Decent 3-1 win by Man Utd to wrap up what has been a disappointing season. Hopefully a FA Cup win would provide some respite but I can't see it saving LVG's job.

If key players want to leave because of him and there are targeted players who won't join for the same reason, he doesn't stand a chance. But what is the situation? It will be tough for him anyway; it's a mix of things but he is the boss - wrath will be weighted towards him. Also, has a certain someone given an ultimatum?

Cheers,
OW

Liverpool could have scored three in the first half - the reds always start strong and I knew at halftime it was going to be hard going with the score at 1-0. I would have almost rather been 1-0 down at the half, because Sevilla are not a team to be intimidated and they were sure to come out strong in the second half.

Liverpool did well to get to the final, but they are still a work in progress. The defense has been very good at times but is still too inconsistent.

Given the lack of European football next season, Liverpool should be able to substantially improve on this season's league position.

But will they be able to attract the players without European football (or even hold onto the ones they have)?
I'm old enough to remember when Liverpool were a top, top European club. These days not so much.

Look at the expensive transfer flops happening at the very richest clubs these days (especially in England) - even the "top, top" clubs can struggle to find talent despite their wealth. I think having a top manager like Klopp counts nearly as much as a CL spot for attracting good players.

Liverpool is no longer a top-tier club in terms of competitive performance. But they are still a very rich club with a top-rated manager, so I think they should be able to improve the squad in this summer's transfer market. On top of that, they will be playing substantially fewer matches next season, which will give them an advantage in the league over the teams in European competition.

FA Cup final day.
Normally I'd support the underdog in Crystal Palace. But a Manchester United victory will see West Ham into the Europa leauge.
I like Pardew a lot and he got so close to giving us an FA cup win when he was our manager.
But Crystal Palace where in free fall for the last half of the season. They only stayed up due to some terrible sides beneath them and those early points.
So on paper you'd say an easy Manchester Utd win, but you never know.
Will it save their manager if they do win?

Palace just lacked quality in the final 3rd. Not helped by Zaha's desperation for headlines and consequent selfish play. And Bolasie disappearing from the match until the latter stages.

looks like JOe-zay to take over at united

Yes, I am reading these rumours.

Two things occur: The first is how completely classless, and totally tasteless, - how utterly unfair - and lacking in any kind of dignity or grace it is to break - or, more likely - leak - this story tonight. At the very least why not allow Mr van Gael a few minutes to enjoy - and savour - the undoubtedly bitter sweet triumph of bringing a trophy - the FA Cup - back to Old Trafford before ensuring that the attention of the football world will fall elsewhere.

This story could have waited until tomorrow, or Monday before it was formally unveiled. Or leaked. Or reported on. And still lost nothing in the telling.

Whoever has leaked this - and this is clearly a leak, possibly inspired by The Pompous One himself, - just shows a lack of generosity of spirit, and an inability to wish to share the stage, or limelight, or the merited applause which ought to be Mr van Gaal's reward for steering the FA Cup to Old Trafford.

My second comment is this: If United are foolish enough - and stupid enough - to employ this Narcissist, they deserve everything that comes to them as a consequence.

This is a man who leaves a trail of destruction and ill feeling behind him whenever he is fired (and he will be fired - amid much weeping, and gnashing of teeth). Yes, he will bring trophies, - at least, in his first year, but with such a negative focus, that the inevitable result will be akin to a scorched earth policy. Youngsters will not be recognised - let alone nurtured - and his arrogance and disdain for his colleagues will antagonise his peers.

(And, if one wants an alternative perspective, just contrast that dismal catalogue with the clear affection and respect with which Claudio Ranieri has been held by the teams and staff of wherever he worked.)

I am not an especial fan of Mr van Gaal, but this is a disgraceful way to treat the manager of a club that has just won the FA Cup.

But that is exactly the sort of arrogant, graceless, classless sort of action I would expect from the Pompous And Narcissistic One. He cannot abide headlines being about anyone but himself, and the misgivings and deep reservations of senior staff and 'elder statesmen' at Manchester United tell a very eloquent tale.

Of course. I am not disputing this.

But it doesn't have be done - or announced - tonight. That is just so lacking in manners, and dignity, and taste and courtesy, and culture. Ugh.

Oh i wouldn't expect 'class' from most clubs and even more so the media.

I agree with you but i can't say i'm even remotely surprised.
