Typical spurs. Flatter to deceive. Nullify Kane and you've all but won the match. Always relying on one player.

But credit to United for actually playing well in a match for once, they were easily the better team.

I was very pleased with Man U's performance, the best of the season so far. Which is good because they need to be ready for Liverpool next.

While criticizing Chelsea (and right so), something comes to my mind I heard lately.

I don't know, if you know that the media here is discussing the Premier League's new deal, where a middleclass club gets more money than Bayern. In a show about it, they also compared english player wages to other employees that have contracts with the clubs (like waitresses for the home stadium,...) and they said, that Chelsea is the only club that pays a "living wage", after massive protest, though. Other clubs pay less than you need to live from it.

...

Live where? Did they take account of the cost of living in different areas? There is also the cost of living in different leagues; agents and players know where the money is.

Lord Blackadder,

Giroud goal; about the build up - the finish off target and deflected in? No deflection re Phillips' strike for QPR - though not so much a team goal.:)

Heavily weighted bonus system; would any of the EPL players pass the ball?

Manchester United played well v Arsenal in the first half and when down to 10 - though you wouldn't know from the reports. Yesterday they took enough of their chances, didn't shoot themselves in the foot - Jones tried, and Arsenal sat back and were more organised - Spurs were? Interested to see whether Arsenal can take sitting back - Old Trafford/Etihad - to the Emirates; they tend to get carried away when the crowd gets going.

Cheers,
OW

Was it? I thought I thought it looked like a clean strike.

Maybe. but you wouldn't see any more sulks.

It was indeed a lovely clean strike, but it was going a couple of yards wide until an outstretched West Ham boot steered it in.

Hmm, I only saw it from one angle live, so I couldn't be sure. A defender slid in on him so I can see how it could be a deflected goal but it didn't seem like it at full speed.

I suppose you get extra credit when you're that handsome. Lady Blackadder is quite taken with him at the moment.

Smash and grab from 'Pool. 3-4-2-1 got sussed out in 1st half.

Sturridge not the same player pre-injury. Plays with fear and excessive thought.

Swansea out-worked Liverpool in the first half, and did a good job of negating Rogers' tactics. Liverpool didn't really come alive till well into the second half, but created enough chances to win the game.

It was the definition of a ground-out win. The defense looked shaky at times. On to OT. Sturridge: has not played a lot of matches this season. Possibly still a little behind the curve in terms of match fitness?

Bradford knocked out of the cup by Reading.

Yeah liverpool countered swansea's tactics in the second and they had no answer
Sturridge needs a goal

Arsenal are going to get knocked out. But they will go for it. Hopefully Monaco's defense struggles and we get an exciting match rather than a big fat bus-parking.

Somehow Henderson made it to the 2nd minute.

And Shelvey finished the match on the pitch, despite another trademark flailing arm move.

Well, that's about how everyone predicted it would end. Monaco have zero chance to win the Champions League with this squad - but Arsenal are knocked out due to that disastrous first leg performance at the Emirates.

Now it's all about consolidating their top four finish. They could certainly finish above Man City if they keep playing well.

"Gallant losers. Again." as the ITV commentator put it.

I'm not sure I wanted Arsenal to win the tie, for fear of having to play two legs against a decent team.

And now we can concentrate on The Double.

Too much tippy tappy. Why not shoot? you never know...lucky deflection or rebound. Kept trying to do intricate passing. Ramsey should have started, he plays well with Giroud. No width used just danced around the box till Monaco cleared. Koscielny, Giroud and Monreal were the standout performers. They rest were erratic and obvious.

Wanted The Arse to win (even though Wenger pisses me off). Because Monaco (especially the coach) were mouthing off a little too much, considering the fact that they're an awful awful tax dodging team.

Over to City

Arsene is one of the last managers who would get me angry. Especially given the rest of the cast in the premier league...

As for Monaco, they spent big and yet are struggling in a second-tier league, and their stadium has zero atmosphere. Plastic.

Kalou got himself into some trouble coming some 25 years too late, give or take.

Being in the heritage industry myself, I can't be happy with people taking chunks out of historic monuments will-nilly (though I'll admit I don't have a deep knowledge about the Eastside Gallery and how people in Germany feel about it).

But really, historic monument or not, Isn't it common sense that you don't chop pieces off of something that isn't yours???

Nah, you're totally right of course. In this case it's a) not even proven he touched anything - let alone hammering out big chunks (10cm deep!) of concrete for a TV-show (wasn't shown). Which brings me to b) I'd blame the TV guys (public broadcaster!) for setting this up in the first place. c) It is my understanding that this part of "The Wall" isn't even part of the original - which you can see in the background.

Not going to argue about this since it is 100% stupid, I just found it somewhat entertaining (and the way he hammers looks funny imo :)).

Btw. I have the highest regards for your profession!!! As an architect I tend to destroy stuff before I play around but other than that nothing but deep affection! :D Jk, I have to work with you guys a lot and they are about the most relaxed and mostly really knowledgeable sp?) folks. Nice profession! :)

It's a short stretch of wall on the Spree side of The Wall. Have got no idea where it came from, but as you say it does look as though it's been transplanted from elsewhere, and the graffiti thereon appears to be of no historical or artistic interest.

If he did damage the wall then the person who should be charged is whoever thought it was a good idea to supply him with a hammer and chisel.

The Guardian said:
Authorities in Berlin are reportedly set to inspect whether any damage was done following a complaint from Kani Alavi, the chairman of the Eastside Gallery, which owns the copyright to the graffiti on the wall.
What would Honecker have said?

Who would Ramsey have started ahead of? Coquelin didn't have his best game but I think the idea was that Arsenal were less likely to concede goals with him playing, and Ramsey would come on if were still in the game and chasing goals with half an hour to go. If that was the plan, it worked (bar the actual result). I also suspect that at present Ramsey's hamstring can't to be trusted to last 90 minutes.

Not sure I'd pick out those three players for particular praise. The team played well as a whole, particularly in the last thirty minutes of each half, and the only disappointments I can think of were that Cazorla was fairly anonymous and Özil (who worked his nuts off) didn't have his best passing boots on. Sanchez did okay despite being kicked off the park; the referee could have helped out with another yellow card or six. The only player who particularly worried me was Mertesacker, but that's been the case for a long time. Arsenal central defenders have a limited shelf life before the coaching team turns them into shadows of their younger selves!
