Wow, I really thought Alabama was going to destroy Ohio St, quite the opposite, Urban Meyer stuns Alabama.

I'm also shocked at how easily Oregon crushed Florida St. FSU, killed themselves with those turn-overs. They were still in the game until they kept fumbling, throwing interceptions.

While Ohio St., played great, I still think the ducks have this in hand, they'll beat Ohio St.

So glad OSU finally put down the ESPN sponsored conference.

I thought it was hilarious when Meyer turned around and tossed his headset.

Yeah, I can see the time off from coaching made him a more mellow individual :p

Kudos to Meyer, people were already talking about Alabama being the national championship, well before the first snap of yesterday's bowl games.

Wow, playoffs have already paid off. We would have had a BCS national championship game with FSU and alabama, which bama would probably win and we'd have to listen to another year of how SEC is the "best"

As a Michigan fan, I'm torn between my hatred of Ohio St winning and my love of SEC teams doing terribly, but it it really is hard to route against Ohio St, especially with their 3rd string qb.

the championship game should be good.

As a Bama fan, of course I'm disappointed about yesterday's game. We had our share of chances and blew them. And kudos to Ohio State for doing so well, especially with what they've had to contend with at the QB position.

I also watched the Rose Bowl. Oregon is a great team, and the NC should be a very good game. I think they showed that FSU got as far as they did largely because of who they played all year. They weren't about to pull out another come-from-behind win against a team like Oregon.

I also think that yesterday showed that the level of play at the top of the other power conferences is much better than many SEC fans were willing to admit. I really hope that the playoff expands to 8 teams - it would have been great to have had a team like TCU in the mix this year.

In short, the new playoff system shows that the SEC is just a bit overrated. Which has to upset all those SEC "homers" at ESPN....

I wouldn't say overrated as much as other conferences have improved. I think the past few years have shown that the SEC has been a powerhouse, their wins and national championships illustrate this. Last year and more so this year of shown that other conferences have indeed improved and the SEC has decreased.

All we heard all year was how the SEC West is the best any conference has ever been. SEC West in bowl games this year, 0-5.

This. Overrated would be if all those SEC teams that made it to the BCS title game lost half or most of those games. It's not like those games were given to those SEC teams. More recently, Oregon had their opportunity to win a title but they didn't.

If Alabama did win the playoff and eventually the National title, I bet people would still be calling the SEC overrated given their bowl record. People need to face the facts that in that 7 or 8 year run, the SEC put up some good teams for the title and they were the dominant conference.

Doncha just love college football for stuff like the Houston Pittsburgh game? 22 points in under 3 minutes late in the 4th, too bad the pros cannot deliver that kind of fun.

Do college football conferences have their stupid fangirls too? Why do people care about their "hated" conference doing badly?

he he he.. yes.

for the record, i don't really care what conference a team is from. but for awhile it was an undeniable truth that one conference was head and shoulders above the rest... well maybe not that much above...

i think the playing field is more or less level now. the problem lay n the fact that, imho, southerners are easily offended and very self conscious about being southerners. they/we got our feelings hurt when folks discredited our brand of FOOTBALL!

i root for Vandy and TN. but i also root for Stanford and Arizona State. I have lived in both places and still have an affinity for those teams.

some folks will say that the SEC is no big deal now. especially after we lost so many games this week, we were 6-5 combined(with FLA still left to play their game). but keep in mind that is 11 teams from the sec in bowl games.

i have no idea which conference sent the most teams to a bowl game. and really when you get down to it there are so many bowl games and so many half assed teams getting bids(keep in mind UT was 6-6) that it would be a moot point anyway.

GO DUCKS!

I'm a little surprised at the amount of support for Oregon over OSU and the apparent "no chance" most people are giving them.

Oregon has been beaten. So it's certainly not impossible. I think this is going to be closer than what people think.

I'm guilty of being in the no chance camp. Of course, I said the same thing when they faced Aabama. With that said, had Alabama beat OSU, I would have said the same thing - Oregon would have rolled over Alabama imo.

Oh I'm sorry, so these kids go to college to play football, get liberal arts degrees with C- grades, and a shot at the NFL. Most of them won't make the NFL but they're quite entertaining, their jerseys get sold, they fill the stadiums. So now if they graduate and don't get into the NFL, their liberal arts degree isn't worth anything, and they just played for a few years earning the NCAA millions while they get squat. I do some work pro bono too, but this is exploiting those athletes. Hard to believe that so many people are into college football and seem to think this is okay.

ummm.

You're clearly forgetting the following - most benefited by these kids that get scholarships:

College is paid for the full term their in College/University Full Time (especially for Football, BasketBall)
Endorsements (yes they get these too) that doesn't go against their scholarship.
Regular pro training equipment access along with regular free testing of substances and not to mention the TOP quality supplements that increase their physical fitness and performance that would cost MOST of us over $300US/mth to even get close to affording (this is supplement costs, no pro gym with 24/7 access).

So ... it's not all "slave" labour that you seem to make it out to be! They DO get quite a bit for their enjoyment to do what they LOVE to do!

I don't think the Alabama - OSU game was as close as the score indicated. They pretty much dominated Alabama on both sides of the ball from what I saw.

Oregon is good, but I don't think this game is going to resemble anything close to any game they've played this year. Now, I'm not saying they haven't played any defenses or anything like that, but I don't think they've faced a defensive line or offensive line of the caliber of Ohio State. Apparently their defensive backs are good too, because if I recall correctly Amari Cooper was pretty much shut down by a freshman CB.

OSU ran for like 200+ yards on Alabama. 200+. Do you think Oregon has the same caliber defense?

I really don't know what the outcome of this will be. But I think if Oregon wins it'll be very close. Maybe a Mariotta-orchestrated game winning drive for a field goal or something.

Actually Texas A&M and Arkansas won I believe, so not 0-5 but 2-5

FWIW the hype on the SEC West was all media fabrication
It is their job

The SEC West was never as good as hyped and the East was never as bad
