Another match, another disappointing Newcastle performance. Just glad we could level after controlling possession for much of the game. Pardew looked confused much of the game--as he has much of the last 10 months. Seriously shocking.

You guys might as well accept reality. Ashley isn't going to fire Pardew.

Meanwhile Gerrard proving to be a liability for 'Pool. Sturridge badly missed. Skrtel still Skrtel.

good. that means he can finally join the HSV in winter ;)
Hehe.

Zinnbauer could be just the lucky surprise like Keller was/is for Schalke (even though people are constantly complaining about Keller).
Nice draw against Bayern (even egainst a weakend Bayern).

--------- Warning: women's WC info following ;) -------
Meanwhile Austria's women got second in their WC Quailification group (french group), but they are not under the 4 best 2nd placed teams, so they don't go to the play offs. But they are progressing. They needed 1 more point!

Switzerland has achieved a miracle! They were the first european team that qualified and it will be their first appearance at a World Cup ever! Also the second in their group (Iceland) is not under the playoff candidates! AND Denmark (which is usually a bit better and surprised at the Eurocup against France) got 3rd!

The Ukraine is a playoff candidate, while Russia got second in the German group, but couldn't make it to the playoffs. Ironically Ireland got 3rd in the group, while having played the best result/goal-dif. against Germany (almost won the first (very stormy, weatherwise) match against Germany, if GER hadn't scored two goals in the last minutes and Ireland lost the second match 0:2, lowest lost result a team had in the qualification against Germany).

In the european group we have now:
GER, Spain, Switzerland, SWE, NOR, ENG, FRA.
play-offs: Italy, Scotland, NED, Ukraine
(Scotland won in the Swedish group. If they win the play-offs it will be interesting to see them playing against their team-mates, that they know from the english league, Arsenal e.g., maybe that team GB wouldn't have been that bad of an idea ;)
To bad there is only one place left. I would like to see the Netherlands, because they improved so much recently and it should be fun to see them against world teams. Then Italy, though not the best team per se, would be intersting since they had given Germany a hard time at the last EuroCup.

@happybunny:
Twente has qualified for the 16/th final of the women's CL, unfortunately they will have to play against PSG, which will be a heavy task, from what I have read (and seen from the national teams). (Twente's 4th appearance).

not got cable ?

very fortunate here. NBCSPORTS has several premiere league matches on and beIN/english channel is even showing another League Championship match this a.m., Watford vs Bournemouth. and of course beIn/ESP will show all sorts of La Liga games.

I have NBC sports on direct tv but I am getting rid because it's $130/month at the end of the year. It's a bummer NBC doesn't have an app with pay service like NHL and nfl do on Apple TV.

I got to watch some of the arsenal game today at my hotel. Missed ozil and his goal. Guess arsene had a chat with him about poor playing performance this season so far.

it depends on how fast he can turn this team around, i suspect we will see more youngsters now

on a more hilarious note: according to reports Leeds has signed the Sturm Graz coach Darko Milanic for,as it is rumored, the highest transfer fee for a coach ever in the austrian bundesliga.

Which further proves english football has more sense than money: Sturm Graz has been playing absolute unwatchable, uneffective rubbish so far. Even worse than 4 years ago. The Sturm fans i know are actually happy he leaves.

And Leeds is paying a transfer fee.

Leicester currently turning over United. United will blame Clattenburg but me thinks they should look at their back 4 instead.

Evans hurt and Blackett suspended for the next game. Can they score enough goals to make up for their defense?

The Eredivisie is starting to take on a familiar look.

1 PSV
2 Ajax
3 PEC

PSV 4 - 0 SC Cambuur
SC Cambuur, who have had a good start to the season, finally came back to earth in Eindhoven.

Feyenoord 0 - 1 Ajax
Feyenoord had most of the possession, and played some half decent football, but finishing has been a major problem since Graziano Pellè departure to Southampton.

AZ 1 - 0 PEC
AZ have been in the news this week because they had two trainers come and go, but they still managed to win. PEC can feel some injustice they had a goal disallowed which seen later in the replay should have been given.

Don't think we deserved to lose, but at the end of the day it's only one stat that matters...
Murray has had two poor games now. Can't believe he took the penalty, never was a consistent penalty scorer for Palace.

You'll probably go on to do the double over us like last season.

In other news: does the Leicester game just prove how bad QPR are?

Columbus 1-0 New England

A crucial win against a hot team, that keeps us in the playoff race. Federico Higuain missed a penalty and then scored the winner off a freekick.

The Crew's big result managed to clear the stench remaining from Liverpool's disastrously bad defending. At this rate the Gaalacticos will surely have spent themselves straight back into their 'rightful' place in the champions league at Liverpool's expense. Rogers has got to sort the defense out fast.

EDIT: Been out of town at a wedding and posted before I saw the Man Utd and Man City-Chelski results. At least Liverpool isn't the only club putting up some dodgy performances. City and Chelsea look far stronger than everyone else though.

Is Moyes still at fault

Is LvG still a better manager than Moyes

Spent a boatload more money, gotten fewer points, shipped more goals, can't intimidate refs, and still way off the benchmark.

I was talking to a friend today about this and we both concluded that United have bought so many big-name players that they can't possibly fail to come good in the end. If they did it would be a huge black eye for LvG given the resources at his disposal - Moyes had a pittance to work with by comparison.

If they do make the top four it will surely be at Liverpool's expense.

Are you really asking that? Moyes showed nothing, he stumbled into victories then changed it, brought fear, was confidence sapping - defend like Jagielka FFS. The football being played is better, signs a credible plan exists, appears positive - compare demeanour in interviews. They were defeated because they lost their heads after two ridiculous decisions in one penalty and began defending like Arsenal - leaving themselves wide open. It happened to teams managed by Ferguson, including those with Vidic, Ferdinand, and Evra. SAF tended to nip it in the bud, that is the test for LvG.

Rodgers spunked a load, Moyes for Liverpool?

Cheers,
OW

Mostly rhetorical questions.

But personally LvG is yet to convince me.

Then again i wasn't convinced by Moyes either.

I agree with you - though, when the odd big loss happened under Ferg he rarely shipped any blame. Ditto LvG - so far. But had this exact result happened under Moyes you can be sure every armchair manager out there would be explaining how the failure was largely his fault.

Ferg and LvG have won things and thus have the luxury of not taking much blame in many cases when they do fail. In this case it probably was indeed more the players' fault - some are just not performing, others are still bedding in. But, if it keeps happening it will eventually stick to LvG himself.

A poor performance from Liverpool again, albeit in a cup match with a shuffled lineup. It's hard to get too excited abut the team at the moment, it will take time to see if the squad can coalesce into what fans hope it will become.

An epic shoot though, to be sure. I always really pity the losers in these, the outcome is pretty random.
