Not bad for England seniors, glad to see Lambert score another goal.

Went to see England U21s play Moldova yesterday at the Madejski, it was actually a very entertaining match. Zaha looks quality, if at times more concerned about doing stepovers than actually getting the ball forward. Don't know how it was only 1-0 though, we were slicing through them like a knife through the proverbial butter for 90 minutes.

Comical stuff at the end though, Zaha missed a header from 2 yards out, Berahino missed the ball from 0.5 yards out, and Hughes had a shot headed off the line. Actually scrap that, Hughes managed to hit the defender on the head rather than him having any actual intention to head it.

Estonia and the Netherlands draw 2 apiece.

Another English colloquialism for Happybunny - coupon buster. :(

Thanks for the English lesson Jaffa, I think.

To tell the truth many people thought a draw was very lucky for us. From the outset the team was over confident, bordering on arrogance. A quick goal seem to just underline it, then Estland went off script. For long periods in the second half the Dutch team was without any plan, no new ideas, and what was very worrying nobody to take charge on the pitch.
The worrying fault line in Dutch football was put on display, the veteran players are getting on, and the young players are just to naive. This will change over time, but last night, it was there for all the world and his dog to see.:(

The press conference afterwards was worth watching, Louis van Gaal has a loathing for the press and they hate him right back.

Germany : Austria 3:0

sadly my boys were totally outplayed. the game in vienna was close and they could nearly etch out a draw but, this game was very different with germany dominating the pitch

Costa Rica 3-1 USA

Going to Costa Rica is always tricky (the horrible plastic pitch is a factor), and the USA have slipped up. I really thought we could pick up at least a draw there. Now beating Mexico next week becomes doubly important.

Watched the last 30 min of the game. They couldn't muster a shot. Closest they got to some offense turned into CRs 3rd goal on the counter. The only thing worse than the way they played was their jerseys. Ugly! Hope they have a better look for Brazil... Which also won't matter if they don't play better!

Will Michael Bradley be fit in time for the Mexico match? He was really missed last night.

I was hoping Ecuador would steal a point from Colombia last night. Alas, no. A cheap red and a nice James Rodriguez goal did the job.

This weekend the new rules for Amateur Football started in the Netherlands.

A player who receives a yellow card has to leave the pitch for ten minutes like ice hockey.

The KNVB now keeps a register of all incidents and clubs that are deemed to have to many incidents are given special attention, and if it continues disbarrment from the competition.

These rules are not for heighest class of amateurs the 'A' Klasse. This is because these are semi prof, and the sanctions against club and player are governed by FIFA rules.

That's interesting.

I heard a radio programme last year where they were discussing having a 'sin-bin' for football in the event of a yellow card being given like in rugby, but most people said it would be ineffective.
The main reason for this being that most teams could just shuffle their formation for ten minutes, possibly bringing a defensive midfielder into defence, a striker into midfield etc, and when the player comes back on he's actually refreshed and an advantage to the team.

I'm curious to see how it works out.

Will Michael Bradley be fit in time for the Mexico match? He was really missed last night.

Bradley is out with a sprained ankle.

With all due respect to Costa Rica, they did everything they could to destroy the match, from the moment team USA stepped off the plane. These are the hostile, negative matches that are so hard for an away team to win.

I feel pretty confident we will qualify for the WC, but less confident about beating Mexico without Bradley.

...

Ronaldo used to do that when he joined, not that Zaha is the Portuguese player's level. Talking of Portugal, the game v Northern Ireland was entertaining.

Cheers,

This is why i don't go out of my way to watch England matches. That was just dire.

Well the Netherlands are going to Brazil 2014. It was wasn't pretty but Andorra were beaten by RvP and ten other bodies.

Klinsi made it! Congrats! :D

Didn't know though that Mexico's struggling that hard atm, they always were my underdog favorites with Ghana.

I actually thought we were very sporting last night.

As soon as we'd had a single kick at the ball we'd very sportingly (and gentlemanly) immediately passed it back to the other chaps so they could have a go too.

It would have been quite selfish to have tried to keep hold of the ball, rush up to the other end and try and embarrass their goalkeeper by kicking it into the net. Gosh, that would never do, what would those people who travelled all the way from England to watch would have thought of such selfish behaviour?

For a minute I thought you were describing the Andorra Netherlands first half.:D

I'm thrilled that the US has qualified for the WC, but I'm just dumbfounded by how poor the Mexican side has been during qualifying. They should be a decent squad, but have struggled all year. For their sake, I hope they figure something out.
