So it looks like Christian McCaffrey skips bowl game, as does LSU's Fournette. Looks like some of the Amateurs don't want to risk injury and risking millions of dollars. I can't say that I blame them and I think this will be the wave of the future.

Last year, Jaylon Smith a probable top 5 pick suffered a major knee injury and he dropped to the second round. Given how rookie contracts are structured, he did lose a lot of money and I can't help but think that was on McCaffrey's mind.

I'm torn on this one. I'm all in favor of a guy trying to protect his future earnings, but the logic doesn't make sense to me. McCaffery's reason seems to be that he doesn't want to get injured in a meaningless Sun Bowl , but the season finale against Rice was possibly even more meaningless and he had over 30 touches in that game.

I think you're right about this becoming more of a thing going forward, but I think guys are overestimating the risk. You can get a catastrophic injury anytime. I get if you've been hobbled all year like Fournette (or maybe I'm biased being a Tiger fan), but sitting to avoid injury just seems like overkill.

In any event, his teammates support it and the NFL doesn't seem to care if guys voluntarily sit (I find that...interesting also), so that'll be good enough for me.

Wow, watching the Arkansas vs Virginia Tech game, I thought it was over at half. I couldn't believe the 2nd half collapse of Arkansas. The razorbacks looked like two different teams, and coincidently, so didn't the Hokies. I saw a graphic in the game that showed that the Hokies were a better 2nd half team and also how Arkansas collapsed in the second half.

Good game to watch :D

Was a great game to watch the meltdown of Arkansas and Bielema. Nothing sweeter than seeing him sink after all his trash talking. Looks like he's put on 100+ since leaving Wisconsin. Toss up tonight on who I hate less. I can't stand any Florida teams but they are playing that team up north. Looks like a Florida team it is.

Too bad LSU couldn't play this well during the season. LSU defense completely feasting on Lamar Jackson.
I think its that people have figured out some of Louisville (and Jackson's) weakness. Not taking anything away from LSU, but Louisville at the end of the season looked like a different team then when they beat FSU

Would have liked to have seen a stronger outing by Bama, but I will take the win. I am wondering if the long time off had anything to do with it.

What a close game from Michigan. Ugh.

Referring the the mental aspect(penalties)? Or their offensive execution?

All of the above. They looked and felt really slow to. I know the running back ended up picking up quite a few yards, but overall they looked rusty. That is what I saw.
My #2 favorite team is whoever is playing UW. But I must say, their defense is legit. They did play the #4 team.

Even the defense looked a little slow today. For most of the season they seemed to get better in the second half, however this week, they looked a little off. Glad to see them win, but whoever they play next, they really need to bring their game.

This was one of the better defensive performances from my Tigers, but we've had some really good ones, particularly Bama (even though we lost) and Ole Miss. This wasn't out of the norm for LSU. The talent has always been there.

Like @maflynn, I don't want to take anything away from LSU's performance, but Petrino needs to be ashamed of himself. He's supposed to be an offensive guru and every offensive dude not named Lamar Jackson was awful today. The blocking was pathetic and receivers looked like they had oven mitts on. Petrino has the Heisman trophy winner and his offense still looked like garbage...he needs to give Louisville some money back for what he fielded today.

Geaux Tigers!

I hope every team that has a player do this every year loses. You are there for the team right now, not for yourself.

I was hoping for another Alabama/Clemson title game and we're going to get it! I hope it was as epic as last year's title game. January 9th can come soon enough!

I actually wasn't, though it will be a good game and while Ala has a touchdown edge with the vegas playmakers, I do think Clemson has the ability and motivation to beat them.

Absolutely. Well before yesterday's game, I thought Alabama would be the clear favourite if they did play Clemson again, but if you were to compare both teams, Clemson played a lot better and a complete game of football against a better Ohio State team than Alabama did against Washington. Alabama still has their defense but IMO their offense doesn't inspire much confidence with Hurts' inexperience in comparison when they had a traditional offense with Coker at QB last year.

If Clemson can completely shut down Hurts like they did Barrett, I think it's Clemson that squeaks by this time around because of their offense especially with Cain and Williams at WR.

Only way they will feel bad about not playing is if the team loses.
I totally understand why they do it and to be honest, it makes too much sense. They're risking millions of dollars for a meaningless game. I enjoy bowl games don't get me wrong, and the cotton bowl, rose bowl, and the like are special but the sun bowl???

Maybe. I don't know. I'm not sure a guilt trip is going to change these guys' mind. I think the only thing that would work is if the NFL were opposed to guys sitting out games, but the league doesn't care. They know if they flash enough cash they'll get these guys to play even if they are hurt. And unfortunately they're right.

I understand their desire to protect their future earning potential, but where do they draw the line? McCaffrey had a heavy work load in an equally meaningless game against Rice to end the season and he could have easily gotten hurt there. Actually, he could make the argument that every game after the loss to Washington State was meaningless since they were out of the PAC12 race at that point. He could have just shut it down in October.

I'm not against guys protecting themselves but I think skipping games is overkill. For every Jaylon Smith story we hear there are hundreds of guys that play in their bowls and don't get hurt.

They're getting free educations to play, so play the whole season.
