always fun to watch the Spanish-language one :D

Unless you listen to the national syndicated feed football on the radio is worthless. All the local announcers are huge homers and can't keep their traps focused on the game.

Well, I disagree. The hometown broadcasters offer better insight, I think, than the dry, neutral national broadcasters. And some of those guys, I just cannot stand them.

I agree. I really like the announcers on 850 KOA that call the Broncos game.

Yes speaking of tight ends...... the season is ending just in time so we can focus on a certain gang banger's trial, who may now be on the hook for leisurely murdering 3 people while he wasn't catching passes from Brady

No matter the reason, he still made himself look like an a**hole.

I would also suggest they don't trash talk either. They only won by 1 score and they were facing a team that doesn't have half of the weapons Denver does. And that was with bad turnovers by SF.

Well that's a little bit over the top.

Maybe I need to see that in super, super, super, slo-mo, but it looks like their upper bodies hit each other (could have been a pick play, or they could have collided in the middle of his crossing route). To say that he's diving at the knees, and it's cowardly, is just as dramatic as Bill saying that's the worst play he's ever seen.....I'm just not seeing it.

No offense, but you seem to think that every time a Patriot gets hurt, it's because of a dirty play. Just because he's hurt, doesn't mean it was on purpose.

I have a hard time believing that if it wasn't Welker, Bill B. wouldn't have had the same reaction. Doesn't he have issues with holding grudges? :D

That is still awesome to watch. I'll also tune in just to see what a hot mess she looks like every week. :p
