Well, Saben certainly cemented his place in Alabama, and while I don't think he unseated Bryant, he's definitely one of the best coaches.

I think Lane Kiffin will have no problems finding a job as a HC next year either, my only hope is that he grew and matured as a coach, so the games he played at Tenn and USC are a thing of the past. He's done a great job as the offensive coordinator.

Just MHO, but, I think Coach Saban will surpass Coach Bryant if he stays there. And He will surely win more titles than him even if he goes else where.

I never really prognosticate on what a given team will do, there's just so many variables, I know a lot of the alabama fans are looking towards their next national championship and that's great but for me, what's he done already cemented him into my opinion as one of the best. I know a lot of folks hold Bryant up on a high pedestal.

I was never a big Nick Saban fan, but lately I have been changing my tune about him. He knows how to coach, by that I mean he knows how to get his players to make clean hard tackles and not to make to many penalties. I also like that he pulls a few surprises during the game, the pooch kickoff was excellent. ;)

No defense yesterday. Both defenses were just holding on for dear life hoping the other team would not score or turn the ball over. But amazing game - it was intense from beginning to end.

That was the game, I liked the thought process behind it. He wasn't trying to lose the national championship, but rather he was trying to win it.

All too often I see coaches playing it safe, not wanting to lose a given game. He made a gutsy call that not only energized his team but also put 7 points on the board.

Even though the glow from last night's win hasn't faded, I'm thinking about next season. Bama will be going with its fourth QB in four years, presumably Blake Barnett. He's highly rated, but doesn't have any experience at the college level. I'm also puzzled about what happened during his brief hospitalization in October. At the time, he said that he had multiple blood transfusions, which would be odd for a presumably-healthy young man. I'm hoping that he's OK.

I'm already looking towards the opener against USC! Next year is going to be interesting because like you said, its another QB Alabama and Nick Saban have to get acclimated to their system. Their defense is going to be re-tooled and will always be competitive but how good will they be? Have to do a little reading on what Alabama currently has and possible recruits.

Also, going to look carefully at what Kirby Smart and Georgia do. Looks like Kirby Smart wants to build an Alabama-lite over there in Athens.

About 8 months to go!

Now comes the rumors that [insert NFL team name] wants to Saban as their coach. I think at this point that won't happen. He's getting older, he has a nice system in Alabama, and he does want to pass Bryant on the number of national championships won.

I'd be shocked if Saban left for an NFL coaching position. I think that the satisfaction and pride he says he gets from building and working with teams at Alabama are genuine. I agree that he'd like to retire having beaten or at least tied Bryant's NC record, which would take one or two more championships, respectively. That will be very difficult to accomplish given the level of competition these days, but Saban likes the challenge.

That's my point, he has an attainable goal in college football. He'd be basically starting over on a franchise that is in desperate need of fixing. While Saban has his roots in the NFL (being a defensive coordinator), he's clearly more attuned and gifted to succeed in college. While in time, he may very well achieve success in the NFL, he's already at the cusp of something great in college.

UCLA offered Lane Kiffin an OC job before the championship game. Really? Why even bother with the offer? You think Lane Kiffin would leave his job as OC on the best college team where he pretty much has his pick of the litter with regards to recruits to go to UCLA for the same job?

/smh.

Yeah, I think his plan is to stay with Alabama for at least another year and then try to find a head coaching position.

Agreed. He has no good reason to go to the NFL other than money, which he has enough of I suspect. Yes, it would be a challenge, but I don't think he'd enjoy working with NFL players as much as he does with college kids.

Saban's priorities are just different than that of a typical NFL coach. I'm sure mentoring and helping college athletes and their future gives him as much pride and joy as winning a national championship. In the NFL, the athletes only care about the money and their brand and if they're able to win a Super Bowl, great but most want the money and the lifestyle. Saban has no reason to deal with that and that's not a bad thing. Being a NFL coach is a totally different beast.

I like Saban. Seems a decent sort.

p.s. your avatar worries me. i hope the Rams don't go back to that hideous uniform. PLEASE keep the gold and blue. or go back to the white and blue.

Jonathan Allen staying at Alabama for his senior year. It will be nice that that d-line isn't totally dismantled, he should be one of, if not, the anchor on that line and help the transition.

Also returning are O.J. Howard and Reuben Foster. What seemed to be relatively big reloading year is turning out to be not so bad.

Nah! They need to go back to that uniform and drop the gold.

Is O.J. Howard definitely staying? I thought he hadn't decided. Hope he does, though. I'm sure he'll get used a lot more after his performance in the NC game.

That's what the reports are saying. I'm thinking he was told he was going to be late second-round, third round and decided that if he could build off his performance from the title game, it should help his stock tremendously. Now that Alabama is starting another QB with little to no experience, this might help O.J. if Lane Kiffin decides to use him as a security blanket. Add in O.J.s athletic ability at the TE spot, it could benefit him for the 2017 draft.

Well, we'll know for sure by tomorrow, which is the deadline for declaring. Meanwhile, Adam Griffith is also staying for another year.
