Alabama needs to just stick with one quarterback and go from there. Look at Ohio State last year... .If they screw around and keep switching then they're going to drop a game and wind up on the outside looking in.

I would say it worked well for Alabama last year! :D

I'm sure the QB position will be solidified by the 3rd or 4th game. If Jalen Hurts becomes the starter, it's going to be fun to watch Alabama have a mobile QB of their own terrorizing opponents' defense. After the last few years of mobile QB's gassing Alabama's defense, it'll be a nice change of pace especially since Alabama usually goes with the traditional pocket QB.

Week 1 is always the most exciting because you get these types of upsets and if you're a betting person that loves the underdog, good way to win some money!

Especially because the rankings week one are completely meaningless.
I know, but by the same token, I don't think anyone was expecting Houston to be Oklahoma.

I loved that field goal return for a TD play, UO had no idea what was going on and by the time they realized what was happening it was too late :D

Well, maybe except for Alabama being ranked #1. :)

Seriously, though, I don't think that USC was as bad nor Bama as good as the 52 to 6 final score would suggest. They made many mistakes that could cost them against strong opponents. But they have a pretty good foundation for a run at another NC if they can improve, stay focused, and avoid too many injuries.

I think what we saw was typical Alabama. Of course there are always improvements to be made (QB1 competition) but you either jump ahead of Alabama early or be prepared to play the game of your life. Once you allow a Saban-led defense to get comfortable, it's almost impossible to move the ball. How many times in the last 3 or 4 years have we seen an Alabama defense severely stunt an opponents offense whether its a regular season game, bowl or championship game? That's exactly what we saw Saturday. New squad and all it took was a quarter to figure out what they needed to do to shut down USC.

There are some who claim that this is the best defensive squad of the Saban era. But I thought I heard Saban say that the defense isn't as deep as last year's, making it harder to constantly rotate guys in and out. Maybe that's just him avoiding complacency. For the past few seasons, Bama has also had problems defending against long downfield passes—I hope that's improved this year.

It'll be fun to watch the offense develop, too. Ryan Kelly was a big loss, and the O-line has some work to do. And I hope that Saban picks a starting QB by the Ole Miss game in a couple of weeks. It takes time for a QB to get into a rhythm with his favored running and passing targets, and that's tougher to accomplish with rotations.

Well, this thread hasn't been very active. Anyway, still enjoying watching the season unfold. Looks like the Ole Miss curse is over for Alabama, though they almost lost again despite coming back from 24-3 to take a sizable fourth quarter lead. Bozeman receiving that fumble at the end was a huge play.

I wonder how far FSU will fall in the rankings after their 63-20 loss to Louisville.

Louisville DESTROYED FSU. Im hoping that they can do the exact same thing to Clemson! lmao

My irish are getting killed right now (I still don't know why the heck they have kept the coach this long, he is a moron). But spent the past 12 hours over at Williams Brice watching my current college. Glad the Gamecocks got the win!

If they fire him they will be paying three head coaches at the same time!

LOL, They needed to after last season ended. Need to end him at the end of this season and pick up a better coach (Can't be hard to get anyone better? Give him the couple mill and he will be happy lol)

Charlie got 16 million when he left. 6 upfront and 10 until Dec 2015.

Ever since Dee Milliner left Tuscaloosa, Alabama's secondary has been very mediocre against those hail mary type throws. It's so frustrating to see Alabama's secondary continuously lose those jump ball matchups or give up the big play. In the two losses against Ole Miss, you take away those toss ups, 'Bama likely wins. The front 7 is always potent but the secondary just hasn't had the talent since Dee Milliner.

I agree that they continue to have problems defending against the deep ball. Much of the time, it's not as if there's huge separation between the players. It's often a matter of the Bama defender not doing what it takes to prevent his opponent from making a catch while avoiding a pass interference call.

Last year with the tip ball catch and run for TD, it looked like the DB's were trying to lay down the big hit instead of playing the ball and last night with the catch by Engram (I think?), the DB was all over the receiver but didn't play the ball or just wasn't in position to jar the ball loose. When that happened, I know Saban was on the sideline cursing to himself asking how they keep losing those situations.

I'm still having a hard time with the FSU/Louisville game. Can't believe that FSU just got beat down the way they did.

ROLL TIDE

Gives me hope that the Hurricanes have a chance to top FSU in October! Mark Richt has done an amazing job with the program in his first year. I thought it was going to take at least two to get his recruiting in order but so far so good!

All about the []_[]!

Not taking anything away from Lousiville, I think FSU wasn't as good as everything thought they were. Louisville did demolish them though, it will be interesting to see FSU bounces back from such a beat down

Utah with a thrilling come from behind victory against USC tonight. Our offense is starting to gel, perhaps this is the year we make (and perhaps win) the CCG?

The south looks winnable this year, and we always match up very well with Stanford!
