Superb defending from Everton and, despite needing a striker, they fashioned a nice goal as well. Barkley dithered far too much in possession and Everton had a tendency to lose the ball when attacking, though they also had a few good spells of possession as well.

Chelsea created a few good chances but they were always attacking straight up the middle and Everton were prepared for them. Luiz's yellowcard was so cynical - he may have been in Everton's half but I think he was the last man and had he not fouled Osman (?) the Everton man would have been 1v1 with Cech.

Great result for Everton and Martinez.

A solid point for Jaffa's boys today.

The curious case of veteran strikers and Chelsea FC.

Oh well...Arsenal stay top until Monday

Just finished here.

Ajax 2 vs PEC Zwolle 1

Well a very lucky Ajax wins from PEC Zwolle, Ajax goals were both down to deflections, and PEC Zwolle was never out of it.

I watched the match via the TV but with the sound off, as my granddaughter wanted to listen to Ariana Grande's Yours Truly over and over again.:D

Bale scores but Madrid shambolic. Lopez their saviour.

Again football violence in the amateur game, this time a mass fight with players supporters and officals. The police were on the scene in force and at least one person was arrested. This is also very worrying turn of events, because this the 'A' Class the semi profs, there was always idea that there wasn't a real problem with violence.:(
The matchs between VV Hedel and BVV Den Bosch are always grudge affairs for the last 82 years, but mostly it remains at shouting and pushing, and maybe the odd punch, but this according to the news was a full scale battle.

In the Profs the violence was kept to the pitch in the Northern Derby

sc Heerenveen 4 FC Groningen 2

3 Red Cards and 7 yellow cards, plus there were off the ball incidents that the referee didnt see.

The KNVB are going to have a busy few days sorting this mess out.:(

Went to take in a Cosmos game last night. They're a long, long way from the glory days of Pelé and Chinaglia and the attendant huge crowds at Giants Stadium — try 6,000 or so in attendance at Hofstra University's cozy football stadium instead — but it's nice to see a "lower division" game where the fan has closer access to the action. Also, really nice to see a guy like Marcos Senna — a player I've long admired — running a match up close.

The quality of the football itself was nothing to write home about. Cosmos beat Minnesota United 1-0 on a late header. Not one minute after putting in a nice cross for the winning assist, the Cosmos' right back put in a two-footed, studs-up tackle right in front of our seats and was rightfully red carded.

Fascinating, Silencio - I keep meaning to take in a game when I travel, but circumstances have never lined one up for me as yet. So far the only football I've seen live in the US has been in Columbus Crew Stadium (all Crew matches save for that lovely 2-0 USA over Mexico match in 2009), apart from that drubbing by Belgium I watched in Cleveland this summer.

Lady Blackadder has actually been to Azteca and said it's terrifyingly steep.

But I have quite a few years' spectating left in me, so I'm hoping to travel to other MLS/USL/NASL venues in the future.

And of course, perhaps someday I'll make it to Anfield. It also goes without saying that, if my travels ever take me near Hull, I will be calling on Mr & Mrs Cake and perhaps even the KC stadium. :D

Ace - we'd get the best china out obviously. :) But who knows what the team would be at that point in time. Allam has been sounding off again about not being able to buy the stadium and do as he pleases with it, the suspicion is that his final goal is to have his rebadged team playing outside the city in his own ground.

Melton Tigers? Pah.

Columbus 2-1 Montreal

Some good results since firing our manager, two away wins under interim manager Brian Bliss. This time we managed to trip up first place Montreal in their own stadium with two assists by that man Higuain (the one that didn't smash his face on some rocks recently).

A playoff appearance is still quite unlikely but theoretically possible. Really though, the big question now is getting another manager. Bliss wants the job and if he keeps winning he may earn it.

It goes without saying that if you ever happen to be in my neck of the woods you're welcome at Blackadder manor, wherever that happens to be in the next few years. :D

Allam can (and may) do a lot of damage, but the team is bigger than he is and it will be around long after he's gone. I just hope this doesn't become a huge distraction for the club.

Really what Allam should be doing is preparing to gracefully re-enter the Championship with finances intact if relegation happens or, if the club hang in there this season, to undertake some sustainable spending to stay in the top division as long as possible. This global marketing quest of his is a sideshow.

What happened to Kone? Banging them in for Wigan, has hardly kicked a ball for Everton. Didn't even make the squad Saturday, presumably through injury?

Kone is injured, no return date. Martinez seemed to really rate him so I expect he'll be playing this year assuming he can get healthy.

The problem is that his antics are alienating a lot of the traditional fan base. There's a core of supporters who are feeling disenfranchised by the whole process, and increasingly detached from the club – in fact, a number of longstanding season pass holders have said they won't be renewing next season if the club is rebranded as Allam wishes.

We're not at all convinced by claims that the name change will make us Asia's most popular football club or bring in millions upon millions of pounds in merchandise sales - because it won't and it won't, and that's even if we're a Premier League club with all the global exposure that brings us. If we're relegated then we won't be an afterthought out there, and Allam will be left trying to pick up the pieces with a fanbase he's needlessly alienated.

I don't think changing the name is going to make you Asia's favourite team. The most popular teams out there are the clubs with historic successes, such as Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool, so unless you're going to change into a red strip and win trophies over the next 20 years, it's pointless!

If you're after taking Man U's fanbase away from them, how about a new sponsor?

Quite correct. Unfortunately, some people seem unable to get this salient point into their heads.

In terms of shifting millions of items of tiger-based tat in Asia, they can't even keep our club shop at the Stadium adequately stocked so I can't see how they're expecting to clothe every other person in the Far East in amber-hued polyester. It's an utter shambles from start to finish.

Maybe it's already started, you have won over Hello Kitty.:p

I agree completely. It's all about success on the pitch. You can take an already-successful club and market it to Asia, but you can't market a club to Asia in order to make it successful.

The alienation of the fans is natural, but quite distressing. Short of simply not showing up for games, there isn't much fans can do. I suppose if stadium attendances weaken enough it might force Allam to change his tune.

Young  Diving is one thing, but being so poor at it. :D

Cheers,
OW

I take that as a response to my previous post.

You're right.

Cheers

:)

edit: quite interested in Utd vs Leverkusen this week. Ahould be a good game!

Hmm. If we change our name to Hull O'Kitty then we've not only got Asia cracked but Ireland too, boosted by the strong contingent of Irish players already at the club.

Marketing. Gold.

you mean with a full name "Hull O'Kitty Tigers" ;)

i can see the tiger striped Hello Kitty gear on the horizon already
