Mark Lawrenson theorised at half time that Chelsea's response to Zlatan's tackle was pre-orchestrated. Made it sound like the old British Lions '99' call.

People dislike Chelsea for a lot of reasons, but their pressurizing of officials is probably the best, clearest, most well-documented reason they deserve criticism (apart, perhaps, from the nature and origin of the club's wealth).

Mourinho spends every match pouring a stream of comments, complaints and abuse into the fourth official. Rui Faria, his right-hand stooge, is always prepared to start a fight with anyone and everyone - so long as there is a crowd of people between himself and the person he's shouting at. They always have a very clever striker up top (Drogba, Costa) who knows when to take a tumble, and Brave John Terry is always in the ear of the match official to make sure he makes the "right" decision.

Make no mistake, every club engages in these tactics at times. But nobody does it more often, more flagrantly or more successfully than Chelsea Football Club.

...and Goetze makes it seven.

Bayern still little bit in a slump in the first game but they have shaken it off in the games since then. The red card and penalty in the 3rd minute meant "game over" for shaktar unfortunately.

holding together a defense for 90 minutes against bayern is hard enough. Doing so with 10 players for 87 minutes while needing a goal ? next to impossible.

At least the UEFA sends their best refs to these games!

edit: wooosh! 2:2 :D

cracking game, nevertheless

Au voir Chelski

EPL needs to go learn how to defend again. And focus on playing football instead of hubris.

That's 100% Karma, that is. PSG were impressively resilient and Chelsea failed capitalize on their (unfair) advantage.

Ive had an eye on PSG's Blaise Matuidi ever since the world cup. He looks like a pretty sharp player.

That was a bloodbath, Bayern were totally merciless.

Fabregas goes missing again in another 'big' game/second half of season.

Only Hazard was interested in playing football.

The rest were too busy trying to influence the ref, fight with players and park the bus.

At least Mou is being honest that his team were terrible tonight.

Mourinho? No thanks. A vile team.

He brings results (most of the time), but absolutely nothing else.

David Luiz, a player I love to hate, was really up for it tonight against his old club. He and Costa had a real Battle Royale of the Dirty Players.

I just saw a vine of the Ibra red card, and someone pointed out that Brave John Terry actually steps on Oscar's head in his eagerness to confront the ref. That's a LOL.

i never liked david luiz, he is the most overrated player on the planet.

Right result, good to see the special one beaten.

I thought that PSG showed some real character, I thought that the red card was a bit harsh. It did however stop Chelsea from claiming that the ref was against them.

The Champions League is not a happy place for the teams of the EPL at this moment.

While criticizing Chelsea (and right so), something comes to my mind I heard lately.

I don't know, if you know that the media here is discussing the Premier League's new deal, where a middleclass club gets more money than Bayern. In a show about it, they also compared english player wages to other employees that have contracts with the clubs (like waitresses for the home stadium,...) and they said, that Chelsea is the only club that pays a "living wage", after massive protest, though. Other clubs pay less than you need to live from it.

Not that it is something important or so, but if you want to watch German 3rd league football:

March, 14th; 14 o'clock German time

(rank 11 vs 5th)
http://www.mdr.de/sport/ergebnisse/wettbewerb1232.html (click were it says "livestream" ;) )

same time, live: (3rd against 13th place) http://www.ndr.de/sport/live/index.html

6th vs 15th (same time, live)
http://www.sportschau.de/fussball/bundesliga3/videostreamlivestreamduisburggegenunterhaching100.html

Just some food, if you are in deep need. ;)

True, but I can't congratulate Abramovich. He would have done a greater service to mankind by not rapaciously accumulating his vast fortune in the first place.

Bayern make more money then all epl clubs except United

In revenue, perhaps...but the numbers look a lot different when you factor in the wealth of billionaire owners and the new TV deal. From the BBC:[my boldface]

This incredible sum of money means the club that finishes bottom of the Premier League in the 2016-17 season will pocket £99m.

The champions will earn more than £150m in prize money and that is before additional fees are paid to clubs who stage more TV matches than others.
In the past, there have been increased TV deals spent on better players, bigger transfer fees and higher wages. That is likely to happen again, at least to some extent, and may even help England's best clubs bridge the gap to the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona in the Champions League.
It also means that all 20 Premier League clubs could break into the top 30 richest clubs in the world - currently they all occupy a place in the top 40. Burnley are richer than Ajax.

EDIT: Sunderland made Aston Villa look like Barcelona today. Great goal by Giroud for Arsenal at the stroke of halftime.

EDIT2: Very professional performance form Arsenal today, typical late-season form. Man City's inexcusable loss completely takes the pressure off Chelsea. They can afford a few slips now. Burnley, on the other hand, might just suruvie the drop if they keep playing like that (and if Sunderland continue to play as badly as they are).

5pts clear and 2 games in hand...its practically a formality at this point. Shame that Mou has effectively been handed the title on a platter with no competition.

Guess its time for City to undergo a rebuild too. They effectively only have 3 decent players now; Aguero, Zabaleta and Silva. Once Aguero stopped scoring the goals pretty much dried up.

Is that it for Manuel then...

Villa and Burnley look set to escape.

I thought there was a fire drill with all the Sunderland fans walking out! Burnley getting the victory over Man City was something to see!

It will be a shame if Chelsea win because they have faded badly in the second half of the season; they will stumble across the line by default.

There is simply no excuse for them not to be winning major trophies every season.

Meanwhile be wary of the consequences of a rash tackle.

3 match ban for that. So it's official: body slamming an opponent is exactly half as bad as spitting on someone.

Rumours are saying 20yrs old Sterling is stalling on a new deal, wants LFC to pay him £150k/wk.

That's too much money. It wasn't that long ago that £100k a week was almost unheard of.

Personally, I think Europe should be going more the route of the NFL here in the US - heavily incentivized contracts where the player's wage is augmented with bonuses for each appearance, goal, assist etc etc. Want the equivalent of £150k a week? Fine - stay fit and go score 20 goals a season.

Just imagine how much harder players would try if each goal was worth £45,000, and each assist £25,000?

Update:: James will miss the international friendly matches against bahrain & kuwait on March 26 & 30, real madrid doctors confirmed he will be back on April 5

Columbus 2-0 Toronto

CCSC bring Toronto's bright start to a halt with a solid 2-0 win in Columbus. Toronto had a player sent off for a last-man foul just before halftime (tough call, it looked like he may got the ball). Our Iraqi-American midfielder Justin Meram continues his great from last season, scoring the opener and Kei Kamara put in the second, both from crosses. No Panenka for Jozy this time. ;)

EDIT: Chelsea drop points at Stamford Bridge again. They are still cruising towards the title thanks to Man City's choke, but once again they didn't look super convincing against an admittedly solid and determined Southampton.

Chelsea could have had Matic sent off, and as usual Costa could have had two yellows.

EDIT2: Terrible performance from Spurs at OT today - some would say "classic Spurs" but it's still a bit shocking given the talent in their squad. Man Utd look a lot better without their biggest summer signings out and Mata in, with Rooney (shockingly) played as an out-and-out striker. LvG's boys continue to cling to their top four spot. The match at Anfield will be huge.

Typical spurs. Flatter to deceive. Nullify Kane and you've all but won the match. Always relying on one player.

But credit to United for actually playing well in a match for once, they were easily the better team.
