'Pool are screwed against Arsenal. As 'Arry Reknapp would say, "we're down to the bare bones." We might even be forced to start Benteke up front.

Btw, I'm not a C.Ronaldo "hater" by any means. He has his flaws but is foremost an amazing athlete (and entertainer if you want too) imho.

Saw yesterday an interview he did with some English bloke, also regarding his documentary/movie (which is supposed to be quite good/informative - showing the loneliness of such a person, the slimy managers left and right surrounding him and so on). I didn't know he had an 5yo son, raising him without a mother. I think the fact that the general public has no idea about the mother - and he made well known that they never will - shows that he is more than just a media-muppet.

So, Liverpool bring in a defender on loan (Steven Caulker) who recently served as a doormat for Liverpool's attackers in Southampton's 6-1 capitulation against Liverpool in the league cup. Given that, I'm not sure calling him "cover" is even literally true. For the first time in my life I find myself pleased to hear that Kolo Toure is fit to play.

The Ballon d'Or has sort of lost its meaning anymore. I don't care who wins it unless it is someone other than Messi/Ronaldo.

Perhaps he was simply increasing his prospects of a move to Anfield?

As for the Ballon D'Or, the problem is simply a lack of competition. Both of them are such a talent, it's inevitable one of them will win

Newcastle are still terrible but do manage to show up for the bigger games. They went for it but left open big giant holes at the back - holes so big even Rooney was able to lumber through them.

I do find it strange that pundits (Scholes included) are praising Man Utd's performance here. They just leaked three goals against one of the worst teams in the league.

although I haven't exactly heard what Scholes or anyone else has been saying, I believe the way United approached the game was like a breath of fresh air. A couple of days ago, United scoring 2 in the first half was actually unheard of!

but..all this is coming to an end. Since the game ended in a 3-3 draw, LvG will stick his boot up the players ass and aim for a 0-0 draw in the next game (against Liverpool?) :D

Yes, but it was Newcastle. This reminds me of an incident years ago when Chelsea fans got excited after watching a misfiring Andriy Shevchenko score a brace in a cup match...against Wycombe. Needless to say it was a false dawn.

Liverpool suffered a major injury crisis at precisely the wrong moment (is there ever a good moment?). I fully expect them to lose to both Arsenal and Man Utd. We have no defense and no attack. Unless Firmino brings a couple career performances or Benteke transforms overnight from a sack of potatoes into the deadly striker of yore, I can't see where the goals would come from.

He was praising the attacking performance, not the defending or the result. United actually played some good, attacking football for the first time in ages. Still, no excuse for the lapses in defending. United really is in a long term mess from the boardroom on down.

So next time they play defensively will he be praising them for only shipping 1 goal instead of 3?

It does seem like double standards really

I think LVG's attempts to bring decreased expectations in the Post-Ferg era make a lot of sense, but the credibility of his arguments are eroded when one looks at the budget he has been working with. The big Premier League sides as a whole have not bought well over the last couple seasons.

You're probably right, hard to say when not following that closely. If anything, one can observe that the team structures those players have to work in haven't been that great. Except probably Chelsea (unlike this season) who always appeared as a fully fledged team with all pulling on the same strings.

One thing about the wealthy league: now average players, since quite some time, have way above average paychecks when compared to other leagues - hence the difficulties to sell them to other clubs outside the Prem when the team needs to be resrtuctured. The established world-class players go to either RM or Barca at one point quite often.

Funny enough i had a feeling Pirlo would score when he came on.

We sat back too much when we didn't really need to. I really miss Cazorla and Coquelin.

Oh well...

Hopefully the energy level doesn't drop again at Stoke which i fear it will.

Wild game at Anfield. Firmino took my criticism to heart and showed his potential (can he sustain that?). I agree about Arsenal sitting back too deep when they would have been better served trying to control the game more. Liverpool's defense looked as terrible as ever except when going forward.

The result doesn't help either team much. Liverpool are probably the happier team because we produced some offense and went toe to toe with a title contender, but in terms of points neither side gained any ground on their rivals - and Leicester got a win.

If Caulker had scored I would have died on the spot.

The good news for Arsenal is that it is essentially as you were since NONE of the big boys won this week. The bad news is they failed to capitalise yet again despite having the tougher run of fixtures.

As for 'Pool the good news is Firminho seems to be finding his feet and Gegenpressing is slowly manifesting in the team. The bad news, these lot REALLY cannot defend.
